Hip-Hop, Review | Grubeats’ Top 12 of ’12

Posted by on January 14, 2013

Grubeats; fashionably tardy as always.  I can’t promise I’ve saved the best for last, but hopefully this eclectic mix of tracks tickle’s at least party of your fancy.  I’d enjoy hearing from you in the comments section if you have opinions on any of these songs!

12.) Skizzy Mars – Sirens

This young star didn’t sound my radar until late spring of ’12.  I had heard the name and few scattered verses, but overlooked the true talent Skizzy Mars was bringing to the table until I first heard “Sirens”.  With sounds similar to a young Cudi, Skizzy himself only recently graduated high school and has only begun to lie the brick and mortar for long, prosperous career.

11.) Skrillex & Damian Marley – Make It Bun Dem

As you probably know, I’m not a die heard EDM head like many writers and followers of this site.  No kandi for this kid.  I do however, enjoy just about anything Skrillex lays his hands on.  Couple the addictive production with Damian Marley’s rasta raps and you have pure gold.  If and when hip-hop and EDM cross paths, this is the type of execution I expect. Hip-Hop | Rick Ross ft. Meek Mill- So Sophisticated

Posted by on May 22, 2012

Rawse, you’ve got me worried right now. God Forgives, I Don’t is coming July 31st, and I’m sweating more than you usually sweat in the sauna. I know you’ve always saved your best singles for last, but “Touching You” and “So Sophisticated” aren’t going to get he job done. Ross, I’m as white as it gets, but I love your message, music and spirit. It embodies hard work, and making something out of nothing. I can relate to that.

What I can’t relate to is that you’re not living up to my standards…

DO SOMETHING

Hip-Hop | Rick Ross ft. Wale, Meek Mill, & T-Pain – Bag Of Money

Posted by on March 4, 2012

The big boss, Ricky Ross, is back at it again. This time he’s recruited auto-tune aficionado T-Pain for his first single off his upcoming “Self Made Vol. 2” album. Recently voted “hottest MC” in the world by MTV, Rawse’s star has never shined brighter. Rick Ross, lyrically less technical than his predecessors, proves in this current hip-hop climate, style matters more than substance. His ability to make you feel like a dope king while riding with your watch out the window, however, is a testament to the power of his music. B*tch you wasn’t with him chewing on some ribs. Money over everything. UGHN.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Jay Fresh- Just A Man (Video)

Posted by on December 13, 2011

Conception Crafters is like the Maybach Music of the blog world minus the matching chains and questionable ladyfriends. It’s no secret that Jay Fresh (and Conception Crafters) has been taking the blog world by storm as of late. However, who was the one that was riding for Jay Fresh in the very beginning? Me. Who was the one that predicted he would blow up? Me. Who’s the one who whips blogs like Rick Ross whips dope off the iPhone? Me. Alright, that last question was a little off topic.

This blog, however, isn’t about me or my love of Rick Ross, it’s about Jay Fresh. In lieu of his recent, “Delta Project” Jay releases another visual shot, edited, and colored by Chris Complete to keep the #freshheads at bay. The “Delta Project” has done so well that it’s allowed Jay to book four shows with Pretty Lights music artist Paper Diamond, Gramatik, Supervision, and Michal Menert. Somebody swag this man out. Even though Jay Fresh may be “just a man” I predict he’s well on his way to making serious noise in the coming months. Since I’m a nice guy, I’ve included the entire, “Delta Project” below if you missed it the first time. If you did miss it the first time, then shame on you. Connect with him on Facebook here.

Hip-Hop | Wale – Lotus Flower Bomb (feat. Miguel)

Maybach Music’s latest big addition Wale just dropped this heater on Twitter – he goes IN on these bars. Unlike many artist out there, Wale has been consistently dropping tracks that win me over.

“Dont believe in love at first sight, but believe in love a first uhh”

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Wale – The Eleven One Eleven Theory [MIXTAPE]

Posted by on August 17, 2011

Wale exceeded my expectations with this project. Having spent a considerable amount of time in the DMV, I was introduced to Wale at an early age and, of course, was surrounded by fellow fans. When I went off to different areas I realized his music wasn’t as well received as I had previously thought. In a way, Wale was stuck somewhere between a C and B list artist. Now that he’s signed to the hotter than ever Maybach Music group, I think he’ll be able to solidify his B position. As I mentioned above, The Eleven One Eleven Theory is an impressive project that our fans should dig; it’s packed with catchy samples and fresh bars. If you like Wiz, chances are, you’ll feel this. Below are my favorite cuts, let us know what you think in the comments section!
