Albums | Why I Finally Switched to a Coinbase Wallet (and what surprised me)
Posted by Spice on May 30, 2025
Okay, so check this out—I’ve been messing with crypto wallets for years.
Wow! The landscape keeps changing. My first impression: wallets were all about cold storage and complicated seed phrases. But honestly, something felt off about that neat separation between “secure” and “usable.”
Initially I thought a browser extension would be clunky, but then I tried one that felt…surprisingly smooth. Hmm… my instinct said this could be a real day-to-day tool, not just an occasional vault. On one hand I like hardware for big bags, though actually for daily dapps and token swaps a mobile/extension combo is way more convenient. Really?
Here’s what bugs me about some wallet setups: they’re either built by engineers who love friction, or by marketers who promise magic. Neither helps when you want to check a token balance quickly. I’m biased, but I prefer tools that respect both convenience and security. So, I started using a Coinbase Wallet and kept poking at it.

A quick, real-world take
My first few days with the coinbase wallet felt like unlocking a familiar door. Short setup. Clear seed backup prompts. Medium-term: I appreciated the way it kept dapp permissions readable without feeling like a legal contract. Long thought—if you use DeFi or NFTs sometimes, the friction of signing transactions and toggling networks adds up, so anything that smooths that flow actually changes behavior.
Whoa! The extension integrated with sites I already use. Seriously? Yes. Connecting to a marketplace or a swap interface worked the first time more often than not. Something else—notifications and permission histories are simple enough that you can audit them without a PhD. Initially I worried about centralized companies and custody assumptions; actually, wait—Coinbase Wallet is non-custodial, so you hold your keys, even if the branding makes some people uneasy.
I’m not 100% sure how all users will feel about the UI choices, but for me the balance tipped toward usable. Oh, and by the way… the wallet supports multiple chains and token standards so you don’t have to juggle a dozen apps.
Practical setup notes (what tripped me up)
First: seed phrase backups. Don’t skip it. My instinct said “yeah yeah,” and I nearly paid for that with a minor panic when I tried restoring to another device. Save the phrase offline. Duplicate it. Hide it. Simple but true. Secondly, browser extension permissions can be confusing—granting network access is different from approving transactions. On the one hand site connections are harmless; on the other hand giving blanket approval is risky.
Another thing—I ran into a token that didn’t show up by default. Not a bug—just a UX gap. You may need to add custom tokens or switch RPCs sometimes. That’s normal across wallets, so don’t be surprised. Also, gas settings: the wallet gives simple presets, and you can dive deeper if you want. If you’re impatient, bump the fee. If you’re cheap, wait—tradeoffs are real very real.
Something else that surprised me: seed phrase import from other wallets worked smoothly, but address ordering and label consistency can be different. You’ll want to verify small transfers before moving larger amounts. My advice: test with a tiny amount first. It’s boring but very very important.
Security posture (short version)
Short: non-custodial. Medium: you control keys locally; Coinbase doesn’t hold your assets. Longer: that means security is partly on you—device hygiene, backups, and cautious signing matter. On one hand the wallet has safeguards and clear prompts; though actually if you accept malicious dapp requests you’re still exposed. So learn to read the signature and permission dialogs.
Whoa! I almost clicked an approval without reading once. Learned the hard way to pause. My working rule now: if a site asks for unlimited token approval, deny and set a specific allowance. It’s a small habit that prevents a lot of headaches.
Using it day-to-day
Okay, here’s the day-to-day picture. Short tasks like checking balances or sending small amounts are quick. Medium tasks like swapping tokens or approving dapps take a couple more clicks. Long workflows—bridging between chains or interacting with complex DeFi contracts—require attention and sometimes manual RPC changes. My workflow adapted: I use a hardware wallet for very large holdings and Coinbase Wallet for everyday moves.
My instinct said this hybrid approach would feel clumsy, but it actually works well. I keep most funds offline, then move operational amounts into the extension when I need them. That way the convenience of a browser/mobile wallet doesn’t force me to compromise all at once.
FAQ
Is Coinbase Wallet the same as a Coinbase account?
No. They’re different. Coinbase (the exchange) is custodial and holds assets for you. The coinbase wallet is non-custodial—meaning you control your private keys. That matters a lot if you care about independence from third-party custody.
How do I download and install the wallet?
Grab the extension from a trusted source or install the mobile app via official stores. Follow the on-screen steps: create wallet, write down seed phrase, confirm. Test with a tiny transfer before importing large balances. If you’re on desktop, the browser extension makes connecting to dapps straightforward; if on mobile, use the in-app browser for many NFT marketplaces and swaps.
Can I add custom tokens or networks?
Yes. The wallet supports custom tokens and custom RPCs. Sometimes you’ll need to add a token contract address for lesser-known tokens. For networks, add RPC endpoints carefully—use trusted sources for URLs and chain IDs. If you mess up a network URL, you can remove it and re-add the correct one.
Alright—here’s the closing note. I’m curious and skeptical by default, but this wallet handled enough real tasks to earn my trust for daily use. I’m biased toward practical tools, and this one proved itself in the small, annoying moments that actually shape long-term habits. Something clicked: convenience without surrendering key control is possible. Not perfect, but close. Hmm… and now I find myself using it more often than I would have guessed, which is sort of the point, right?

I really love this remix and have been listening to it for the past few days non stop. One of my favorite artists currently, Direct , is making some amazing music. Deep House | Galantis – Runaway [U&I] (DIMES Remix)
Posted by JT on December 5, 2014
You see, as bloggers, we receive submission after submission (and we DO read them all!) and once in a while we get a track that just makes us freeze in our seats. Meet DIMES. You don’t know him. This is his first release… I mean he’s barely got 20 followers on Soundcloud. Nonetheless, he’s got a level of confidence that’s evident in the quality of this track he pushed my way a few days ago. I give DIMES a 10/10. Hailing from sunny-side Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, DIMES takes us back to summer time with this tropical-inspired deep house fix. DIMES just made my ‘2015 To-Watch” list and after you get a taste of this, he’s guaranteed to make yours too. Enjoy this free download, and be on the lookout.

Tom Bull is a producer I’ve been keeping my eyes on, ever since I heard his remix of Beverley Knight’s “Fire Burning,” and this time he releases an original with Official Nancie “I’ll Be Waiting,” which is already being supported by Disclosure, and even without that co-sign, this track is just straight feels. I swear if I wouldn’t get lost to this tune every time I play it, I would’ve had this up earlier, but now you know! This is a must listen and a must download, let’s get it some more plays!

Ambient, Electro | Misterwives – Reflections (Gryffin Remix)
Posted by admin on April 27, 2014

This “Reflections” remix graced my inbox a few days back and after the first listen I knew it needed to be shared. However, as it usually does, life got ahead of me and my post slipped from one day to the next to the next. Then, tonight as I perused Hype Machine, staring me right in the face -as any not completed assignment does- was the Misterwive’s name along with the Gryffin remix.
The bouncy deep house sound that Gryffin implores has been a recent trend amongst producers, and combined with the Misterwives angelic vocals the song was a guaranteed success.
Enjoy, download for free, and help it keep ascending the HypeM charts!
