Alternative | Burial & Four Tet – Nova
Posted by W8 on March 6, 2012
I’m all ears when it comes to music. Sonically, there is nothing I wouldn’t consider worth my ears. I developed a passion for experimental music long ago, and watched it grow into the sensation it is today. When I caught the amount of attention this track was getting I had to take the opportunity to prove just that. Soundcloud wise, this record in one days time has more plays than Avicii’s hit Levels had managed to get in 4 months. If that doesn’t prove the rocketing of experimental music, what could.
Alternative, post-dubstep, experimental, however many labels you wish to name. There will always be artists that act as stubborn children in that their driven to produce what not only blurs the lines of genre but makes it absurd for you to even try and categorize in one. From the likes of Mount Kimbie, Jamie XX, Lapalux, Arthur Russell, Shlohmo and of course Burial and Four Tet, these are just a few of the many talents still left waiting for the masses to catch up with their past.
My public service announcement is as follows: Thanks goes out to the late great Steve Jobs for the creation of the iPod, making music no longer sonically racist in a time when you felt you had to fit into a particular genre like a pair of clothes and not dare dabble in any others. And thanks to the makers of Soundcloud for broadening our view of music into the sonic playground it is today. Records like Nova say more than words ever will, take a listen.

Progressive House | Sebastian Ingrosso & Alesso feat. Ryan Tedder – Calling (Lose My Mind)
Posted by Middy on February 29, 2012
The much anticipated vocal mix of the summer anthem “Calling” from the Swedish super stars Alesso and Sebastian Ingrosso has finally arrived. With vocals from One Republic’s Ryan Tedder, the song is taken to a whole new level of euphoria and makes this track that was seemingly perfect even better. Alesso & Seb have been playing this out for a little while now and since its radio play on Swedish House Mafia’s second takeover of BBC Radio One, the anticipation built to a fever pitch, but now with its release we can enjoy this gem and add yet another release to both of these producers great careers. This is only the start for these two this year with Alesso making me look smart at the beginning of the year previewing his massive single “Years“, as well as his collaboration with Steve Angello and Seb “Eclipse“. As always Seb has his work with SHM, and their upcoming single “Greyhound“, the aforementioned collaboration with Steve Angello & Alesso and as Refune label owner he will always remain in the spotlight. It is not available for purchase in US right now, but will be soon!

Progressive House | John Dahlback – Life
Posted by Middy on February 28, 2012

John Dahlback has found his 2012 anthem with this progressive house masterpiece “Life”. Tabbed as the essential new tune by Pete Tong a few Slot Games ago, this song is ready to destroy clubs and festivals worldwide. With uplifting synth riffs and an explosive bass line in the drop, this song is certain to be an anthem for the beginning of 2012 from the vastly underrated Swedish Producer / Dj.
Dubstep, Electro | PREVIEW: Space Laves; South Central, CTLGD, and CENOB1TE
Posted by Sev on February 20, 2012
Space Laces is going become a more common name throughout 2012, already having most of his tracks featured in Datsik’s UMF mix. Be on the lookout for this guy because he has some big tunes in the making that will melt your brains. South Central just released this official remix of Nero’s Must Be The Feeling as a free download to add to the bunch. These guys have been receiving some support from Knife Party lately who have been dropping there spastic, seizure styled tracks live. You will know what im talking about once you listen to this track.
Next up we have sweet remix of John O’Callaghan Find Yourself by CTLGD who were two separate artist formerly known as Glitch Dick and Christian The Lion. A little bit of a short remix, but nevertheless they managed to get the job done with a nasty, grimey drop.
All credit on this track goes to W8. I got this monster track in my email this morning and it woke me up right away. This one has everything you could want in a dubstep remix; from vocals, to laser synths, to heavy bass.
DJ-Set, House | Swedish House Mafia Essential Selection 2/17/12
Posted by Middy on February 18, 2012
Swedish House Mafia took over Pete Tong’s legendary Essential Selection show for the second time last night, revealing some information about upcoming songs and played tracks from a whole variety of genres from progressive to tech to electro to indie. They talk a fair amount about Los Angeles, where Steve Angello has been living and working for the past 4 years and what makes it so special. Deadmau5 came on the show to do a guest mix, talk about what is in store for 2012. They played a fair amount of unreleased tracks, including Alesso’s new single “Years” (above), Nari & Milani’s “Atom”, the vocal version of Alesso & Sebastian Ingrosso’s anthemic track “Calling” now called “Losing My Mind” (below) and Steve Angello’s finished copy of his signature track “Yeah“, which is quite different from what he has been playing out for the better part of a year. They also revealed the name of the new Swedish House Mafia single premiered at Madison Square Garden, “Greyhound“, which is slightly different from the version played there, but it is still an amazing song. Tracklist for the show after the jump.

Progressive House | Hard Rock Sofa – Quasar
Posted by Middy on February 13, 2012
After what was thought to be a much longer wait for the release of this song, Axtone decided to put it up to the fans when they wanted this song to be released and today was the day decided for this absolutely massive song that ever since its playing by Swedish House Mafia at Madison Square Garden has been one of the most anticipated tracks to be released in 2012. Originally 3 members, 2 Dj/producers and 1 singer who worked primarily in a rock band, Hard Rock Sofa has evolved ever since the singer left with the two Dj/producers to make the massive electro / progressive songs that they have become increasingly famous for making. “Quasar” takes them to the next level with a build that almost lulls you to sleep and then an insanely powerful drop that hits you like a ton of bricks. This widely supported track is definitely going to be a keeper from the rising Russian duo.
Progressive House | Otto Knows – Million Voices
Posted by Middy on February 8, 2012
The young up and coming Swede, my number one guy to watch out for in 2012, Otto Knows has finally released his much anticipated single “Million Voices” after many months of playing it out. A song that has been championed by Sebastion Ingrosso and many other big name Djs, it has all the makings of an early year anthem, so expect this one to be a staple of the first half of this year perhaps all of 2012. The name “Million Voices” derives from the vocal sample that Otto Knows used with a whole bunch of kids shouting and singing that works in perfect harmony with the rest of the song. The bass line flows perfectly with the vocals sample, while the various pitched synths create a euphoric feeling in this song that only grows on you. Link taken down, so get this amazing track on Beatport.
