Progressive House | Snow Patrol – Open Your Eyes (Karboncopy’s Festival Bootleg)

Snow Patrol - Open Your Eyes (Karboncopy's Festival Bootleg)

My affinity for Australian producers runs deep and wide with Marcus Santoro, probably the only Australian producer I consistently post. That is not to say that he is my favorite however, although he most definitely is, but the Adelaidean duo Karboncopy are also a pair of guys I am always keeping an eye on. In early 2012, roughly two years and 69 days ago to be exact, they released a remix of Rihanna’s “You Da One”. I was young and stupid at the time – nothing has really changed I suppose – but for some reason that song struck a chord with me. That song, along with the Swedish House Mafia remix of “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall”, are the two songs that made me fall in love with the genre.

Not really sure why I shared that with you guys. Probably cause I’m lonely. Onto the important stuff though! Karboncopy’s official remix for “Collide” was a hit and, in my opinion, better than the original. After a string of official releases, they have returned back to their free, track giving away days in the form of a remix to Snow Patrol’s “Open Your Eyes”. The quality of their productions has come a long way since their first remix and they are only getting better with each release.

Melbourne Bounce | The Chainsmokers – #SELFIE

Posted by on January 29, 2014

At long last, the first original label release by The Chainsmokers is finally out. What started as a joke for one of their shows in December, eventually became what it is now. “#Selfie” is a melbourne bounce track that is very unique because it features a girl talking about stuff, stupid stuff. It’s hilarious. Only kind of though but it is clear who this song was made for, and that would be middle aged urban males. Or young white girls. The song is quite the departure from their typical style and even though it is a little gimmicky, it’s also an entertaining song with a pretty good drop. As you can probably guess, the music video consists of a whole lot of fan submitted selfies as well as the girl narrating as she gets ready or something. The girl actually looks exactly like I imagined she would from her voice, perfect. Just kidding she’s alright (8?/10). If you care enough to do so, I’m sure they would appreciate you purchasing the track on iTunes.

Pop, Review | An In depth Review of Alison Gold’s “Chinese Food”

Posted by on October 15, 2013

It is not often a pop song strikes me in such a way that I can’t stop playing it or thinking about it. The last time it happened was a couple years ago with what will forever and always be my favorite song, “Payphone” by Maroon 5. I loved it upon first listen, but then one fateful night my adoration for it got intensified in a very big way. I was 17 years old and at a house party. I had my favorite snapback on backwards and was leaning against the wall drinking a diet Dr Pepper when I saw a guy and a girl leave the couch they were on to go upstairs together for some reason, so I made my move and snagged a seat on the couch. I was just chillen there on the couch… by myself… like always… when a girl came over and sat next to me. She said “heyy”, I said “sup”. “Why aren’t you drinking a beer” she asked. “Not a huge fan of the taste” I replied. She then handed me hers, urging me to try it. I did of course because that’s practically kissing which is practically dating which was a big deal for me at the time. “It’s alright I guess” I said as I handed it back to her. Now I don’t know whether or not it was by accident, but the series of events that followed were the without a doubt the highlight of my senior year.

She just looked at me and smiled. She did that for like 20 seconds. When she sat down she sat extremely close to me, our legs were practically touching, it was actually quite rude of her. She then got up and as she was doing so her hand touched my arm and part of my upper thigh region. It was also at that exact moment that “Payphone” came on. I sat there in a state of euphoria until the song finished. She was also wearing flip flops so it was especially hot. I wasn’t quite sure if what had just gone down had in fact gone down but I looked across the room and the Australian guy who kissed me on the cheek against my will in the second grade was standing there watching and he confirmed with a series of head nods that it did.

I never thought my love for Maroon 5’s “Payphone” could be matched, but then I heard this. Press play, watch the video and I can only hope you experience the high that Alison Gold’s “Chinese Food” gave me. Once you check it out, click past the break to read my in depth review of perhaps the greatest pop song to come out all year.

Chill, Compilation, Indie | Teen Daze – Lost Songs (30 track compilation)

I am well aware that progressive house has become generic, overplayed, mainstream, and incredibly formulaic (also stupid and fat), but I still love it. With that said, I also really enjoy slower, chill sounds. Songs that you can play while knitting a sweater for your grandmother or even just while you stand at the stove stirring that damn macaroni and cheese for 8 minutes. Songs like these are very different from house. They also aren’t as mass produced and oversaturated as house is. It is for these reasons that I was very pleased to find Fraser Valley native, Teen Daze giving away 30 of his unfinished, or “lost” songs for free. I have listened to all 30 and, for the most part, they’re all great. I will say though, I’d go with “Lost Songs 3” as my favorite compilation. The download links to the three compilations are below as well as arguably the top songs from each respective pack on Soundcloud, just to give you a taste. If the redundancy of whatever your preferred genre provides has got you looking for a breath of fresh air then this is it.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop, Videos | Mike Stud – Stupid (My Homie’s Still Remix)

Posted by on June 17, 2012

“They told me music was a long shot, I treat it like a free throw”

There is no doubt Mike Stud is a punchline professional and this track is an example of that. He goes absolutely “Stupid” over Weezy’s recent release “My Homies Still”, tearing it apart! He’s been showing the versatility he has by making tracks like this, club bangers such as “Athlete” and songs with a serious message like “Happy Ending” & “Sammy’s Shadow”. Grab the download below and “Go Stupid”!
