Dubstep, Electronic | Crywolf – Ghosts EP
Posted by Mel on April 10, 2013
Aside from the rather lackluster Brazzers update, today was a pretty good day. Not only did my mom buy me Abercrombie cologne for some reason, but Crywolf’s new EP finally dropped. I should preface this by saying I am not a huge fan of dubstep. In fact, the last dubstep song I remember downloading was two years ago and it was from the master of dubstep, the one true god, Skrillex. Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites was it. Now just because I don’t download any doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate a good dubstep song. Luckily though, Crywolf’s EP spans multiple genres which range from dubstep to chill electronic. Justin Phillips, aka Crywolf, does his own vocals which for me is the highlight of the EP. My favorite track is easily “Ghosts”, primarily because his vocals are really put on display here and is complimented perfectly by a chill instrumental. “The Moon Is Falling Down” and “The Home We Made Pt. II” are available as free downloads on his Facebook. Be sure to grab the rest of the EP on iTunes.

Progressive House | Temper Traps – Trembling Hands (Stereoshock Lonely City Remix)
Posted by Mel on April 7, 2013
It’s been a while since we’ve heard something new from Stereoshock but today he made the wait worth while. The song “Trembling Hands” by The Temper Trap has had its fair share of remixes so I was admittedly nervous clicking play on this because there have been some great ones. Stereoshock blew me away with his rendition. He sets the perfect atmosphere with orchestral strings and city sounds as well as a combination of slow piano work and quick, catchy key play, before hitting the percussive build aided with the emotive vocals, and then finally climaxing into a truly cinematic, big room drop. Stereoshock has come a long way since his early days doing edits. His production skills are now just superb. I’m excited for what he has in store for us in the future.

Progressive House | Dzeko & Torres vs Sarah Mcleod – Hurricane
Posted by Mel on April 2, 2013
After venturing off a bit into the grittier electro stuff, Dzeko & Torres return to their early progressive roots with their latest single. “Hurricane” grabs your attention with the superb vocals of Sarah McLeod before it hits you with its catchy rolling melody that takes you through the build and into the drop. Check out the radio edit below as well as the extended mix on Beatport.
Progressive House | Daughter – Medicine (The Chainsmokers Remix)

I won’t lie, there are certain songs that make me tear up. Just kidding there isn’t. Though there are songs that make me slow down and think about things. Is this song one of them? Perhaps. A year from now when I listen to this i’ll have plenty of things to ponder upon. Were The Chainsmokers actually orphans? Why do they start every message with a series of “haha’s”? And most importantly of all, why did they call me fat? Some things I’ll never know. Maybe in time when I look back and reminisce on our complicated relationship things will become clear, but for now i’m just going to go listen to this emotional indie house track… and cry.

Progressive House | Infinite Sole – Hurricane (feat. Raycee & Mills)
Posted by Mel on April 1, 2013
Producing duo Joshua Gilbert and Jose Puente, known together as Infinite Sole are new names to me but they sure made a good first impression. The duo’s first original “Hurricane” is spectacular. The track starts off with an atmospheric pad and slow piano guiding the excellent vocals of Raycee & Mills before hitting a huge build and an energy packed drop. If you like what you hear then prepare yourself because they have another original coming soon.

Progressive House | One Republic – If I Lose Myself (Marcus Santoro Remix)
Posted by Mel on March 24, 2013
There will obviously be comparisons made to Alesso’s remix of this track which is quite possibly the only downside to when a titan of a producer touches a track. Even with other great remixes, it’ll be hard to top that of a producer as skilled as Alesso. Except Alesso’s remix isn’t out yet. Marcus Santoro has put his own progressive spin on One Republic’s lead single that will be sure to keep you satisfied at least until Alesso’s drops on April 2nd.
Electro-House, Progressive House | Lift Off #010
Posted by Mel on March 23, 2013
Many things are changing now that spring is upon us. Girls are going to start wearing more revealing clothing, the weather is going to transition from cold to slightly less cold (I live in Canada), and Lift Off is no longer monthly. From now on, Lift Off will go up weekly on Saturdays, primarily because we didn’t like how the tracks we posted would end up being weeks old. This way, every track that goes up will be no older than a week. It will also mean that there won’t be as many songs on each edition as there were previously, though we feel this is an acceptable sacrifice for more up to date tracks. We start things off above with Reuben Keeney’s “Good times together” which is carried by a Kaskade like piano and soft vocals before hitting a progressive drop.

Candyland released an EP in honor of their Miami debut at WMC. My favorite track of the EP is their festival remix of Timeflies’ “Nothing At All”.
The Plastic People remix of the Imagine Dragons “It’s Time” was my favorite song for quite a while. Markus Cole does a magnificent job of giving the song a progressive refresh that brought the indie-rock song back to life.
No uplifting chords or melodies to be found here, Kevin Drew’s latest “Halogen” is just a massive big room track.
