Electro, House | Deadmau5 turns 21…again?!
Posted by GMONEY on January 12, 2011
I’ve returned to the East after an exceptional trip out west. My visit to the “right coast,” as BIGLIFE calls it, floored me. Sure, it was great to enjoy the California weather (no tights were needed) but the revolution occurring musically in Los Angeles is what intrigued me the most. From lessons in DJ’ing dubstep to “shuffling,” my girlfriends and I were exposed to a music culture we had previously viewed from a distance.
We enjoyed our first night in West Hollywood at Premiere, a two-story Supper Club located on Las Palmas Avenue. Conveniently situated near The Roosevelt Hotel, Premier’s Thursday party was a perfect fit for us.
Premiere’s cocktail waitresses, complete with LED wands, transformed customers’ bottles into floating orbs of light. In contrast with these flashing lights were the wrought-iron balconies of Premiere’s second floor, and its giant, pine chandelier.
It wasn’t the environment, though, that impressed us. Around 1am, resident DJ Rick Rude began dropping an onslaught of dubstep, ear-gasm’s. Moments later, a cake was lit and delivered to Deadmau5, who celebrated his thirtieth (or twenty-first) birthday at the club. After Dubstrike was shut down, Skrillex added to the madness as he, too, joined the party.
Rick Rude recently signed with S.K.A.M Artists, and has worked nightly in Los Angeles for the past two years. His latest CD, Casablanca, is an interesting compilation of music and can be downloaded here.
Other songs played while on the “right coast:”
Afrojack – Polkadots (Oliver Twizt Remix)
Jinder – Youth Blood (12th Planet & Flinch Remix)
Oh, and dear Lakers fans…we attended your January 8th game against the Knicks. You suck!

Electro, Hip-Hop | ELECTRO POP | Britney Spears – Hold It Against Me
Posted by Juicebox on January 10, 2011

Produced by hitmakers Dr. Luke & Max Martin, this is a gauranteed international banger. Exactly what I’ve been talking about with electro taking over mainstream music…there’s even a dubstep sequence in the song…unreal.

Mashups | MASHUPS | Kap Slap 151 Mixtape
Posted by Juicebox on January 6, 2011

About a week ago we posted one of the best mashups I’ve heard this year which utilized one of the most monumental tracks to hit the United States in a while; Edward Maya’s “Stereo Dream.” The original track provides enough of a mainstream house feel that is made it to MTV and radios all over the nation, which (quote me on this) will take that annoying girl in your business administration class from saying she hates techno (when she really means electro), to saying Deadmau5 and Rusko are her favorite artists (kill me). REGARDLESS, Kap Slap is about to drop a massive DUBSTEP mashup featuring some of my favorite songs (Flux Pavilion’s remix of cracks, and a little skrillex) look out for that, we’ll be posting that the second it drops! Do your self a favor and download these and the entire mixtape HERE.

Dubstep | DUBSTEP | Artist You Need To Know – Flux Pavilion
Posted by Juicebox on January 4, 2011

Although dubstep originated in the UK and had a much more grimey feel, for the last 5 years dubstep has slowly been creeping into the music scene in the United States, especially in the last 6 months. If you played a Rusko track for me two years ago and told me that I would be listening to this music on repeat…I would have thought you were nuts. Fast forward to present day and take a look at my top 25 most played tracks on my iTunes, (beneath Halo by Beyonce) you’ll see at least 6 of those tracks are all dubstep. Flux Pavilion has penetrated the dubstep genre with filthy basslines, a nice blend of vocals, and massive drops that literally leave you’re jaw dropped. To read more on Flux Pavilion click the ‘MORE” button at the bottom; download all of these tracks…trust me.

Dubstep | DRUMSTEP | Raise Your Weapon (Switch Fusion Remix)
Posted by BIGLIFE on December 14, 2010

This song is a straight up HEATER! Before someone attacks me for mislabeling this track which is filled with dubstep womps, Switch Fusion categorized this as drumstep because it shares the bpm of a drum and bass song but combines it with dubstep sounds. Normally I hate dnb tracks but the dub is luring me in… Check out Switch Fusion on Facebook and Twitter.
