Alternative | Burial & Four Tet – Nova
Posted by W8 on March 6, 2012
I’m all ears when it comes to music. Sonically, there is nothing I wouldn’t consider worth my ears. I developed a passion for experimental music long ago, and watched it grow into the sensation it is today. When I caught the amount of attention this track was getting I had to take the opportunity to prove just that. Soundcloud wise, this record in one days time has more plays than Avicii’s hit Levels had managed to get in 4 months. If that doesn’t prove the rocketing of experimental music, what could.
Alternative, post-dubstep, experimental, however many labels you wish to name. There will always be artists that act as stubborn children in that their driven to produce what not only blurs the lines of genre but makes it absurd for you to even try and categorize in one. From the likes of Mount Kimbie, Jamie XX, Lapalux, Arthur Russell, Shlohmo and of course Burial and Four Tet, these are just a few of the many talents still left waiting for the masses to catch up with their past.
My public service announcement is as follows: Thanks goes out to the late great Steve Jobs for the creation of the iPod, making music no longer sonically racist in a time when you felt you had to fit into a particular genre like a pair of clothes and not dare dabble in any others. And thanks to the makers of Soundcloud for broadening our view of music into the sonic playground it is today. Records like Nova say more than words ever will, take a listen.

Dubstep | Neil Young – Old Man (Sound Remedy Remix)
Posted by W8 on February 29, 2012
Old Man is a classic record that’s enshrined in the memory of us all, for me it was the only record in my dad’s collection that I could appreciate. Originally released in 1972, here we are 40 years later listening to Sound Remedy’s modern day refreshment, paying homage to a record that clearly stood the test of time.
Alternative, Dubstep | The Weeknd – Same Old Song (Dolor Remix)
Posted by W8 on February 24, 2012
Dolor has been a reoccurring thought of mine since his remix of The Weeknd’s track – The Morning way back at the start of last year. Sonically, his production is already in unison with The Weeknd in terms of their both common distate for daylight hours motivating their creative process, it only makes sense to see the two compliment eachother. Dolor’s take on Same Old Song if I could play with your imagination, feels like lurking through the great pyramid alone, as his eerie wind chimes reverberate off the cold and quiet hollow spaces of darkness. Also, as an added bonus, Dolor threw in the instrumental version as well.

Progressive House | Tobi D’Eramo – Grapevine (Original Mix)
Posted by W8 on February 20, 2012
Tobi D’Eramo comes through with yet another record to proclaim his consistency thus far in EDM. Grapevine depicts the soulful voice of Marvin Gaye following an uplifting, energetic melody that motivates you to drop what you’re doing and find the nearest celebration. Be sure to keep tabs on this guy!
Progressive House | Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike & Regi – Momentum (Original Mix)
Posted by W8 on February 15, 2012
We first got a glimpse of Momentum when it premiered at Tomorrowland last year, that just so happens to take place in the homeland of both Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike in Belguim. They, alongside friend and fellow producer Regi have produced a calmly driven, simplistic record full of synths and chords made of bright and cheery noise. The brothers are renown for their usual hard stuff which may give this record mixed opinions, but one thing is for certain – Momentum shines light on their versatility as producers, and let’s our imaginations run rampid as to what may come next of them. No doubt, these brothers know how to party and inherently reflect that in the quality of their production.
Trance | Vinny – Good Luck (Original Mix)

If you decide that walking down this boardwalk ^ is the place you’d rather be, you need not look any further, click play and escape. I’ve been patiently waiting for this track to release since the later part of August ’11, let’s just say the wait was worth the while. Good Luck is without a doubt one of the most spectacular records I’ve heard thus far in my career of hearing, forever to be enshrined in my collection. If you are a fan of this track as I am, please consider Vinny’s long anticipation of this release and support him, buy this record at JunoDownload

Progressive House | Ehrencrona – This Is So Good (Original Mix)
Posted by W8 on February 7, 2012
Ehrencrona is yet another Swede making waves on the scene, now with his release of This Is So Good in the full 320. Living up to its name, one cannot deny the beauty of this energetic melody. It seems as though the better half of EDM is now a descendant of Avicii, and what leads to my next point. Avicii deserves a lot credit for what we as a collective have yet to even know how to commend, he coined a genre of his own, that is happiness. A new feeling emerged in EDM that rippled later into tsunami waves of cheery sounds all thanks to him. Many like myself would say this term Avicii-like-sound is now at its breaking point as being to generically redundant and overly duplicated, but on oh so rare occasions one comes along and does it right. This Is So Good you can get on Beatport.
