Progressive House | Sevag – The Heat
Posted by Middy on July 28, 2014
I saw Sevag open for Henrix & Wayne & Woods last fall and in talking to Henrix, he could not sing high enough praises for Sevag. Now close to a year later, the two of them have two collabs set for release soon, and Sevag has also become a favorite of Thomas Gold, opening for him at his Fanfare 100 event at Le Bain in NYC, as well earning a slot on Governor’s Island this weekend. His first single on Cr2 Records, “The Heat” brings exactly what it claims to do with in your face, tribal percussion that is both groovy and powerful. Grab the tune below and get ready for much more Sevag.

House, Trance | Weekend Mixes 7/24/14
Posted by Middy on July 24, 2014
I used to these a lot, but life got in the way of me continuing these, but I am back to provide your weekend soundtrack of mixes and sets. Since the weekend starts on Thursdays during the summer (and for many, year-round), I decided to get these to you now so you get going on your way tonight. It will be a mix short on mixes, but high on the quality, highlighted by two from Kristain Nairn, aka Hodor. The Steve Aoki mix is actually kind of dope, there wouldn’t be any cakes thrown to those tunes. Read on for the rest of the mixes.
Trap | Riff Raff – How To Be The Man (Meaux Green Remix)
Posted by Middy on July 24, 2014
It is fitting that a man who wears a copious amount of money on his accessories is remixed by a man who’s name tells the story about his affinity for green. Meaux Green does what he does best, speed this one up with some blaring horns over a tough and punchy bass line. He leaves just enough of Riff Raff for you to get your sage advice on how to be the man, but leaves the room to let his own handiwork shine through. It’s a freebee so get it now.

Progressive House | Tom Staar & Ansolo – Totem
Posted by Middy on July 22, 2014
I told you the story of Ansolo and FNT in my last post so it is incredible to see him with his mentor Tom Staar releasing a tune on one of the most prestigious dance labels around, Size Records. We have seen a return to the bounce in dance music, not just what Melbourne has been doing for quite some time that is making waves across the world, but also groovier bass lines finding their way back into big time dance music. This tune has it all with an irresistible low end and a surprisingly soothing melody all wrapped up with strong tribal influences. It has already hit number 10 on the iTunes dance chart, so grab “Totem” below.
Events | Electric Zoo Announces Sunday School Vinyl Only Stage
Posted by Middy on July 22, 2014
This is an announcement for everyone who was born before 1984 and actually listened to vinyls before they became cool. E Zoo is bringing the second half of the Sunday School experience, the Vinyl Only Stage which they inaugurated at Mysteryland, to NYC for the 6th edition of the festival. The expansion of Sunday School follows the trend of the strengthening underground and a growing popularity for house, tech and techno in the past few years. Each day will be hosted by a different purveyor of the plastic, with Behrouz on Friday, Frank & Tony on Saturday and the legend Josh Wink on Sunday. If you want to hear some crisp, clean vinyl, head to the 6th stage for the 6th year anniversary this Labor Day. Tickets are still on sale so grab them here.
Progressive House | Danzfolk – Cheyenne Indians
Posted by Middy on July 21, 2014
You know when you are listening to a song and you don’t really know what it is, but you are bobbing your head and grooving along anyway? I hit play on this bad boy, went to different tab and with the memory of a goldfish, totally forgot what I was listening to, but had the same reaction I always do with Danzfolk. The second installment of their “Sandcreek Massacre” series, the duo do it again with another big, bouncy, cinematic tune. Below is the story that is the backdrop for the track, which you can grab for free now.
In 1864, Colonel John Chivington and the Colorado Cavalry massacred the Cheyenne Indians at Sand Creek, Colorado. The causes of the massacre were rooted in the long conflict for control of the Great Plains. During the Civil War, tension began to rise and sporadic violence broke out between Anglos and the Native Americans. After meeting to forge a new peace treaty, the Colorado Cavalry, in what can only be considered an act of treachery, brutally attacked the unsuspecting Cheyenne Indians. Hundreds of men, women and children were murdered, and the village was set on fire. This song tells the story of the brave indians who fought to defend their sacred land.
