Fred Falke is one of the great unsung heroes of electronic music. Yes, he has a considerable following and has been in the game for a long time, but for whatever reason I feel like he’s never fully given the spotlight. But perhaps that’s how he likes it. His understated yet musically lush remixes are always in keeping with the best of the French house tradition — melodic, disco-tinged, and eminently danceable. They’re also often so excellent that they quietly eclipse the original tracks (Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” is a fantastic song, but Fred Falke’s remix has become the platonic ideal for me).
Falke’s latest remix, of the Zedd-produced “I Don’t Like You,” is a perfect example of his ability to fix something that wasn’t technically broken to begin with. He isolates Eva Simons’s powerful vocals and weaves in a new melody with a much more interesting chord progression, which beautifully showcases that almost ecstatic harmony in the chorus. No adrenaline-baiting builds, no airhorn samples or superfluous synthwork; this is just good old fashioned electronic music at its very best. I’m even feeling this over Nicky Romero’s remix, which has been getting heavy airplay on BBC Radio One lately and is sure to see more in the coming weeks. Preview Fred Falke’s remix in full below and look for it to drop on Interscope on May 22.
Compilation, Progressive House | Tiesto – Club Life – Volume Two Miami
Posted by Middy on April 27, 2012
Tiesto has released his massive Club Life compilation as an ode to one of the EDM capitals of the US, Miami. His first Club Life was dedicated to Las Vegas, where he helped transform the music scene dominated by a Hip Hop to one of the EDM capitals of the world possibly second only to Ibiza. The overall album shows the current direction of Tiesto’s music himself and the direction of EDM with all progressive and electro house tracks making the cut on this incredible compilation. Unlike previous compilations that we have been seeing recently that are simply a whole bunch of other people’s songs, Tiesto either made or is part of 8 of 15 of the tracks. While only 6 of the tracks are brand new, in this day and age where the constant need for new songs is there and not all the songs are Tiesto’s, that is quite a good number.
The album starts off with Tiesto’s piano driven progressive track “Chasing Summers” that really has not gotten enough credit for its production work especially with the foreboding beginning, creating a massive sense of anticipation. The album continues with his “Space Junk”esque collaboration with Wolfgang Gartner “We Own The Night” and then moves through his big mainstream remixes of Gotye – “Somebody I Used To Know” and Coldplay “Paradise” that have gotten some serious tour play. The next two tracks is where the album is truly at its best with Sultan + Ned Shepard feat. Quilla – Walls and The Naked & Famous – Young Blood (Tiësto & Hardwell Remix). “Walls” is one of those vocal progressive house anthems you will hear this summer without really knowing who made it, but make sure to get to know this track, the vocals from Quilla and especially the euphoric melody make this a must have. Hardwell & Tiesto teaming on a track worked exceptionally well on “Zero 76” and it has worked at the same level on “Young Blood” with a sublime melody and great use of the indie vocals from The Naked & Famous. Read more and preview more tracks after jump. I recommend the unmixed version to get the whole track and it comes with the continuous mix that you would be buying anyway with the mixed CD.

DJ-Set, Electro-House, Progressive House | Tiësto & Wolfgang Gartner – We Own The Night ft. Luciana
Posted by Middy on April 6, 2012
Tiesto has released another single off of his much anticipated compilation album Club Life: Volume 2 Miami. This collaboration between Tiesto and Wolfgang Gartner displays both of their unique styles. The track starts with moving string elements and introduces the quality female vocals from Luciana who has become known for her work with Laidback Luke among others. The drop hits with a groovy, techy bass line that is almost identical to one of my favorite EDM tracks ever, Wolfgang Gartner – Space Junk with added synth elements over top and vocals from Luciana. If this track and the others that have been have been previewed in some form or another are indication that this album will nothing short of spectacular. Also below is Magnus & Timon’s Easter mix that puts together a range of tech to progressive tracks that will satisfy all tastes and keep you on your toes from one song to the next. Tracklist after the jump.

Electro-House, Progressive House | Sex Ray Vision – Relax EP
Posted by GMONEY on March 29, 2012
After giving the fans a taste of what to expect from Relax with the release of Blowfish last week, Sex Ray Vision decided that we are ready for the whole project. Unlike many of Sex Rays previous originals, Relax, is comprised almost entirely instrumental and truly highlights Ravi’s production prowess.
This project will appeal to all of you progressive house addicts with a taste for an added electro pump. Personally, I can’t seem to figure out which track is my favorite, as they all have their own addicting qualities. From the subtle samples in Limtless and One by One, to the powerful melody line of Blender, to the Avicii-esc quality of Blowfish, Relax has something to please almost any EDM aficionado.
