Trance | Trance Tuesdays

Posted by on July 17, 2012

Trance Family, we are back. It has been too long since I have done a Trance Tuesday post and I will make it up to you with songs that many of you trance addicts probably already have, but these are must haves for your library anyway. It took a hiatus with us going legit, but this section just had to come back and though it may not be weekly, trance will be here to stay at FNT. This post will be massive so be sure to hit check out the full post for some free tracks. Also will be a part with a few lesser known songs from the past couple months that may have slipped under the radar in your search for the best trance around.

Let’s start things off with some remixes of Armin van Buuren tracks “Suddenly Summer” and “J’ai Envie De Toi”. Argentinian duo, Heatbeat and California duo Norin & Rad (whom you will be seeing at Electric Zoo) bring their styles to this incredible vocal track from the legend himself. Heatbeat brings their hard, high energy, electro trance style to the remix, while Norin & Rad are more delicate with their approach to the synth work and the builds, though they do add a bite to it, much like Heatbeat.

Armin just released the remixes for his massive single under his Gaia moniker “J’ai Envie de Toi” with the rising star Tom Fall making the premier remix on the package, supported by Armin himself and played out at events such as EDC LV. While there is still something special about what Armin does with the original in all its trancey goodness, Tom Fall makes this song something that would force even the biggest trance purist to start dancing. Protoculture puts a more traditional trance spin on the track, slowing it down just a tad and mixing up the melody a bit.

Progressive House, Trance | Marcus Schossow ft Matias Lehtola – Who You Are

Posted by on July 17, 2012

Marcus Schossow is a rising Swedish trance and house DJ / producer who has become one of the go to names for heavyweight trance and progressive DJs with his ability to blur the line of genre, while still being able create more traditional tracks as well. He crosses over those lines perfectly in this track with a trancey opening that transforms itself with the help of emotional vocals from Matias Lehtola into an uplifting track of high powered synth chords and a pulsing bass line. The production on this is flawless and the ability to blend genres is impeccable on this track.

Dubstep, Trance | Cherry Cherry Boom Boom – Come Back From San Francisco (Rameses B Instrumental Remix)

Rameses B occupies a special niche of sound, and consistently stays providing that which my ears love. Reminiscent of late trance submersed in modern dubstep, this track exemplifies a tropical space.

Drum & Bass, House, Trance | Andain – Turn Up The Sound (Remixes Part 2)

Posted by on July 11, 2012

Andain – Turn Up The Sound is a song that lends itself to be remixed with a smooth melody that can be easily manipulated and beautiful vocals from Andain. American Trance legends, Gabriel & Dresden, put together a euphoric trance remix with a quick piercing bass line and an uplifting melody will make you want to just close your eyes and float away. For me I like it better than the Tydi remix, but it is very close. French producer / DJ Tristan Garner adds his flavor to the mix keeping the vocals, while adding a hard chopped electro drop that will satisfy those looking for something heavier. Zetandel gives us a very smooth, relaxed remix hence the “Chillout Remix” with reverbed key play and a subtle bass line. Stratus goes all the way with a drumstep remix of the track with some crunchy synths layers with pitched synths.

Preview, Trance | Zedd Feat. Matthew Koma – Spectrum (Armin Van Buuren Remix) [Preview]

Posted by on July 6, 2012

Well. So much for that Beatport competition.

Armin debuted this yesterday on ASOT (sidenote: did anyone have any idea he even had this thing in the works? Sneaky bastard) and when I learned of this fact I was so overcome with the potential awesomeness of such a musical coupling that I had to excuse myself and think of less exciting things, like Japanese proverbs and the technical science underpinning the Higgs boson. As a matter of fact, those physicists might have gotten it wrong — this remix might actually be the Higgs boson. I don’t know. All I know is that 1) “Spectrum” was already an absolutely incredible song and 2) there’s pretty much no conceiveable way for Matthew Koma’s vocals not to complement Armin’s lush soundscapes wonderfully.

And let’s just say that AVB delivers. He masterfully augments the emotional moments in “Spectrum,” bringing us to blissful crest after blissful crest before shifting seamlessly into pure, feel-good trance. I do love the original, but I’ve always found Zedd’s synths after the drop to feel a bit incongruous and choppy after the smooth, chromatic verse and chorus. This to me is perfection. No word on a release date yet but you’d better believe that I’ll be first in line when it drops.

Preview, Trance | Tom Fall – Irok

Posted by on July 6, 2012

Tom Fall is one the biggest rising names in trance. If there had to be two guys who have truely exploded onto the scene this year, it would have to be him and Heatbeat, the Argentine duo. Tom Fall has been tagged for some of the most illustrious remixes throughout the year and has developed a reputation as a superior trance Dj who is not afraid to try new things. “Irok” is a perfect example of that, incorporating the massive pack that Nicky Romero made famous in “Toulouse” and bringing it into the trance fold with strong electro house influences. It is the type of track that anyone can like and appreciate and because of that Djs of all genres play it from Tritonal to Armin to Hardwell play this regularly and this track consistently gets one of the best reactions in a set. Check out his other stuff on Beatport and his Facebook page below. Also his remix of Armin van Buuren’s anthem “J’ai Envie de Toi” is set to release July 16th so be on the lookout for that; preview after the jump. Also is a great bootleg that uses the vocal bit from Gregori Klosman – Minibar, as well as the anthem of the year “In My Mind” with the above described “Irok”. Very well fused and mixed together.

Dubstep, Electro, Trance | Porter Robinson – Spitfire (Bonus Remixes)

Posted by on July 3, 2012

Team OWSLA coming in hot this morning with a little pre-holiday gift for everyone — a free, bonus remix package for two of the tracks on Porter Robinson’s Spitfire. I’ve been (im)patiently awaiting the release of Lazy Rich’s heavy, energetic remix of “Vandalism” for the past four months, so this was quite a pleasant surprise. Dirtyloud also takes on “Vandalism,” putting a dark and gritty spin on the track by folding in some ferocious synths. Finally, Bjorn Akesson’s unexpectedly pitch-perfect trance reboot of “Spitfire” is lush and haunting and might be the darkhorse best in show. The Swedish up-and-comer deftly builds off of Porter’s chord progressions to create an innovative and tightly-produced remix that sounds utterly fresh and ready for ASOT or TATW. Frankly, it reminds me a lot of “Je Envie De Toi,” which is high praise. Who knew that the glitchy, vaguely sinister “Spitfire” could lend itself so well to trance?
