House | Volta Bureau – Alley Cat

Alley Cat was one my first exposures to Indie Dance/Nu Disco, a sub-genre of EDM which utilizes elements from Disco and House. Combining a sick piano riff with a great underlying melody, Volta Bureau did work on this track.

I’d usually write something insanely witty and thoughtful, but this Cardinals win has me at a loss. I’m not even sure that the Rangers can come back from something like that. I’ll get off my soap box. This song is absolutely disgusting. First Lotus Flower Bomb, then Best Night Ever, and now this. Ever since Wale pledged allegiance to the Maybach, he’s flourished under Rozay’s guidance. It’s impressive. A few years ago, he was putting out sub-par singles with Lady Gaga. Now, he’s dripping swag-goo. I’m officially a Wale fan.

Dubstep | Benny Benassi – Come Fly Away (Dash Total’D Remix)

UNREAL Soft-core dubstep track. If you’re new to FNT (and there are lots of you so don’t feel shy about asking questions), soft core dubstep is what I like to refer to as vocal, easy on the ear, dubstep. Sure you have a few whomps here and there, but they won’t make your ears bleed. This is typically the only style you’ll see me post, I leave the rest up to Mach. This wonderful track embodies this “soft core” sub genre.

Mashups | DJ Trademark – Sunset Season

Several mashup sub-genres are emerging as this type of music becomes increasingly more popular and artists are forced to innovate to compete. Originally, you had your classic 1 v 1 mashers who just needed to be able to put things together like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Nowadays, more and more artists are cooking up In N Out burger double doubles, 3 by 3s, and 4 by 4s. We’ve reached a point where choosing toppings makes or breaks a project. On one hand you have the artist who likes to completely flip the sound of a song by blending two unlike tracks together. These are normally “chill” and “neat” songs but sometimes they leave a little to be desired. On the other hand, we have artists like DJ Trademark who time and time again, hit us with mashup BANGERS that redefine the way we listen to our favorite top 40 tracks. And to spice things up even more, he even puts together mashup visuals so he’s stimulating both your eyes and ears. Watch out everyone, DJ Trademark will be taking this fall by storm.

Electro | M83 vs. Big Black Delta, Passion Pit, & Savoy | Electro

This track has the most epic sound to it. I feel like the US team should run out into the stadium for the next Olympics to this. Good Daft Punk Tron track turned into greatness.

Passion Pit is just great at what they do. I was happy to see that they were the ones to make the first good remix of the new Beastie Boys track.

DARKROOM

Darkroom is a new, fast rising sub-genre of electro, although many have never heard the name before. It is a blend of electro and dubstep but maintaining a very strong electro beat. Savoy is silently dominating this sub-genre not so quitely. His tracks are hard, heavy, and amazing. Besides those great things Savoy is bringing back laser shows, nice.
