Bootleg, Review | Miles Medina: New Fame, New Track

Miles Medina, the 26-year-old breakout artist from the San Francisco-Bay Area gave us some time on the phone the other day to talk about his career so far, what’s going on now, and what we can look for in the future.
Following a burst of fame after the release of his “My Neck My Back” remix, Miles had artists all over the map throwing down his track. He even went on to describe it as a “staple” in Lil Jon’s set for a while, and that it was rumored EDM legend Diplo had spun it a few times. Check out the banger for yourself:
Just a couple of months later, Miles would release another hard-hitting remix of Rich Boy’s “Throw Some D’s,” gaining him even more visibility. Shortly after this, he signed on to Monster Products as an official artist, just in time to close out 2013. Since then, he’s performed in a variety of venues, such as the Soundscape Music Festival in Tahoe, playing alongside the likes of ETC!ETC!, DJ Chuckie, Borgore, and Carnage. His performing experience spans beyond his solo career, however, doing shows with Mad Decent-featured and SF-native producer Panic City under the alias URFRIENDS. When asked how his time in the limelight will affect the duo, Miles commented that he and Panic City have “told each other that they are never going to stop doing URFIRENDS,” and “it’s never going to fall apart.”
Just this past week, Miles released a new track that encompasses a variety of genres, creating a fully developed sound that will no doubt go off in the club. The remix of Gorilla Zoe’s “Hood N***a” is up for free download on Miles’ Facebook page (and it’s definitely worth it if you’re looking to turn up a little bit). We asked Medina what we could look for in the coming months, and he said he plans to release tracks at least once or twice per month, and to look out for some “big,” unnamed collaborations. Events, Review | Tasty Treat: The Central Coast’s Most Dynamic Duo

FNT was lucky enough to have a chance to sit down with the up-and-coming Tasty Treat, a SLO-based duo that’s been throwing out bangers together for about the last year. Comprised of 23 & 24-year-old Devin Hardy and John Smith, Tasty Treat’s beginning to gain more and more credibility as an artist, currently getting their reps in on tour with Kicks n Licks of San Diego. With support from big names like Flume, DJ Snake, and Mr. Carmack, this was one opportunity I did not want to miss.
After meeting four years ago and DJ’ing parties under the alias “Casa Street Hooligans,” Devin and John had no idea that they would soon be on track to become one of the most, if not the most, talented electronic musicians in the area. Before Tasty Treat, however, both of them had diverse musical backgrounds, including Devin’s involvement in a high school band called “The Raging Hormones.” I did my best to scour the internet for evidence, and now you can find their hit single “Hindsight” right HERE – it’s pretty special to say the least.
All kidding aside though, Tasty Treat has shown a level of proficiency in a variety genres that most other artists can’t. The two started out with a more electro style, which eventually evolved into a mix of trap and future garage. One of the best examples of this, and possibly their most popular song, is an original track titled “You Got Me.”
To touch on their live performance, it was definitely one of the better sets I’ve seen in a while. Their strong showmanship, mixed with playing in their hometown, produced an intense vibe that was pretty spectacular to watch. Starting out with gLAdiator’s “Ain’t It,” Tasty Treat got the crowed hyped up from the very beginning, and got them even more stoked on some of their own tracks. For example, when John & Devin dropped their “Gas Pedal” remix, everyone was up on their feet, singing along; and when it dropped, the entire venue went absolutely insane.
Overall, Tasty Treat is an artist you need to keep an eye out for, and if you get the chance, to go see live. Already with support from major names so early in their career, John & Devin are right on track to take over the EDM industry, and really show everyone how much they can get you going. Make sure to give them some love on their social media platforms, and be one of the people to get them there.

YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS.
All the music that I listened to throughout the last 12 months enough to make me sick but somehow didn’t. The fields of music brought a bountiful yield in 2013 which allowed listeners like me to tune into more genres and artists than I could ever imagine. In order to cover all my necessary bases, I’ve drafted quite a comprehensive list (or two) missing prety much only anything Jennifer Lawrence related although if all the things she said this year were songs then they would 100% have made it on my list as well.

One cool thing that happened to me this year was that I got hired on to write for FNT. I have followed this website for years and it has led me to mountains of great music. I’m glad that I now have the opportunity to share music with the website. This year I became a bigger fan of mixes; I love to see what artists can do when given an extended period of time within which they can be creative. Below is the list of 10 mixes that I liked the most from this past year, with some other mixes mentioned at the end that didn’t make this list based on who knows what. The list is more or less ranked in order, with mix #1 definitely being my favourite. If you don’t want to listen to all of the mixes, and don’t care what I have to say about them, then skip ahead and at least listen to the number 1 mix – Space Jams by The M Machine (hence the above, cool picture of those guys). Okay, so for those of you who don’t already know, aside from being one of the most talented, Dillon Francis (AKA DJ Hanzel) is hands down one of the funniest, most creative artists in the industry right now. Whether it’s reenacting scenes from Adam Sandler movies, casually handing out free tacos for DJ awareness, or just making jokes that nobody entirely understands, this guy really does come up with some of the most hilarious (and weirdest) things you’ll see on the internet.
Now, I’m sure many of you saw the (almost uncomfortable) video below of Dillon and 12th planet playing out the scene from “Ghost” where Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore sensually make pottery together:
This clip came up in a conversation I had with a friend the other day, which then prompted us to revisit what other crazy stuff Dillon will do for money. Of course, under the category “Awesome S**t” on his merch website, we found a spectacular collection of things he’ll do for dollars. Some of my favorites include DJing a Bar/Bat Mitzvah for 15k, becoming a vegan for a year for 40k, and joining the US Army for $1,000,000.
Here’s where you come in. I’m pretty sure a lot of us don’t have $40,000 just lying around (unless the Rich Kids of Instagram want to throw down); so if we want one of these things to happen, we’re going to need to work together. I’ve started an online fundraising campaign HERE so that we can do it. In two months we’ll count up how much we have, and buy the best one we can. At the very least, we’ll have him tweet a randomly selected FNT follower. The person who donates most will win a special FNT prize. Let’s go one deeper and get some DJ Awareness going!

Albums, Review, Trap | Brillz – Retwonked

Just a week ago, Brillz dropped a remix rendition of his Twonk LP. This release is suitably named Retwonked and is a song for song remix package (granted, there are two remixes of WTF on here), and it again takes trap style music and gives if a jet engine face wash.
Brillz is among the clan of artists that are responsible for keeping trap music – and other genres, in a less significant manner – interesting and moving forward. Mundane isn’t in this dude’s vocabulary. I love listening to Brillz mixes, and seeing him live because his music is a blast to party to. It’s trap music that’s hyped way up, and includes so many elements of different genres, that he can toss in just about anything that is high energy and it feels right at home. He brought on a bunch of remixes by his other fellow innovators for this package. The result that is unprecedented, and packed with upside-down A’s. I gave a few words about each track, as well as an EP teaser mix and a full length Brillz mix after the jump.
