Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Childish Gambino – The Backroom (Freestyle)

Posted by on June 9, 2012

Everybody’s favorite(and only) acting, producing, screenwriting, rapper stops by the BET Backroom to drop a great freestyle. After watching the 15 second ad for some strange new show featuring Cedric the Entertainer, I was understandably in a pretty pissy mood. But after hearing this, and seeing Gambino’s sweatshirt, I was immediately put in a better mood. He murders some random BET beat with a few random DJ scratches in cold blood.

Also, Kendrick stopped by The Backroom to annihilate a funeral like beat with a quickly spit 64 bars. At some point, you have to start questioning how much of this is ACTUALLY freestyled, but anyway, check out Kendrick’s freestyle here, and Donald’s above.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Rook – Kingdom & No Church (Freestyle)

Posted by on June 1, 2012

My dude Rook doesn’t swing often, but when he does he takes a big cut.  His most recent track, “No Church (Freestyle)”, is a prime example of Rook jockin’ an industry beat.  Maintaining an urbane tone with his words, the Cambridge, MA native punishes the 88-keys production with insightful and clever lyrics.  The second track, “Kingdom” is an original, which will be featured on his upcoming mixtape entitled, MixedApe.  With this, Rook does his part in putting New England on his back and continue to build his kingdom.  It may be a long time coming, but who’s sleeping on Rook!?!?

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | XV – Stone Cold (Recipe Freestyle)

Vizzy drops off this little freestyle to show his pride in his city. Coming from the state of Kansas as a rapper must be hard, so it’s nice to see Vizzy showing love to his roots. I love when artists take pride in their city, Macklemore, Mac Miller, Wiz Khalifa, and many others have released songs dedicated to their cities. This is supposedly a freestyle, but in todays game, I feel like the word “freestyle” is thrown around pretty loosely. Sound off in the comments or get at me in the chat box(@J_Salzer) with your thoughts on the topic of freestyling and it’s place in music. No download yet, but be on the lookout for this posting being updates soon with the DL link. Downloads were enables as I was writing this post. That’s a good look.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | J. Cole – Drank in My Cup (Freestyle)

Posted by on March 23, 2012

Two days ago a “remix” of Kirko Bangz hit, “Drank In My Cup” leaked out “featuring” J. Cole.  Well apparently it was falsely identified and it was not recorded as a remix but rather a freestyle by the Cole crowned king himself.  Listen here in full as Cole blesses us with an awesome new freestyle leading us into the weekend.

Electro, Freestyle, Hip-Hop, House, Rap, Throwbacks | Snoop Dogg and Soundcloud: A Love Story

Posted by on March 20, 2012

A few days ago, Snoop Dogg was handed a slip of paper that would change the face of the modern world forever. On it were the username and password to a Soundcloud account — an account long forgotten and gathering dust, an account more unloved and underutilized than so many Myspace pages of yore. We don’t know how this account came into existence (from the looks of page 7, it was set up by his management team about a year ago), but these details are unimportant now. Because for whatever reason, on this fated March morning, Snoop Dogg set out to make his Soundcloud the greatest effing Soundcloud on the planet.

I’m not kidding when I say that. This is one of the most epic and entertaining things I’ve come across in a long time. My running theory is that Snoop Dogg hit 47 js and then parked himself in front of his computer for 15 hours, just uploading without so much as a bathroom break. I’ve been sitting at work going through this thing and it’s literally a goldmine — there are rough cuts, studio outtakes, instrumentals that are far from finished, remakes of some of his older tracks, and then total curve balls like this hour long disco-funk-electro-tinged-slow-jam-heavy mix that I can’t even do justice to in words. It’s a weird but wonderful insight into his creative process, and the best part is that everything up there is a free download. If you’ve been in need of a good Snoop Dogg fix since 2004, this is your moment. And even if you haven’t been, do yourself a favor and check his stuff out anyway. All the major musical foodgroups are covered: “SNOOPADELIC MIXX,” “BLOWFLY G SHIT,” and, of course, just…”GOOD MUSIC.”

Snoop, we’ve missed you. Welcome back to the game.

SNOOP DOGG’S SOUNDCLOUD: 5+ Pages of Straight Up SC Gold

Edit: goodness, he just uploaded like eight more tracks in the past 20 minutes. Snoop Dogg, what are you up to over there? Is this a livestream of your life? Whatever, I dig it. His SC is about to blow up like the puppy cam.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Mystikal, Los

I shared this track a couple months back when it first dropped, trying to grip the fact that Mystikal was actually making a comeback with a new deal from Cash Money.  There are certain rappers voices that just get your adrenaline pumping, Mystikal is one of them.  Cue the Lil Wayne snowboard boots and plastic guitar with the Birdman billion dollar rhymes, this is an official CMB showcase.

Los comes back shooting with his second freestyle of the past 5 days.  This time going in over Young Jeezy’s “I Do”, Swagga Boy gives the fans something, just because he can.  Now if MGK would take a page from Los’ book and release some new music, Diddy may find some assurance in his Cleveland investment.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Los, Chris Brown, Chris Webby

Posted by on March 9, 2012

Bad Boy’s newest signee, Los, see’s how his Rollie stacks up to Coach Combs (above) prior to giving Tyga a run for his money with a new “Rack City” freestyle.  You may know I’m somewhat indifferent towards Tyga up to this point and despite having a chart topping single and selling approximately 100,000 copies of his debut album, Careless World,  in the first two weeks (…with features from Pharrell, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne, T-Pain, J. Cole, Busta Rhymes, Big Sean, Chris Brown, Wynter Gordon, & more) he still hasn’t proven himself to me.  In my opinion, the “Rack City” beat could have sold itself.  Yeah, Tyga’s version is catchy and original, but Los kills freestyles.  This is not the first time, it’s just what he does.  I’m swaying towards Los’ version at this time.

New Breezy.  I’d guess this will be another track featured on “Fortune” which is set to hit shelves May 8th.  Drumma Boy on the beat.

Hip-Hop’s favorite grammatically gifted gamer released the first single titled “Bowser” off his next mixtape, which remains untitled at this point.  Webby relates himself and his career to that of Mario’s well known arch nemesis, Bowser, the villain leader of the the Koopas.  I suppose if you’re going to compare your skin to any Mario character, Bowser would be the best bet.
