Nearly 2 years ago one of our writers, W8, introduced me to a very dope and underrated artist that is CJ Trillo. Ever since then, I’ve kept CJ projects in heavy rotation due to his pure lyrical originality and smooth productions, which are for the most part created by his right hand man, Jim IE. Today he released his fourth project, Volume 1: Nostalgia. CJ said that this project is everything in him that he’s wanted to release, but was always too self-conscious to in the past. He’s finally reached the point in his artistic career where he’s grown past the concern of how other people view him. With that being said, he has finally allowed himself to vocalize and create all the ideas and vibes he’s wanted to since he first started rapping back in 2009. Currently v obsessed with Mad Decent’s own LIZ. This remix is of her track “U Over Them” by Peking Duk and CRNKN (that’s pronounced “crankin'”) is just a really great jam. Short and sweet today – this is kind of a mix of a whole buncha different styles but it’s got an overall great vibe so indulge and enjoy.

Trap | Britney Spears – Work Bitch (Chi Duly & Louie XIV)

What would Britney sound like on a trap beat? Chi Duly seems to specialize in answering questions no one asks. This time around he collabs with newcomer Louie XIV, for a “hillbilly trap” rendition of “Work Bitch”. Honestly seeing as how Katy Perry, Rihanna and Miley have all put out “edm trap” ish records, we’re kind of surprised Britney (who jumped on the dubstep wagon in 2011) chose such a dated edm sound on the original Work Bitch.

“This was an original beat that we submitted for Britney’s record. They passed on it , so we turned trailer park lemons into a trailer park lemonade stand and flipped it into this.”

I don’t take submissions anymore. When I receive them, I usually trash them. This new Forever Kid remix caught my attention, and rightfully so. While little is known about Forever Kid, what I do know is that they’re a Swedish production duo that are taking the blogosphere by storm with their infectious nu-disco tunes. Their take on the Bee Gee’s “Tragedy” is no exception, showcasing a nostalgic summertime sensibility that is worming its way into the mainstream. Feel the groove. Cool? Cool. Hat tip to Aaron Harper.

Electro, Trap | Krewella – Live For The Night (Sean Kongery & Klavay Remix)

Since it’s been a while since I’ve heard any attention-grabbing trap remixes, I figured Sean Kongery and Klavay’s would be a nice little re-introduction. The producer duo teamed up to tackle Krewella’s esteemed “Live For The Night”, a single off of their forthcoming album Get Wet. Sean and Klavay added some pretty massive drops jam packed with alien-sounding synths and chopped vocals.
The original is without a doubt difficult to remix because of it’s intricacy and distinct sound, however, the pair made it work and put a nice new spin on it.
