As DJ Fergie Ferg pointed out in an email last week, we’ve been longtime fans of his work and, yet, after all of this time we’ve failed to truly link up on a project. Well, he sure knows how to make an entrance because I don’t think I could hand pick better songs than the ones posted below. And how could we resist turning these two tracks into a FNT mini-mixtape. I’m a sucker for Beach Boys and I’m a sucker for old school Jay Z, so naturally “Good Vibrizzos” is my favorite cut.

Events, Review | Global Dance Festival Recap

The other weekend, Global Dance Festival continued its reign as one of the most epic festivals in Colorado. Thursday featured an eclectic mix of big names, from Kid Cudi’s greened-out stage setup to our very own Sam Adams, bringing in a ratio that could get Stephen Hawking laid. Empire of the Sun played a sick set with some very interesting costumes. Friday gave us the chance to interview Nero after an awe-inspiring set, dropping absolute bombs on the unprepared Red Rocks crowd (peep the FNT hats we got signed here)…and of course Skrillex’s got the audience going absolutely crazy….

This week FNT resident DJ, DJ JurisDoc, was uninspired by the lastest releases in EDM so he held off on creating his weekly DJ Set. Even so, we managed to squeeze an EPIC bootleg out of him which feautures an eloquent mash of Benny Benassi, Axis One, and vocals from the one and only C Breezy. Folks I gotta tell you, if there’s one thing that clogs that FNT gmail account more than anything, its gotta be loads and loads of second rate mashups. Well tediously browsing through each and every one is all worth when I find hidden gems like this latest cut from DJ i6 straight off of his upcoming mixtape Structure and Flow which drops September 6th.

Electro | Madonna – Like A Prayer (Viceroy + Alkamyme Remix)

In honor of Madonna’s birthday, Viceroy teamed up with Alkamyme to drop this remix of “Like A Prayer”. Similar to his previous features on FNT, this tune is characterized by funky synths and a bassline that reinforces the dance-ability of Madonna’s hit. Don’t be scared, hop in this time machine and enjoy the ride as it brings you back a couple decades.

Hip-Hop | Kenton Dunson – Top of the World Feat. Passion Pit

The talented Hip Hop up and comer, Kenton Dunson, who brought us the impressive project, Creative Destruction 2, has given FNT the exclusive premiere of his latest song “Top of the World,” which samples Passion Pit’s “The Reeling.” The way he flipped “The Reeling” is really something else and takes advantage of the Passion Pit’s unique synths highlighted in the beginning of the original. “Top of the World” is definitely a track to cruise around town to… windows down.
“The internet is the proving to be the most powerful tool for upcoming artists like myself. You can really see the world and when that world is moved by your art…it’s an amazing feeling. So I based the song partially from that but also wanted to release one for those of us who are not only ambitious, but actually act on it and eventually succeed. Once you achieve your goal, don’t look back…don’t come down! That’s the whole theme of “Top of the World”.” – Kenton Dunson
