Mix | Tchami – Diplo & Friends
Posted by BIGLIFE on November 25, 2014
I like Tchami. I think he’s a force to be reckoned with and a serious breathe of fresh air for the dance community. Many don’t know that’s been producing for a while, and has co-production credits (along with DJ Snake) on “Turn Down For What” and Lady Gaga’s “Do What You Want” record. That’s no joke kids. You don’t produce those records without serious connections and proven production prowess.
I pump Tchami’s tires to say this: I wasn’t a big fan of this mix. My expectations are so high for this guy that it just didn’t live up to what I expected given his previous mixes, which were all gold. His DAD mix? Gold. His Thump mix? 24 Karat. Social Club in Paris? Cash for Gold. It doesn’t matter what I think. I’ll let our readers decide. Did this mix do it for you?
Be sure to catch Tchami on his European tour fall run. Details here.
House | Tiesto Ft. DBX – Light Years Away (Oliver Heldens Remix)
Posted by BIGLIFE on November 25, 2014
I despise anything Tiesto releases. I won’t listen to it on principle because it’s usually progressive house wanna be cross-over top 40 garbage. Tiesto has long given his soul to the major label machine which I contend has slowly chipped away at his credibility. The major label machine doesn’t understand the dance space and has steered him largely in the wrong direction. Fortunately for Tiesto, Oliver Heldens transports “Light Years Away” into another galaxy, incorporating melodic sounds and much needed groovy basslines. Oliver Heldens is the only reason I’m even entertaining this song. It’s a departure from his signature square wave future house bass sound but I’m not against it. You can’t fault an artist for trying something new. Oliver Heldens. So hot right now. Oliver Heldens. Niiiiice.
House | Redondo & Boiler – Sunshine
Posted by BIGLIFE on November 24, 2014
Is the video cliche? Yes. Does it feature sexual innuendo meant to sucker in the casual listener? Yes. Is this track a big ole’ tune? You’re damn right. Redondo & Boiler have been teasing us with previews (where it first premiered on The Magician’s “Magic Tape” series) and it’s finally out today. There’s no full track post, which is a bit of a disappointment. Understandable though, given the amount of people use Soundcloud to mp3 converters to rip tracks. The track quality isn’t ever the same, but I digress. Support Redondo and Boiler by picking up their latest Spinnin’ Records release. It doesn’t disappoint.

House | Bakermat – Teach Me (Original Mix)
Posted by BIGLIFE on November 24, 2014
Since we heard Bakermat’s “Teach Me” featured on Heldeep Radio we’ve been waiting for the release. The release is finally here, and it’s truly a masterpiece. Sampling Shirley Caesar original “Teach Me Master Bakermat’s reprisal is a gospel house tune of epic proportions. This song makes me want to visit my local southern evangelical church that believes the earth is only 6,000 years old, adorn myself in a velvet robe, and dance in the pulpit while a choir sways back and forth behind me. The vibes are that strong. Be sure to grab the release on Beatport below. Teach me master, teach me. Come on master.

House | Pep & Rash – Fatality (Quintino Edit)
Posted by BIGLIFE on November 24, 2014
This is for all you kids in the chat box with absolutely zero taste in dance music. You know, the one’s who b*tch and moan about there not being enough progressive house slash brostep posted. I’ve pretty much had it with progressive house at this point but Quintino’s edit of Pep & Rash’s “Fatality” is a huge tune. There’s just no getting around it. The video is horrendous, but it doesn’t matter. Spinnin’ Records continues to pump out hit after hit. Incredible really. Pick this up on Beatport below.

Review | Krewella – Say Goodbye
Posted by BIGLIFE on November 23, 2014
I like Krewella. I find them personally and musically appealing. Every single time they’re in Dallas they take a moment to speak with us, which they don’t have to do. They’ve long graduated from this site and there’s not much we can do for them at this point. That said, I hate writing bad reviews. I try to ignore what I don’t like and promote what I do. In this case I have to shoot our readers straight: Krewella’s “Say Goodbye” single is extremely underwhelming. It has very few redeeming qualities and is hard to listen to at times. It sounds like a rejected Evanescence demo with drum and bass produced around it. Frankly, I’m shocked this was even approved for release. They’re under a great deal of pressure (you can read their legal response here) and put this song out to quell some of the backlash. I don’t blame them. I just wish they would have come out of the gates swinging. Releasing a massive tune would have silenced those predicting their demise immediately. I haven’t given up on them just yet.
Let’s wait and see what Krewella have in store for us next.
House | Jessie J ft. 2 Chainz – Burnin’ Up (Don Diablo Remix)
Posted by BIGLIFE on November 22, 2014
I despise major label contracted remixes. There’s something about knowing that an out of touch person at a label grasping for relevancy reaches out to notable (actually cool) producers to remix their mindless top 40 radio smash. Just doesn’t sit well. That said, I’m a forgiving blogger and can read between the lines. Earlier this month Don Diablo dropped his “Burnin’ Up” remix via Casablanca Records. It was featured this morning on Oliver Heldens latest “Heldeep Radio” episode, and rightfully so.
This “Burnin’ Up” remix is indeed fire. Hats off to Don Diablo for bringing the heat.
