In the latest in Silver Medallion’s cover series comes his rendition of Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own”. Taking the instrumental from Fred Falke’s remix of the song and turning the song into his own, Silver Medallion breathes new life into a song that came out two years ago. This cover is probably his best yet and the video is equally great. You can never go wrong with some time-lapse shots especially when they are taken in Dubai. If there are two bastions of political and artistic purity in the world, Silver Medallion says they must be Flo-Rida and Will.I.Am. In his latest cover, he channels them both of them with all their depth into his ode to autotune rap and pop house purity. The accompanying music video features some lost footage from the last two years of Silver Medallion shows, including some from before we lost the other half of Silver Medallion, Carnegie, in a car crash in 2011. With some production from Chi Duly with bits of the original and Silver Medallion’s unique vocals, this latest cover is not one to skip over. The song takes one of his favorite songs of the moment, Rebecca & Fiona’s “Dance”, and chopped it up to make “a tribute to the trust fund girls giving up their parents approval to drink with us heathens in the streets of the Lower East Side” after yearning for the familiarity of New York City life while on tour. Yes, you read that right, Silver Medallion just covered Nicki Minaj’s single “Starships” and the result is 100x better than the original. With production from the acclaimed Chi Duly, Silver Medallion turns the song into his own. Silver Medallion’s vocals give the track a more raw vibe that easily differentiates itself from the poppiness of Nicki Minaj’s original. Teaming up with director Jr Kc, Silver Medallion’s latest video encompasses the “live fast, die young” rockstar mentality of the song. “So I was in Boise, Idaho doing a show with Shwayze, Cisco Adler and Dunson, and had the opportunity to do a music video the night of the show with JR KC. We originally developed a complex plan to showcase one girl turning another to the dark side through drugs and alcohol and the good girls gradual descent too deep into a life she didn’t want to live… But about halfway through shooting the night descended into typical show night chaos and it ended up just becoming a Boise, Idaho party and the video turned into general rockstar mayhem instead. No problems there, this song is called The Young and the Reckless and that’s exactly what we are.” – Silver Medallion
