Dubstep | R Rated #64

Posted by on February 13, 2013

CULPRATE - SODDEN (MELAMIN & WICKED SWAY REMIX)I had not heard anything about this remix until it released 2 days ago. It’s a slow but filthy remix, still maintaining the epic vibes from Culprate. A must buy for anyone in love with nasty Dubstep/Breakbeat.

Beatport

This next track from Archie Cane, Sev & I have been obsessed with for days. It has deep carnival bass but in way we haven’t heard before. In other words, this track is dope.

FACEBOOK

Virtual seemed to have fallen off for a minute until his most recent releases. I was really feeling the griminess that carried with the vocals and the bass on this track. The drop comes at the most opportune moment and wreaks your ears.

FACEBOOK

Zanetic brought in an interesting underlaying theme to this track, it is almost middle-eastern. Either way, this track breaks into an insane drop, jam packed with different synths and bass.

FACEBOOK

Ah, I am so happy I saved this for R Rated. Not many know about Jomekka, but they should. He is one the first people I follow on Soundcloud, which says a lot considering I follow about 2000 artists now. Piercing lasers and crunchy bass, this track does not disappoint.

Progressive House | Cazzette – Weapon (Vicetone Remix)

Another remix and yet again Vicetone crush it with ease. Following up their “Clarity”, “Reason” and “Bulletproof” remixes that are still getting plays from various Djs and BBC Radio One, they waste no time resting on their laurels and provide us with yet another another outstanding remix. This one uses the same ideas as their “Clarity” remix with powerful guitar riffs and saws in the drop instead of their crisp big room synths. It is great to see some diversity in their sound and they weave the vocals superbly into the framework of the track. If you haven’t already, hit the download button, it should be automatic with a Vicetone track.

Dubstep, Preview | Koven – No Blocks

Posted by on February 12, 2013

Koven - More Than You EPPeople need to know Koven. His upcoming EP, “More Than You” is going to be a chart topper, I can just feel it. He incorporates the melodic vibes that everyone loves but also rocks bass to your core like no other. “No Blocks” is what Koven does. The melody takes you for a smooth ride until you meet the drop, and from there it sends chilling bass through you until the next lull. Koven’s EP “More Than You” releases on March 4th through Viper Recordings.

Drum & Bass | Younger Brother – Psychic Gibbon (Oscillator Z Remix)

Younger Brother - Psychic Gibbon (Oscillator Z Remix)

Literally just posted new Oscillator Z yesterday and now he releases another sick tune, only this time he went with Drum & Bass. I am really addicted to the liquid style he has flowing through this. The drop is electrifying, as if charging your mind for a great adventure ahead. The vocals just bring it all together for me, without them this track would feel incomplete. All around cool Drum & Bass track, round of applause for Oscillator Z.

Trance | Armin van Buuren vs. Arty – Nehalennia

nehalennia

Up next in this week’s epic batch of releases is Armin van Buuren and Arty’s stunning collaboration (which nobody knew was coming prior to its preview on ASOT 598, amiright). From the melancholic piano riffs to the floaty, chopped vocals, “Nehalennia” is a gorgeous trance journey from start to finish, befitting of the goddess it is named for. Small wonder that it’s slated as the opening track on Armin’s A State of Trance 2013 compilation, which is set to drop on Valentine’s Day.

On a related note: swaggy kicks in that artwork, Armin.

Trance | Ferry Corsten – Kudawudashuda

ferry corsten

Kicking off an absolutely massive week of releases is Ferry Corsten with “Kudawudashuda,” and I couldn’t be more excited. The hook is catchy and dramatic, the vibe is dark and spacey, and the synthwork is top of the line (I’m a huge sucker for those staccato plucks). This is a song to lose your mind to; it’s the song that’s playing at 4 am when you’ve made it to the tail end of a deep set and time has lost all meaning. Ferry will be joining Armin van Buuren and the whole team on several legs of the ASOT 600 world tour (which launches in Madrid this Thursday), so expect to hear much of this track in the coming weeks. It’s out now on Beatport via Ferry’s own Flashover Recordings and is set to drop on iTunes on February 25.

Progressive House | Lift Off #008

Posted by on February 9, 2013

Finally after a little longer than usual break, the 8th edition of Lift Off is here and as per usual we have packed it filled with gems. This Lift Off marks the first official contribution from our new author Malcolm or “Mel”, so look for more great tracks from him. The first track above is the vocal mix of Anakyn’s single “Point Black”, which previously saw a edit from Nicky Romero and adds another harmonic dimension to the track.

DubVision are among the best at coming up with progressive melodies and this remix of “Summertime” is no different. They stick to the same winning formula of “All By Myself”, “You & I” etc and deliver a peaktime, big room remix. Would like to see them switch it up a little, but for now it is working.

Paris Blohm delivers this emotional, uplifting track as a tribute to his sister who recently passed away. Female vocals add to the superb melody crafted by the young up and comer.

This remix from the Chainsmokers of Jonsi’s (singer of Sigur Ros) “Around Us” has been incredibly successful with its addictive melody and well placed stutters. This is a must have.
