We remember when we first received an e-mail from Collin McLoughlin. It was 2010, and he contacted us with a single submission. We were instantly impressed. In fact, we can still remember where we were when we heard his voice. We knew then that Collin McLoughlin was destined for greatness. While the Collin’s road to success has taken him to places like NBC’s “The Voice”, he’s on a new mission. Since July of 2013, Collin has been releasing a slew of impressive remixes and originals that have gained support from just about everyone in the blogosphere. Collin’s profile is quickly rising, so we decided to check in with him to talk about how a Youtube cover singer from New York became one of the most talked about names in the melodic bass world.
1. Forgive me for asking, but how did a guy that was knocked out in the second round of NBC’s “The Voice” become a successful melodic dubstep producer and DJ, essentially out of nowhere?
It took an incredible amount of dedication and hard work. I’ve learned everything I know about production from various online tutorials, Youtube, and trial and error. I also have had some good friends like Carlos Cid who have given me tremendous advice. That said, the majority of my DJ and production knowledge has come from an insane amount of hard hours spent teaching myself.

Collin McLoughlin is the king of melodic dubstep. There’s no question about it. He can write. He can produce. He can sing. He can even DJ. What does the guy not do at this point? When we heard he was releasing a “Transatlanticsm” remix we didn’t know what to think. What Collin’s come up with here is serious business. Not only is this remix beautiful, we’ve heard rumor that a huge collaboration is in the works. There’s no question that Collin’s star is quickly rising. Cream Collective has been killin’ it lately. Orca is the newest addition to the Cream Collective, hailing from Brighton, Britain. “My Zenith” is chill, relaxing and tranquil, without being boring. Birds chirp along with occasional subtle vocal sampling over an ethereal atmosphere in this mellow masterpiece. Audien has had a breakout year, and what better way to cap it off than with a track on the label that released “Leaving You” and that encapsulates the progressive Audien sound. This is the second collaboration between Audien and Ruby Prophet, following up their 2012 single on Zouk, “These Are The Days”. “Circles” has all the same stylistic similarities with a catchy melody, just the right amount of the vocals and the vintage Audien touch.

At the beginning this song makes out to be just another twerk remix with claps on claps on claps… but once the synths kick in, this remix goes from twerking to trapping. Such a good collaboration of the two genres and use of the sample. Don’t get me wrong – I have a strong love for the original, but the way that TWRK has redone the edit, completely new way of listening to the song without getting bored!

Everyone knows that the amount of plain black or white v-necks an artist owns is a direct correlation to their production prowess, which is why it makes perfect sense that Marcus Santoro practically lives in v-necks. He has somehow managed to hold himself back from taking pictures of his dog and laptop screen long enough to release a couple of tracks for free. The first one being his remix of Strange Talk’s “Picking Up All The Pieces” that he completed some time ago but because of complications with labels and, of course, Avicii, it is just now seeing the light of day as a free download. The second is a new original done in collaboration with fellow Australian producer Djuro.

What?!?! Damn, I remember when I heard first heard each of these guys, the first collaboration they released together, and now I will never forget one of the sweetest Blink-182 remixes I have ever set my ears upon by none other than PRFFTT & Svyable. It only took the intro of this song for me to know that this was going to make my week, and the next weeks to come. You have to listen to this.
