Albums | Skrillex – Leaving EP
Posted by Spice on January 3, 2013
For those of you who have been lamenting the lack of new Sonny Moore material in recent months, the wait is now over: we’ve got a brand spankin’ new EP from The Little Guy to blast, compare to his past productions, and generally over analyze (“But why doesn’t this sound more like ‘Reptile?’ Ugh, I hate the direction he’s going in now.”) The only catch? To download it, you have to sign up for The Nest, OWSLA’s recently announced digital subscription service that gives you access to early downloads, VIPs, unreleased material, and much more from Team OWSLA.
The EP itself is short but quite diverse. It opens on its most high energy note with “The Reason,” a hard and catchy four minutes of electro house that make heavy use of those trademark choppy vocals. We also get a funky, midtempo trap-influenced breakdown — since trap is officially the most ubiquitous thing happening in electronic music at the moment. From there, it’s onto “Scary Bolly Dub,” a dub reboot of “Scary Monsters” which will be immediately familiar to anyone who’s caught Skrillex live in the past few months. Finally, the title track, which is restrained, darkly melodic, and downtempo; thanks to garage-influenced breakbeats, it’s illustrative of Skrillex’s range as a producer. Yes, to gain access to this EP you must take on the monthly subscription fee to The Nest, but if you’re a serious fan of OWSLA’s work it will be a small price to pay.

Trap | Tommy Trash – Trapple Pig (NYMZ Mix)
Posted by Sev on December 9, 2012
If you are into a good trapped out house remix, then you are looking at the right post. NYMZ ,(1/2 of Milo and Otis) and part of DEFEP, just released this funky bass filled trap remix to Tommy Trash’s Truffle Pig giving it his own little spin and naming it Trapple Pig, which I thought was pretty clever. Keeping the nice disco house theme while adding his own trap drum kit to spice up this track and give it the bass it was missing.
House | A-Trak – Tuna Melt EP
Posted by Middy on December 4, 2012
A-Trak is known as one of the best DJs in the world and will wow you with his incredible live sets that take on the same eclectic characteristics of his own productions. The man is very busy not only as head of Fools Gold, but also with a Duck Sauce album on the way at the beginning of next year, his solo work that are on display here in this 4 track EP, all on top of his incessant touring schedule. The EP covers all sorts of ground from the grungy, choppy title track with Tommy Trash, “Tuna Melt”, to the bouncy, trap infused “Landline” with GTA, the aptly named “Jumbo” with Galantis and the glitchy, nu-disco “Disco Nap” with Oliver.

Drum & Bass, Dubstep, Trap | Dirtyphonics – DIRTY
Posted by Sev on November 3, 2012
Dirtyphonics latest single Dirty released last week with some exciting remixes alongside the original from 12th planet, Metrik, Darth & Vader, and Nicolas Malinowsky . The original is already a high energy track with the monstrous Dirtyphonics style, bass filled drop, but the remixes provide some different perspectives to the heavy original. 12th planet provides a trap style remix that he has been incorporating within his tracks as of late with Nicolas Malinowsky contributing some trap as well. Metrik brings his usual fast paced DnB style to turn this track up and increase the energy even more. Darth & Vader’s remix portrays their heavy Electro-House style and a more uplifting feel to the track with their own melodies incorporated. Grab this track along with the remixes off of Beatport HERE.
Trap | Clockwork – Titan (Coyote Kisses Remix)
Posted by Juicebox on September 16, 2012
Our boys over at Coyote Kisses don’t always make trap music, but when they do, they win contests & break records. They didn’t actually break any records, but they definitely just won Mad Decent’s remix contest of Clockwork’s Titan! For those of you who don’t know, Clockwork also goes by the alias RL Grime…the genius who produced Kanye West’s “Mercy.” The duo wanted to emphasize that while they switched up the style for this remix, they will not be going “trap” with their future releases. Make sure you keep these guys on your radar, they’ve got a bright future ahead of them.
Trap | D!RTY AUD!O ft.Nikkimarie – Drop That Ass (Original Mix)
Posted by Sev on September 14, 2012
FNT recurring artist D!RTY AUD!O has released another fun filled trap original this week already featured in UZ’s UKF mix. Although trap has slowly brought the decline of Moombahton (which saddens me), this track has a nice catchy feel to it, but I just can’t put my finger on exactly what it is. You won’t catch me posting too much trap just because I can barely stand it with all the influx of it, but this one was able to make it to my favorites so download and enjoy.
Trap | Bro Safari – That A$$
Posted by Spice on September 13, 2012
Bro Safari is back with another big free download for his fans, this time bringing us some bouncy trap that’s tailor-made for a 12th Planet liveset, that house party you were thinking of throwing this weekend, or your car’s speakers when you’re whippin it with the windows down and want to let the world know what’s good. Yes, everyone is all over trap right now (undoubtedly to the endless amusement of the hip hop community, which has been pumping out trap since 1873), but there’s no denying that when it’s good it gets the vibes flowing like nothing else.
