Progressive House | Cedric Gervais & Howard Jones – Things Can Only Get Better

Posted by on June 3, 2013

Cedric Gervais & Howard Jones – Things Can Only Get Better Cedric Gervais, the man responsible for the single “Molly“, which spawned the infernal breed of related clothing, and his chart topping remix of Lana Del Rey‘s “Summertime Sadness“, has taken Howard Jones‘ 1985 hit singe “Things Can Only Get Better” and brought it up to speed to this era of dance music with a 2013 big room update. In all serious the molly clothing is the worst. You look like someone who thinks they are going to see Levels or dubstep perform on the mainstage and you are just asking for a cavity search from security. Not sure Cedric Gervais knew that is what he was going to create, but he did I put some of the blame on him for it.

Cedric Gervais flips the instrumental of the original, keeping the soulful vocals from Howard Jones and adds his own big room sound. Playing off of the addictive vocals, Gervais adds a melody that will not wow with complexity, but is just what the doctor ordered for this track, while adding well-timed electro growls and a pulsing bass line. To spice things up, I tossed in a very solid remix of the track from rising dance music producer, Landis, whose track with Henry Fong “Get Down” has been in heavy rotation for many big DJs

House | Mimada’s Top 12 for 2012

Posted by on January 5, 2013

With the renaissance of music festivals and growing popularity of electronic music, it’s safe to say my attendance to live shows grew exponentially in 2012 (not that I had that many years under my belt to begin with). However, this really changed my perception of music and how I listened to it. Before, I would see an artist based on my familiarity with them and listen to their songs on repeat in the parking lot until moments leading up to the show. Now, it’s more so that I attend a concert based on the artist’s live talent and/or how much fun the performance will be. When I hear their songs in the future, I get sentiments of that first time I heard it sitting outside in a grassy field surrounded by flag holders or squished up against girls in moonboots rather than it’s premier on SiriXM radio. For me, music in 2012 was not about what would get me out of bed in the morning or play in the background at the gym while I worked out: it was what I could dive into and take me away from any known reality. I guess it’s always kind of been that way, but once you get a peek at my top 12, I think you’ll understand what I mean.

Albums | Lana Del Rey – Serial Killer (Album Preview)

Posted by on September 17, 2012

Betchy takes human form in Lana Del Rey. Her hair is huge because of the secrets of chicness reside in there. This firey vixen exudes sadness, chicness, and the general “over-it”-ness. She’s developed her own genre that could basically be described as the epitome of a #whitegirlproblem. 3 days ago she did a massive release of music and here are my personal favorites.

DO SOMETHING

Dubstep | Radio (Love Thy Brother Remix) – Lana Del Rey

Posted by on March 6, 2012

Wow, second remix in a row from Love Thy Brother that I am in absolute love with. I was expecting to hear some jam packed remix of Lana Del Rey’s vocals, which is not the case. Slightly disappointed I continued to listen on only to be completely blown away by some of the sickest original dubstep work I have heard. I love the use of the trumpets on this remix, it really adds character to the Duo’s remix. My conclusion is that Love Thy Brother did not need to use Lana’s vocals at all, this remix is incredible just the way it is.

After listening to the latest FNT Mix, courtesy of our very own DJ JurisDoc, two times through (once at home and once at the gym) I can safely brand it a Must Download. There’s nothing better than letting someone else do all of the hard work for you by carefully selecting and mixing a plethora of ear-wetting jams. Well thats enough writing for now, I gotta get back to round three…

Hip-Hop | Jay-Z, Pharrell, & Lana Del Rey – Allure (OTTR) (Urban Noize Remix)

Posted by on January 28, 2012

Hot new remix from Urban Noize combining Jay-Z & Pharrell’s “Allure” with a Lana Del Rey twist. As you would expect, the result is amazing.

“The concept of this remix is built like Lana Del Rey is playing Jay-Z’s “Allure” while continually pleading him to come back to her. However, he, knowing the consequences, is reluctant to this at first but ultimately gives in.” – Urban Noize
