Being one of the twerk originators, what are your thoughts on this sudden twerk revival that has taken the mainstream world by storm?
I really had no idea that twerk would make the comeback that it has. For me, twerking is stripper dance moves that are done outside the strip club by non strippers. Having said that, I never thought mainstream would touch it.
What are your thoughts on EDM music being heavily influenced from trap music, and what can we expect from Mr Colliparks next?
The trap sound is simply southern production with technology added on top. We couldn’t do on an MPC what you can do in Ableton or Fruity Loops. So definitely it has changed the way I produce. The hardware is out, the software is in! In addition to my new single NO DISCRIMINATION I just co produced an edm twerk track with Mayhem out of Atlanta called Buss and one with Waka Flock Flame. I have a collaboration with Dirty Audio and Ying Yang Twins coming soon called “Reverse”. And I’m working with a crew out of Atlanta, Robotic Beatbox, on a project where edm meets Boom Bap. That single is called Move It Like Beyonce feat. Cutty Ranks. I’m gettin busy!
What advice would you give to all of the up and coming rappers and producers from down South who don’t live near the big cities like Atlanta or New York?
You don’t need a label anymore so where you’re from isn’t as important as it used to be. I think people who still buy music and support talent really care about originality and individualism. There has never been a better time to just “DO YOU”!
