“Just wait here, I’ll be back soon and this time, I will the bring lotion”. That’s what she said to me. I waited anxiously in my bed for her return. I had just made the switch from an Abercrombie winter jacket to a rather thin Lacoste hoodie so my confidence was at an all time high. Instead of just staring at cute girls from afar I would now stand about 10 feet back and to the left and pretend to talk to someone on the phone whilst staring at them. Things were going quite well for me you could say. After about an hour she came back with the lotion and put it on my bedside drawer. I said thanks and she left the room. My sister had used the last bit of my  Cocoa Radiant, Vaseline lotion that I use exclusively on my dry hands (though I have tried it on other stuff but I just don’t like using it). I was chillen in Forever 21 by myself when I accidentally slipped and fell on some, what I can only assume was diluted yogurt and scraped my hands pretty badly so without that lotion I couldn’t even make the tip of my index finger touch the tip of my thumb and as all guys know, it’s all over at that point.

That’s what I was doing during the week of July 28th, which was the date of Stereoshock’s last edit. I think you guys can now understand why it lacked a post. The next course of action he took after our interview was releasing a new edit, this time combining Woodkid’s “Run Boy Run” with Tiesto’s remix of “Carried Away”. As with all his edits, he makes the two tracks blend together perfectly. I have also included the edit that I missed, which may be one of my favorite edits of his. Both can be downloaded for free on his Facebook.

April 19th, 2012, the day started just like any other. I had woken up a few minutes later than usual and after doing the math, figured that I would miss about five minutes of my first class. I then decided to skip the whole day and stay home. As per usual when I don’t go to class, I bump it up to twice a day. Two girls were texting me at the time so I was just super busy, the time that had been allocated for me to study and do the work that I was missing was pushed aside in order to make room to mow the lawn, like my dad had asked me to days prior. I didn’t mow the lawn and instead went to Best Buy to get some Beats by Dre Studio’s. I got them, in black for some reason, came home and bumped it up once again to three times a day. After my third Klondike bar of the day, making my bi-hourly visit to Soundcloud seemed like the next obvious choice.

It was then that I became acquainted with 20 year old, New York based producer Stereoshock, or as his mother calls him Josh Cohen. I was eating some leftover chilli at the time and accidentally spilled some on my shirt but it didn’t matter, because the song I was listening to was just so good. It wasn’t an original, but it sure sounded like it. At that point forward I was aware that an edit or mashup could be more than vocals thrown over an instrumental or simply interchanging two songs drops. Stereoshock has a level of sophistication in both his edits and originals that is not seen very often. Over time we’ve become friends, and he expressed interest in an interview, so I obliged. Be warned that this interview is extremely serious. We talk about only the most important topics that other artists refuse to.

Progressive House | Kaskade – Atmosphere (Stereoshock Remix)

A young Australian boy once kissed me on the cheek in the second grade and I just took it. I didn’t know how to react. That moment was a new experience for me and so is every time I listen to a new track from Stereoshock. He is without a doubt one of the most creative and unique producers out there right now. For his latest project he took to remixing Kaskade’s “Atmosphere”, a song that many people adore but not me (“Eyes” is still easily his best track of the last few years). His remix starts off incredibly strong (like my distaste for guys who wear Toms) with one of the best intros I’ve heard in a while. Then the main piano hits and is complimented with the many layers of sounds and effects that is unique to him. The lead melody during the drop is perhaps his best yet. This is another solid outing from him and yet again he leaves me excited for his next track.

Having listened to this song for a few days now, I can tell you that Stereoshock’s productions just keep getting better and better. I was a big fan of his “Trembling Hands” remix and was curious how he’d follow up to it. He did so terrifically with his own spin on Pressure Cooker’s “Only You”. The theme of this remix is a lot different than his previous, however. With the clicking of camera’s, chirping of seagulls, and subtle effects such as the breaking of glass or falling of rain, the summer theme is very apparent and well represented. He said that his goal was to “compliment the emotions of the protagonist with vivid imagery of a summertime romance” and while I don’t know anything about romance, the imagery of summertime is definitely there. Everything about this track from the vocals of Ryan Ellingson to the natural beach sounds is superb. Stereoshock keeps improving and he’ll soon be releasing his first original, which is already shaping up to be great.

Progressive House | United Stormwatch (Stereoshock Official Edit)

In an era where house mashups are quite possibly the worst thing to ever exist, it’s a good thing there are artists such as Stereoshock willing to raise the bar. Stereoshock’s edits, unlike most mashups, combines multiples tracks together in a cohesive way that makes it seem as one individual song. His latest edit does just that. He takes two songs and merges them so flawlessly that you cannot tell you are listening to two different tracks. “United Stormwatch” consists of Swanky Tunes & Hard Rock Sofa’s “United” as well as the Dinka and Chris Reece mix of “Stormwatch”. Watch out because big things are happening for Stereoshock including him signing to NUE Agency and his mom commenting on his Soundcloud about how much she loves his music.

Progressive House | Temper Traps – Trembling Hands (Stereoshock Lonely City Remix)

Posted by on April 7, 2013

It’s been a while since we’ve heard something new from Stereoshock but today he made the wait worth while. The song “Trembling Hands” by The Temper Trap has had its fair share of remixes so I was admittedly nervous clicking play on this because there have been some great ones. Stereoshock blew me away with his rendition. He sets the perfect atmosphere with orchestral strings and city sounds as well as a combination of slow piano work and quick, catchy key play, before hitting the percussive build aided with the emotive vocals, and then finally climaxing into a truly cinematic, big room drop. Stereoshock has come a long way since his early days doing edits. His production skills are now just superb. I’m excited for what he has in store for us in the future.
