Phoenix - Trying To Be Cool (A-Trak Remix)
While the Tiesto supported Chainsmokers remix may remain a favorite here at FNT headquarters, wherever that is, A-trak’s take on Phoenix’s recent single “Trying To Be Cool” is worthy of your time and of course the free download. A-trak keeps much of the same indie vibe of the original, letting Thomas Mars’ vocals shine, while adding soothing synths and funky breakdown that switches up the tempo and feel of the track. This is a summer-dripped remix from A-trak and he is giving it out for free, so do not hesitate to hit that free download button.

Electro | B.Dolla – Headhunter

bdolla headhunter

B.Dolla has always been a favorite in my books because of his “do-what-I-like” attitude. Herbie Hancock made a prolific impact on Dolla’s career and who he his musically, so he decided to take some of that passion and re-work it in to his music. Never mind that the young EDM fans of today probably don’t know the 1960s-age jazz pianist, Dolla thought, I’ll do what I want to do.

“Headhunter” is probably the exact opposite of what you’d expect out of an original track sampling Herbie Hancock. Hard hitting and trap infused, B.Dolla’s newest offering is most definitely one to be bumped at summer gatherings and a song that I can see thousands of fans wildin’ out to at a festival or two.

Last, slightly off-topic, but the album art for “Headhunter” is pretty stunning. That’s a great element to have going for you when submitting music. The art is the first thing bloggers see, and when it’s done professionally I’ll assume the music is just as professional!

Chill, Hip-Hop | Radical Something – Cheap Drink

cheap drink radical seomthing

As it has probably become apparent the California-trio, Radical Something, is a favorite of mine. It’s been a while since we’ve had any new beach-y material, however, back like they never left RadSo unleashed, “Cheap Drink”. Josh Cocktail croons on the hook, highlighting a problem that I’m sure many of you have struggled with in the hot and expensive summer bar scene, followed by two verses from Loggy and an electro-reggae laced instrumental produced by Big Red.

The guys have been on a roll this summer, seeming to thrive in their natural sunny element. Since Radical Something is taking a break from touring for the majority of the hot and steamy months, I’m sure you’ll be seeing plenty more new music from them very soon.

If you enjoy the song, I’d recommend supporting Radical Something on iTunes here, otherwise scoop the free download above and vibe out!

Preview, Progressive House | Marcus Schossow – Reverie (Preview)

Posted by on July 3, 2013

Marcus Schossow - ReverieAxtone is known for releasing a select few quality tracks in each year that will have a lasting impact on the sound of that year. This year we have seen the impact of “Wakanda” and the hardstyle revival in mainstream house music, plus Axwell’s return to releases with his own “Center Of The Universe“. Now a staple of Axwell’s sets, “Reverie” from Swede Marcus Schossow will finally get its final release with a remix from Michael Calfan coming later in the summer. The track combines an ominous, spacey build with a hard-hitting, churning drop that should make this a summer favorite. Watch for this on July 12th.

Chill, Compilation, Indie | Teen Daze – Lost Songs (30 track compilation)

I am well aware that progressive house has become generic, overplayed, mainstream, and incredibly formulaic (also stupid and fat), but I still love it. With that said, I also really enjoy slower, chill sounds. Songs that you can play while knitting a sweater for your grandmother or even just while you stand at the stove stirring that damn macaroni and cheese for 8 minutes. Songs like these are very different from house. They also aren’t as mass produced and oversaturated as house is. It is for these reasons that I was very pleased to find Fraser Valley native, Teen Daze giving away 30 of his unfinished, or “lost” songs for free. I have listened to all 30 and, for the most part, they’re all great. I will say though, I’d go with “Lost Songs 3” as my favorite compilation. The download links to the three compilations are below as well as arguably the top songs from each respective pack on Soundcloud, just to give you a taste. If the redundancy of whatever your preferred genre provides has got you looking for a breath of fresh air then this is it.

Progressive House | Paris Blohm feat. Matt Morris – Miracle (Original Mix)

Paris Blohm is a producer that I only first heard of a few months ago but ever since I did I’ve been impressed with.  His latest original “Miracle” features the superb vocals of Matt Morris and, while being rather short, still provides a great listen. “Presence”, the first song of his I heard is still my favorite but this remains an impressive outing by the young LA based up and comer.
