Electro-House | Rather Red – Stigmata

Posted by on August 3, 2012

Rather Red is rather good. He is no stranger to FNT, and is extremely consecutive with his releases which I hold to be very important when I listen to an artist. Thought his mashup of this track with Justice and Simian is good, I have to say the instrumental alone brings greater enjoyment. Rather Red has created some of the most epic remixes, which is why the quality of this track is no surprise but is sweet enough to be one.

Dubstep, Electro-House | Dream — This Isn’t House EP

Posted by on August 2, 2012

After a years wait, FINALLY this track has been released. Big thanks to Skrillex for finally signing the track and forcing Dream to finish it up. I will say there is a little dissapointment in the lack of variation through the track and how he didn’t decide to change any of the the three drops. After keeping the fans waiting so long, Dream could have at least varied the drop style a little bit, but instead the track sound like it is looped three time, which came as a big disappointment. As far as the remixes go, Flinch has an amazing remix to the original almost putting it to shame. Flinch takes the original and creates almost a whole new track even with an addition of some unique vocals that aren’t featured in the original.  I didn’t expect to see a Moombahton remix to this track, but of course LoBounce came through with a nice interpretation. Ironically Topher Jones was called up to do a house remix to this track. Nothing too exciting in my opinion and kind of bland. You can grab the EP on Beatport HERE.

Electro-House | Albin Myers – The Beast

Posted by on August 1, 2012

The title says it all, this song is a beast. Coming off of his “Hells Bells” EP, Albin Myers continues his streak of high octane progressive / electro house tracks with “The Beast”. Albin Myers starts off with a complex, fast moving bass line and progresses into his high energy sound packed with thumping bass and gritty synths. Musical Freedom continues its string of fantastic releases as it solidifies itself as one of the premier dance labels.

Electro-House | Zedd & Nicky Romero – Human

Posted by on July 31, 2012

Zedd and Nicky Romero’s much-anticipated collaboration is out today on Interscope, and unfortunately I can’t shake the feeling that these two could have (should have?) produced something more…explosive. Both boast top shelf production skills and well-honed musical ears. Both are known for the palpable level of intensity that defines the majority of their tracks. But this? This just seems depressingly, confusingly average. There’s so much promise leading up to the drop, with the vocals magnified against that pulsing build, but then…nada. Real talk, I’ll be sticking with “Sparks” and the much more interesting body of “Spectrum” remixes.

Electro-House | Hardwell & Showtek – How We Do

Posted by on July 30, 2012

Showtek continues their move away from their traditional Hardstyle sound towards a more popular Electro House sound. Though this transition has been a couple years in the making, it has only been very publicly realized (they were part of Boys will be Boys with Anger Dimas & Tiesto) with their track “Hell Yeah” with Tiesto, an upcoming track with Bassjackers and today their massive track “How We Do” is unleashed upon the world. This is not a track that cannot be contained on computer speakers with its ear throbbing bass line, high energy synth chords and vocal bit that brings in the massive drop. Already a favorite of Arty, Tiesto, and many more, get ready to hear this as a peak time track during the rest of festival season, notably if you are seeing Hardwell at Electric Zoo.

Electro-House, Progressive House | dBerrie – Voices

Posted by on July 30, 2012

dBerrie’s arena-ready track “Voices” is out today on Fedde Le Grand’s Flamingo Recordings. The New York-based producer has rapidly made a name for himself with a high profile performance at Cosmic Opera back in April and remixes of well-known tracks like “Titanium” and “Rolling in the Deep.” His latest original release raises the bar even higher; with a fierce hook and punchy, high-octane synths, “Voices” is definitely something I expect to hear as we head into the final weeks of the 2012 festival season.
