Alternative, Indie | BEND – Four

Posted by on October 7, 2014

Nothing excites me quite as much as young people with a passion for music.

Enter: BEND, the duo of college students who make indescribable Pop/Indie/Alternative sounds from their respective dorm rooms. Both originally from Los Angeles, vocalist, Sean, relocated to New York while producer, Garrett, stayed close to home at the University of Southern California.

Limited by their time apart during the school year, BEND spends countless hours during the Summer writing, producing, and recording. As they prepare to release their next project, Sean and Garrett unleash, “Four”. The song is co-produced by blackbear and shows the immense all-around talent of the band.

It had been nearly a year since last putting out a song. The artistic growth is palpable, and one can only imagine what is still in the vault, awaiting the public’s ears.

If you’re a fan, check out Garrett’s solo cover of the Baby Bash smash, “Suga Suga”, here.

Hip-Hop | G-Eazy – Gotta Go (feat. BEND / Daniel Johnston)

G-Eazy’s been on the fast track ever since he started his music career. His music has stayed relatively to his style as his path down the winding road is slowly building, but this single of all single’s has got to be my favorite. It’s the perfect blend of alternative and hip-hop that makes it an enjoyable listen while still allowing your ears to really listen to what he has to say. Definitely take a peak at this since it didn’t make that track list on his upcoming album!

Albums, Indie, Review | Bend – Riverfriend

Posted by on July 10, 2013

Yesterday, the indie synth-pop duo group Bend released their album, Riverfriend. The album is a dynamic range of electronic and natural sounds, each track contrasting the previous. There’s a perfect song for everyone on here. If you like Vampire Weekend, try “I’m Taking Care of Him.” Imogen Heap fan? Give “Riverfriend I” a go. Or maybe you’re a Motown, barbershop quartet kinda guy, in which case “Everyone” is all you. Don’t mind me though; I’ll be over in the corner dancing along to “No Space.”

This album makes great use of silence and minimalism (something we tend to forget about in the EDM world), showcasing the quirky vocals of Bend’s Sean Eads. As it turns out, Eads’ voice is the metaphorical commentary of Jacky Bryan. What is this Jacky Bryan you speak of, other than the 3rd track on the album, you may be asking? Well…

The album is an eclectic commentary on the ubiquitous feeling of not belonging, as told from the perspective of a mysterious space alien named Jacky Bryan.

You’ll find after giving the album a listen, you might be surprised by how much you connect with both the lyrics and the hardships of an extraterrestrial being. Maybe life on other planets isn’t such a distant concept. So, I’ll just leave that there, along with this video for “I’m Taking Care of Him,” a perfect visual pairing for the single. Enjoy!

DO SOMETHING

Indie | Bend – Short Crush

 bend

It’s Sunday. You’re either exhausted from studying from finals or maybe you got a little too turnt up last night, so getting out of bed right now is taking every last bit of effort you have left. I get it. Now unless you’re one of those hyper motivated freaks who’s already made your protein shake, gone on a 5-mile run and is finishing up assignments for next week, you’re going to need something to get your blood flowing. I got just the thing and it’s BEND’s latest release, Short Crush. So here’s what you’re gonna do: download this song, crank it up bit by bit and watch as you gradually float out from under the covers and conquer the day (well, whatever’s left of it anyways).

Ah, the power of music.
