James Egbert – Legion (Original Mix) & In The Beginning EP
Posted by Spice on May 30, 2012
I hadn’t heard of 24 year-old James Egbert prior to tonight but was almost immediately happy that I did. The young producer has already managed to cultivate a formidable mastery of the filthier side of electro-house, a feat that is most definitely on display in his newest original mix. “Legion” is a triple threat, if you will, showcasing Egbert’s ability to combine catchy hooks with heavy synthwork and top quality production. This track is a monster and the drop at 2:47 is pure unadulterated awesomeness — quite possibly one of the best I’ve heard in a while.
Read on to preview his recent EP, “In The Beginning,” which brings more banging electro-house, excellent vocal tracks, and some gritty dubstep that still features great melodies.
Must listen: “Milky Way Wars.” Brittany Egbert’s chromatic vocals play fantastically against the track’s glitchy backdrop. This one is an instant favorite. “Light Up The Stars” is a close second, however — this is electro-house at its best, and the almost robotic cadence Egbert lends to Laura Brehm’s vocals give the track an interesting and unexpected dynamic.
