Progressive House | Infinite Sole – Hurricane (feat. Raycee & Mills)

Posted by on April 1, 2013

Producing duo Joshua Gilbert and Jose Puente, known together as Infinite Sole are new names to me but they sure made a good first impression. The duo’s first original “Hurricane” is spectacular. The track starts off with an atmospheric pad and slow piano guiding the excellent vocals of Raycee & Mills before hitting a huge build and an energy packed drop. If you like what you hear then prepare yourself because they have another original coming soon.

Progressive House | Ferry Corsten – Rock Your Body Rock (Arty / Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Remixes)

In celebration of its 100th release, Ferry Corsten’s Flashover Recordings has tagged hot and in-demand producers to remix his 2003 classic “Rock Your Body Rock” – fittingly on the track’s 10 year anniversary. Arty brings back his “Rock N Rolla” styled remix, with the kind of vibes he put to use on his remix of Ferry Corsten’s “Punk” to great effect (and which was a launching point for his career). This remix features the similar hard snares and kicks as “Punk,” adding Arty’s own flavor to the track and carrying the timeless sound of the original to now. The “MainStage” mix from Belgian duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike has been the version that Ferry himself has played most lately, giving the track a modern day festival energy thanks to a tantalizing build and a hard-driving minimal drop that totally flips the script on the original. They both take very different approaches and have their own unique strengths, so take a listen and decide for yourself.

Drum & Bass | Billain – Blockfield/Boogie

Billain - Blockfield/Boogie

Sick two track Neurofunk release from Billain after his awesome remix for Reso. Neurofunk for those that didn’t know, is a sub-genre of Drum & Bass, known for having more stabs over the bassline and sharper backbeats. Leaving you with a fast paced and much more bass infused listen than the usual Drum & Bass. Billain has mastered this very difficult and detailed style of production. “Blockfield” starts out with coastal sounds (water trickles, seagulls, etc), then moves onto a few erie synths that take you into an energy filled drop. “Boogie” has to be my favorite of the two tracks though. It has that Russian warehouse feel, but once it drops my ears felt like they had just been thrown through time and are currently raving in the future with Samurai Jack. Billain did a great job on this two track set and as a bonus I have provided a preview of another one of his upcoming releases for April.

Electro-House, Progressive House | Lift Off #010

Posted by on March 23, 2013

Many things are changing now that spring is upon us. Girls are going to start wearing more revealing clothing, the weather is going to transition from cold to slightly less cold (I live in Canada), and Lift Off is no longer monthly. From now on, Lift Off will go up weekly on Saturdays, primarily because we didn’t like how the tracks we posted would end up being weeks old. This way, every track that goes up will be no older than a week. It will also mean that there won’t be as many songs on each edition as there were previously, though we feel this is an acceptable sacrifice for more up to date tracks. We start things off above with Reuben Keeney’s “Good times together” which is carried by a Kaskade like piano and soft vocals before hitting a progressive drop.

Candyland released an EP in honor of their Miami debut at WMC. My favorite track of the EP is their festival remix of Timeflies’ “Nothing At All”.

The Plastic People remix of the Imagine Dragons “It’s  Time” was my favorite song for quite a while. Markus Cole does a magnificent job of giving the song a progressive refresh that brought the indie-rock song back to life.

No uplifting chords or melodies to be found here, Kevin Drew’s latest “Halogen” is just a massive big room track.

Progressive House | Chris Lake – Ohh Shhh

Posted by on March 21, 2013

Following up his collab with Michael Woods, “Black Thong”, Chris Lake makes his return to American dance music giant, Ultra Records. “Ohh Shhh” is the quintisential club track with driving dutch synths, a hard hitting, rolling bass line and builds that do not let the energy drop one bit. The cover art is one to behold as well, for sure get you to chuckle. With his album coming later this year, Chris Lake is showing promise for what should be an outstanding 2013 for the Scottish Dj / producer.

Mt. Eden’s latest installment embodies a therapeutic vibe that is very koi to my ears. It’s always a pleasure to hear new things from this New Zealand duo. Their new EP ”Sierra Leone” is set to drop later this year.

Electro-House | Daddy’s Groove & Cryogenix – Vertigo

Coming off of the release of “Stellar“, Italian duo Daddy’s Groove team up with Italian trio Cryogenix to release this high energy track on David Guetta led Jack Back Records. “Vertigo” uses ominous builds that lead into a simple, yet effective drop of thunderous percussion, a pounding bass line and the occasional electro stutter. This festival sized cut is yet another track that is among the many tracks we are seeing now that espouse hard hitting, percussive drops, designed to do the most damage on the biggest of stages.
