Hip-Hop | Slaughterhouse – Monsters In My Head

Posted by on February 20, 2012

This song is featured on Crooked I’s upcoming mixtape, Psalm 82:6 which is dropping March 8th. This track is also going to be featured on Slaughterhouses first Shady Record release, Welcome To: Our House. The sound of this record is dope, Game did something similar to this on his Candy Corona mixtape. The only thing that could have made this better is a Shady feature.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Rap | Saigon – Warning Shots 3 [Mixtape]

After once vowing to retire after he dropped his first (and only) album,

“Whatever the case may be, We do a census on who is the sickest lyricist, they say me, That’s without a album out, y’all rated me, I drop one and I’mma bow out gracefully” – Saigon

…the Yardfather returns with the third installment of his Warning Shots mixtape, One Foot In The Grave.  Hungrier and more determined than ever, Saigitty follows up last years album (one of my personal favorites of the year), The Greatest Story Never Told [Purchase Here], with a cut-throat project once again proving to fans and critics that he’s one of the hardest lyricists out. The tape definitely holds true to his “underground” image, banging heavy with executive production from the one and only, Just Blaze.  The Brooklyn native has already confirmed another album is on the way, and judging by the work Sai’s been putting in lately, I’d say it’s coming very soon.  Below are a few of my favorite cuts:

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Los, Lola Monroe, Joe Budden, Action Bronson

The youngin’ coming after the crown, Los, recently made a visit to Shade 45’s Toca Tuesday to spit some bars off the top.  This is not the first time I’ve seen Los go bananas off the top, as he has made it a staple of his live shows.  If you haven’t copped one of the mixtapes of the year, go download The Crown Ain’t Safe now.

Los’ girlfriend, Lola Monroe, who recently inked a deal with Taylor Gang gives us a freestyle over Drake and Common’s beef song.  I downloaded Lola’s last mixtape after hearing some features on Los’ tracks and wasn’t overly impressed.  Ironically, I think she sounds similar to Nicki at times, but her self proclamation of “the female Pac” is a bit extreme.

After hearing No Church In The Wild in the trailer for Denzyl’s new flick, Safe House, you start to realize just how incredible the production is on the Watch The Throne project.  Joey B goes in over the 88-Keys x Kanye West x Mike Dean beat, owning it as usual.

Action Bronson hit the booth with Statik Selektah, laying down some fresh new bars for his next collaborated project.  Nothing out of the ordinary, just quality byproduct of an overweight white dude rapping.

Hip-Hop, Videos | BET Awards In A Nutshell

Posted by on October 12, 2011

For those of you who tuned in to the 2011 Hip-Hop Awards last night on BET know the cyphers took the limelight, and more specially, the Shady 2.0 Boys.  I unfortunately didn’t see the awards live last night but from the videos I’ve watched today and the buzz I’ve seen floating around Web 2.0, Shady delivered the entré while most other parties involved only supplied the appetizers.  Here’s what BET had to say about Shady 2.0…

“Yelawolf + Slaughterhouse + Shady = Boom! Yela speed raps, Joe Budden sabotages the throne, Crooked I mean mugs his way through his set, Joell Ortiz gets on through affirmative action, Royce Da 5’9” hollas at Rihanna and Eminem, well, is Eminen. Fiyah!”

Aside from Shady, I was also impressed by the “Indie Meets Mainstream” crowd, including Big K.R.I.T., Tech N9ne, MGK, Kendrick Lamar (who I’m real high on lately), & lastly B.o.B.

“And we are in the game, like the cypher was a scrimmage, So everybody gossip and go tell a friend and a pigeon, that this white boy just bodied black entertainment television, #LaceUp”- Machine Gun Kelly

In addition to the cyphers, Chris Brown won best video, Weezy won best lyricist (cough cough) and best live performer (fair), Nicki won MVP, Lex Luger won best producer (even though all his beats sound the same), World Star won best hip-hop site (this is my new goal), J. Cole won best mixtape with FNL, Khaled won best useless shouter DJ,  and Wiz won rookie of the year.  Nothing out of the ordinary coming from a mainstream source.  You can view all the winners HERE.
