Dubstep, Electro, Trance | Seven Lions with Myon & Shane 54 Ft. Tove Lo – Strangers
Posted by J-Tiffy on August 25, 2013
Seven Lions fans, rejoice! My eyes light up whenever I see Seven Lions’ name, and if you’re like me, you’ll be itching to dig into this tune if you haven’t already. He tackles this project with vocalist Tove Lo and house/trance production duo Myon and Shane 54. The song is part of the original motion picture soundtrack for Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. It is an immensely ambitious track, even for a revolutionary artist like Seven Lions. Not only does it combine his signature cocktail of trance and dubstep, but we can hear a lot of house elements in the mix and, more interestingly, a heavy reliance on a gnarly minimal electro drop.
Albums, Progressive House, Review, Trance | BT – A Song Across Wires (Album Review)
Posted by Middy on August 22, 2013
BT is not a producer you can put in a box and say he is trance or ambient or glitch, he is all of those things and so much more, so much more. He is one of the pillars of trance with his album “Ima” back in 1994 that helped shape the trance sound that become what so many love and yearn for today. As a classically trained musician, getting his degree from Berklee College of Music, BT when he isn’t producing some of the most critically acclaimed pieces of electronic music, he is scoring movies like Monsters Inc and Fast & Furious (just the first one). His pieces take you on musical journeys, notably his more ambient stuff, like “This Binary Universe”. He is also a great programmer and computer geek that led him to develop the stutter edit that is being used by everybody, and I mean everybody.
One cannot praise BT enough because he does it the right way, has worked incredibly hard to get where he is today, and did not get it cheap, in one case had to sell his car to finish the full project for “This Binary Universe” (2006). He is also a great guy (we got to sit down with him for an interview, coming soon) and he is brilliant.
His 9th artist album is strong departure from the rest of his material, going strictly for music that is accessible in clubs and festivals. It is interesting to hear his interpretation on modern dance music because of BT’s background in music and his strength in composition. With much of mainstream dance music becoming stale, an innovator like BT trying his hat at a more danceable sound is a relief because you know it will be something new and hopefully inspiring to others.
Dubstep, Electronic, Trance | Andrew Bayer – Need Your Love / England / Detuned
Posted by Middy on August 21, 2013
One of the most musical and compositionally gifted producers in dance music now, Andrew Bayer has served up a three track EP for your ear drums and they are delighted. “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave“, remains my favorite album this year and one of the most popular selections “Need Your Love”, got a club mix to translate its beauty to the club setting, which it did without losing any of the original elegance. “England” was the gem of “Anjunabeats Volume 10“, and now we have the full copy in all of its glory. First premiered at TATW 450 in Bangalore, “Detuned” is a glitchy, dubstep track that shows departure from what we normally get from Bayer, but still remains true to his sound.
Trance | Tom Swoon ft Taylr Renee – Wings (Myon & Shane 54 Summer Of Love Mix)
Posted by Middy on August 10, 2013
There is a lot to love about summer. Free time (hopefully), warm weather, beaches, pool parties, sun dresses and general lack of clothing, cold beer, freedom and last, but certainly not least, Myon & Shane 54 Summer of Love remixes. Their summer-tipped remixes make them some of the hottest in demand artists this time of the year, with guys (and gals) like BT, Markus Schulz and Lana Del Rey all calling upon their talents. Tom Swoon and Ultra managed to swoon them as well (couldn’t help it), to take his good original and make it great, giving it serious replay value.

Preview, Trance | BT, Orjan Nilsen & Dash Berlin Release Album Previews
Posted by Middy on August 5, 2013
BT has been one of the most prolific trance (though his sound has evolved) producers over the past 10-15 years, not only making music for others (Paul Oakenfold is one name) and collaborating with countless artists, but also releasing 8 full length albums. “A Song Across The Wire” is his 9th album, where we see some of his latest singles and his progressive trance sound, but also a venture into dubstep. It will be released August 16th. Pre-order on iTunes or at Armada shop.
Orjan Nilsen has been a staple of the trance scene for years now, releasing some of the biggest tracks in trance. His album wlll try and take his ability to make monster singles and create one cohesive journey that trance is so adept at doing. It will be released August 30th, 2 weeks after BT’s album. Pre-order on iTunes at Armada shop.
Ok, the Dash Berlin album preview is a bit misleading because he is just releasing a deluxe edition of #musicislife, but there is a whole second CD filled with mostly new remixes, 2 new singles (though one was recently released) and some live video. The deluxe version will be released August 23rd, one week after BT’s album so get ready for some outstanding trance on Fridays this month. Pre-order on iTunes or at Armada shop. Previews and tracklistings for each of the albums is after the jump.
House, Mix, Trance | Select Tomorrowland 2013 Sets
Posted by Middy on August 1, 2013
Tomorrowland has come and gone. It is still with all of those who were there and they would probably do anything to go back. Luckily for those who were there and those who weren’t, Tomorrowland caught it all on camera and on radio to help us relive it. Here are a few select sets that help exemplify the madness that went down in Boom. More after the jump.
Trance | Andy Duguid & Audrey Gallagher – In This Moment
Posted by Middy on July 24, 2013
While other labels like Armada and Anjunabeats have evolved and expanded their sounds to include the many variations of trance, Black Hole Recordings has been one of the few label strongholds for the traditional trance sound. The latest offering from the label comes from Scotsman Andy Duguid, who tabs noted trance vocalist Audrey Gallagher to provide an etheral top line for this track. The BPM is not going to crush you into a wall like a John O’Callahan track, but the uplifting qualities are more than present with fast moving key play, a euphoric melody and matching vocals. Yes there is the opening cymbal from “Levels” in there, so don’t despair, but rather just listen to the whole track and you will see why.
