Hip-Hop, Reggae | McWorm – “Be Free” and “The Intro” | Chill Rap
Posted by BIGLIFE on February 10, 2011

Here’s an interesting story covered by CBS News in DC about the rapper featured in this post who balances his hip hop career with a passion for politics. It even touches upon the new nature of the music industry, a topic that our FNTers know all too well. Check the video if you have some free time. Otherwise skip right ahead to the soulful and chill rap tracks below. I’m really digging Cisco’s vibe, it’s a welcomed change of pace in my music library. Definitely give these an ear. I can’t decide which one I like more, so sound off in the comments section or chatbox. Stay tuned to Skillful Methods to catch the EP release in March.

Hip-Hop | Shwayze and Cisco Adler – “The W’s” EP | FEEL GOOD MUSIC
Posted by BIGLIFE on February 2, 2011

I absolutely love this EP – it’s a much needed change of pace for my iTunes library. No surprises here, this self proclaimed stoner/feel good music project definitely lives up to its album stamp and banana beat record production, but what would you expect from two California natives whose careers are adorned with some classic laid-back hits? Here’s what the official website reports:
“The W’s is taking it back to our first record, with all the tools and the knowledge of the future mixed with better weed and hotter women,” said rapper Shwayze.
The new music marks a return to the California stoner hop that made their first album SHWAYZE (#8 debut on Billboard Top 200) strike a generational chord. The laid back beats and sing-a-long melodies provided by producer/singer Cisco Adler are the perfect backdrop for Shwayze’s lazy day flow.

Hip-Hop | Fortune Family – Hasta La Vista (Feat. OnCue)
Posted by GMONEY on January 27, 2011
I have to be honest here, Fortune Family has really been hit or miss for me in the past, but based off this first single on of their upcoming EP, “Paradox,” they may just have some big things in store. Watch out for the mixtape, which drops on February 1st, and check out their facebook for more details.
Dubstep, Electro, Hip-Hop | BANGER | Paper Diamond’s “Power” Remix
Posted by GMONEY on January 21, 2011

Paper Diamond’s remix of Kanye West’s “Power” is the sort of weekend starter us FNT-ers need (especially as I head back to NYC) . Alex B, the madman behind “Paper Diamond,” is a seasoned producer who hails from Colorado. Alex’s raw energy shines through this remix, as the bass hits hard.
Paper Diamond’s debut EP, Levitate, will drop for free on January 25th via Pretty Lights Music and Elm&Oak Records. I can’t get over how good this track is. Up until the EP drops, this song will be stuck on repeat (only four days left). For more information, check out his Facebook.

BONUS: Back in September, Magnetic Man, the UK dubstep trio comprised of Skream, Artwork and Benga, released “Getting Nowhere,” an impressive track featuring John Legend. Skream has now remixed the track and given it an even better sound.
Reggae | Collie Buddz EP “Playback” | REGGAE
Posted by BIGLIFE on January 20, 2011

Today I learned something new; maybe three out of hundreds of thousands of people actually read what write in my posts. Like I could probably go on about how Jewcebox crushes guys every weekend and never get called out for it. People would just assume my blurb was about the incredible music I post and download away. It’s ridiculous I feel like a used and abused scribe. I’ve been talking about this EP for months and yet I still received at least twenty notifications today that it dropped and that I needed to post it asap. No shit, I’ve been watching the counter on the Collie Buddz homepage for a month now. Well I’ve finally listened to it from head to toe and can officially rank the tracks (subject to change later). So without further adieu, I present you with my favorite EP of 2011. All the tracks are below but if you want to download the zip file go to the Collie Buddz Official Website.

Albums, Electro, Mashups | ELECTRO | Edward Sharpe, M.I.A., and Aoki
Posted by GMONEY on January 14, 2011
NYU students love indie music. At least one track related to the genre is bound to pop up on any given playlist, during the occasional apartment party. I first heard Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroe’s song, “Home,” while out at one of said parties, a few months back. Although I typically shy away from bands such as this, the track proved otherwise. DJ Whole-Z capitalized on “Home’s” popularity by remixing the track into an electro banger. The beginning is slow, much like the original song, but the drop is pretty sick.

2010 didn’t play out so well for M.I.A.. We’re all sick of her remixes (if my girlfriends play a version of “Paper Planes” again, I may keel over). Two weeks after dropping her [decent] mixtape entitled “Vicki Leekz,” M.I.A. has released a new EP with four remixes of her song “Internet Connection.” Two of said remixes, by Flux Pavillion and Huoratron Rum Aid, are posted below and deserve some recognition.

Unfortunately I missed Steve Aoki’s Friday night return to Surrender while out in Vegas. The below remixes of “Wake Up Call” have helped me get over it.

Hip-Hop | CHILL RAP | Two New Divine Rhyme Tracks
Posted by BIGLIFE on December 17, 2010

Do I ever let you down? Here are two brand spanking new tracks from Divine Rhyme that showcase their unique style. Sir Sheck and Jahizzi started Divine Rhyme back in 2008 at Lehigh University while hosting a hip hop radio show together. After freestyling every week on the air, they decided to start making records and performing at local spots on campus and New York City. Since then the duo has opened up for The Roots, Cool Kids, Blu and Kidz N The Hall. This past spring they toured with FreshNewTracks’ affiliated artist Sam Adams on Stoolapalooza. These new tracks come off their EP, “Central Park Sessions,” set to drop in the spring. Check them out on Facebook
