Playlists | WARM AIR vol. 1
Posted by mimada on June 21, 2013
When it comes to summertime playlists, it’s a cutthroat battle for the ultimate, all-inclusive and trendiest compilation, so hear me out for a second. Allow me to introduce to you, Warm Air, a three-part series by yours truly that will coincide with the rise and fall of your sweet summer season. I present to you this first installment of my series on the first day of summer, appropriately, in hopes that you might enhance any which way you decide to spend your greatest allowance of sunlight with the shimmering sounds of some of my current favorite artists. This playlist in particular is for the moment you wake up when the possibilities for your day are limitless; the sun is sparkling everywhere from the leaves on the tree to the water in the pool and the hood of your new Bugatti. With a mimosa in one hand and your beach towel in the other, these tracks will inspire and motivate you to carpe the shit out of the diem. But what happens when the sun is hot, the babes are out and you’re ready to play? Stay tuned for volume 2, coming soon to a boombox near you…
Trap | Kanye West – Black Skinhead (Alex Young + Royal’s Horny Remix)
Posted by mimada on June 20, 2013
I had a Twitter revelation the other day that went something along the lines of, oh, “You know you’re old when you can look back on the days when people used to play Kanye West at parties.” But I mean, really, Yeezus is more apt for times like “Take charge and start a riot” than it is “Kickin’ back with the homiez.” However, Alex Young has restored my faith in the fact that I might still be able rock out to Kanye like I used to. This time, rather than at a house party, it’ll be at the front row of one of Alex Young’s shows, which seems more appropriate anyways.
This track is really just an example of the artistic potential that Yeezus presents its listeners with. Looking forward to all the remixes to come.

Electro, Trap | Snakehips – Make It
Posted by mimada on June 10, 2013
Snakehips dropped this track yesterday to “tie us over” as they continue working in the studio on their next single. If this what they scrounged up just to keep us busy then I don’t think my body is ready for what they’re about to release. Guess I’ll just have to get out all my excitement by bumpin’ along to this bad boy (shouldn’t be too hard). I wasn’t sure how to go about describing this to the virgin ear, so after perusing through the comments a little bit I pulled some helpful hints — “massive,” “outer space realness,” and my favorite, “dip swang.” So don’t be fooled by the gentle intro, this song will knock you OUT.
Check it.

Electro, Mix, Trap | Hard Summer Future Stars Mini-Mix #5 feat. Keys N Krates
Posted by mimada on May 30, 2013
Okay woah, I’m just gonna cut to the chase here and say this mix is BANGIN – Keys N Krates is proving themselves as a serious predator in the music game right now. This has got pretty much every track that you need to play at your parties if you ever want anyone to have any sort of fun right here, perfectly transitioning one into the next. Granted, my favorite parts are Keys N Krates original songs, especially I Just Can’t Deny (7:25). And you know, I can’t deny that this will probably be the only thing I listen to for the rest of the weekend.
As you can see, this is the 5th installment of HARD’s Future Stars Mini-Mix Series, which has so far featured Paper Diamond, Jerome LOL & Samo Sound Boy, Green Lantern and Justin Jay. You can check out those sets and many more here (can’t promise they’ll be as good as this one though…!)

Electronic | Penthouse Penthouse – When It’s Hot feat. Djemba Djemba & Mr. Carmack
Posted by mimada on May 30, 2013
Penthouse Penthouse (the band so good they named it twice) dropped a preview of this juicy beat a few weeks ago and I’ve been biting my nails since because I had a feeling it was just too delicious of a sound to only last 1:31 – and bam, was I right! I love all three of the artists at work here; their tracks give me this feeling of being at an A-list infinity pool party surrounded by sexy socialites, top-shelf liquor and finely trimmed hedges. And even if I’m in my friend’s backyard with a kiddie pool, a frisbee and some PBR, I know this jam brings all the swag I need.
Anyway, with the magic touch from Djemba Djemba (doubles again?!) and Mr. Carmack, I’d describe it as Justin Timberlake-esque but with more street cred and less buttons fastened on his shirt. Now sit back and prepare to be swept off your feet because this is only the beginning of your new summer romance.

Events, Review | Kaskade – It’s You, It’s Me Redux Tour
Posted by mimada on May 22, 2013
I’ve finally washed ashore from the sensational tidal wave that was Kaskade’s It’s You, It’s Me Redux Tour. Everything you heard about drowning in sweat, auditory immersion and house deeper than the Mariana Trench was no exaggeration in reference to what I experienced that Tuesday night at his kick off show in Dallas. I’ll do my best to recreate the atmosphere (hehe) from that show but when it comes down to it, you just have to close your eyes in dive into the music yourself. Conveniently, I’ve provided the San Diego set in it’s entirety for your listening pleasure so all you need to do is press play and come with me on my journey to the most intimate underground electronic show you’ve only seen in your wildest dreams.
Electronic, Trap | King Henry – Dayman (Demo)
Posted by mimada on May 22, 2013
Well, top of the morning to all you champions of the sun out there on this fine Wednesday. My late night prowling led me to discover the sexy sounds of the revered King Henry and I’d be delighted to share my findings with you. This LA-based producer takes on current trends in music and turns them completely inside out in this awesome, enriching and totally satisfying manner. It’s a little trillwave mixed with trap and bouncin’ beats, one song he even identifies as “comic trap.” It’s the kind of stuff you can put on at parties to intrigue//impress all your friends, or just chill out and listen to in the comfort of your own bed. It’s versatile, it’s groovy, and it’s rad. I pulled a couple songs that might lure you in, Dayman in particular being my favorite. If you think it’s good, just wait till the final drop at the end of the song and then you’ll realize this King Henry isn’t jousting — er, joking around.
Check out King Henry on Soundcloud and social media for more, and you can download his first album at a name-your-price cost from Bandcamp.
