Moombahton | Dillon Francis – Bootleg Fireworks

Posted by on October 30, 2012

Dillon Francis follows up his collaborative effort with Calvin Harris on his new album 18 Months with a single release on Calvin Harris’ label Fly Eye Records. The track revels in the bouncy moombahton that has helped catapult Dillon Francis to where he his is in his career, while adding chopped soulful vocals and fast paced synth chords. Dillon continues to show his versatility as a producer and when trap seems to be taking the place of moombahton, it is nice to see one of its champions returning to it.

Moombahton | Madeon – Finale (Dillon Francis Remix)

Posted by on August 20, 2012

I’ll get the bad out of the way first: this remix is pretty underwhelming, as I think it was basically fated to be from the outset. While I do kind of wish that the original was twice as long, it is such an exhilarating force of a song with such a complex and distinctive chord progression that I never really thought it could be improved upon. Bottom line? Dillon Francis may have just been faced with an impossible task here. To his credit, he brings his trademark sound to Madeon’s handiwork with verve, dropping the tempo down to 112 bpm and brightening the drops with those recognizable high synths. It’s not better, but it’s different in an interesting way, and if the original weren’t so amazing it would be an objectively excellent remix. But sadly it’s the original that I’ll be blasting in the car on my way to work tomorrow. I’ll reserve final judgment until I hear it live — I think that the “unpredictable” factor has the potential to surprise and ultimately wind up a crowd in a a big way.

Trap | Dillon Francis – Masta Blasta (THE REBIRTH)

Posted by on July 11, 2012

Looks like the Trap wave has officially settled in with most artists. Skrillex is on this list with a trapt-out remix to Birdy Nam Nam’s Goin’ In, now we have Dillon Francis revamping one of his biggest Moombah tunes off of his hit EP “Westside”. I’m not complaining at all because all these trap remixes are opening doors once again to new styles and new fusions of genres just like Moombah did when it first emerged.

Moombahton | Mr Mongoose’s Fantastic Weekend EP

Posted by on June 18, 2012

Sorry I have been letting Summer take the best of me these last few days, but no worries because I am about to unleash all hell on releases this week. I didn’t get the chance to post this last week before the shenanigans began, but it is definitely worth the post. Circus Records decided, to hell with it, if no major labels are gutsy enough to put out a Moombahton EP with well known artist, we are going to stand out and show them how it is done. And they easily delivered some sensational funky tunes. Doctor P and Flux were able to convince some of these artist who I could never imagine making a Moombahton track to do so. The master of the dirtiest darkest tunes, who even has two personas to separate his Deep Dubstep and Heavy Dubstep tunes, FuntCase/Haze, even took a stab at Moombahton. Personally that says a lot about Circus Records and the artist they work with. Trying to expand a newly growing genre as well as the boundaries for their artist. I won’t say that I personally thought all the tracks were amazing, but 501, Doctor P and Dillon Francis, as well as Brown & Gammon surely delivered. Don’t sleep on this exciting EP and get it on Beatport HERE.

Moombahton | Moombah Mondays (Trap Edition)

Posted by on May 14, 2012

Moomba Blasta has been on point with their Trap uploads lately, and they have won me over. Honestly I cannot get enough of Trap-style after roaming through their youtube channel so I decided this weeks Moombah Mondays is going to be dedicated to Trap-style tracks.  Starting off with the above track; wow do I love those vocals. The quick drums and snares accompanied by that heavy bass kick are bound to get the job done for any crowd. Whether you like it or not Flosstradamus, being one of the big names in Trap, is having their tracks played out by all the big names; Diplo, Flux Pavillion, Dillon Francis just to name a few. Just to help broaden your views on the genre I have two tracks from Flosstradamus on this weeks Trap-style Mondays. One is an old track that I just fell in love with again after hearing it being freestyled over by Papoose on Sway In The Morning, 5 Fingers of Death Freestyles. The newer one entitled Look At The Sky, gives you a taste of some hip-hop infused Trap music. Both bringing some extreme boundaries together into one amazing genre that is still growing.

This next one is a secret weapon of Luminox’s that he was kind enough to give away. I never new the famous Bingo Players track Rattle would ever be pushed to these bounds, but this is one of my favorite remixes to the track. The prolonged bass kick, fits perfectly with this melody and the reversal of the melody on the second drop worked out phenomenally.

Another truly remarkable and unique interpretation of a big dubstep track. Doctor P decided to put his single Neon up for a remix competition and so far most artist have decide to just try their hand at it, but end up giving away their remixes. This one I was happy to have from CRNKN, because it is so organized and well constructed. Nothing feels forced or out of place like I have heard with other tracks. I would love to see this sort of track being played more by big EDM artist to help expand these smaller genres.

Moombahton | Valentino Khan – Flare Gun (Original Mix)

Posted by on March 20, 2012

The Moombahton underdog, Valentino Khan, unleashes another banger supported by the likes of Dillon Francis, Toddla T, Bro Safari, ETC!ETC!, Sazon Booya and more. Not many know of this amazing producer, who has been behind some big tracks in other genres that were mentioned in the previous post about him that was a collaboration entitled Rukus. Be assured you won’t be disappointed with his productions and this track is another supporter to that argument. Show the man some love and like his FACEBOOK page.
