DJ-Set | ASOT 650: Dash Berlin Drops New ID

Posted by on February 17, 2014

Dash Berlin is the one of the preeminent trance DJ’s in the world. He routinely kills it with his “ASOT” series. He played so many gems over the weekend. In fact, Hardwell even showed up on his night off which signals he may be experimenting with new genres. What was most impressive, however, was the ID Dash played starting at 11:11. I know we know that voice from somewhere but can’t place it. What I do know is that it sounds like it could become one of the biggest trance songs to release in 2014.

Earlier today the United States swept the Men’s skiing slopestyle event and thanks to the sounds provided by Mike Nakagawa, the mountain’s vibe was described more like spring break than the Winter Olympics. Mike, who goes by DJ Naka G,  creates the soundtrack  to the extreme course where riders life-long dreams are either made or broken… no pressure. We were lucky enough to catch up DJ Naka G earlier today:

Albums, Electronic | Cashmere Cat – Wedding Bells EP & Video

Posted by on February 13, 2014

Yes folks, this is the week we have all been waiting for. Just a few days ago, our favorite feline Cashmere Cat dropped his highly anticipated EP, appropriately titled Wedding Bells, and as a follow up, the music video counterpart for the title track.

As a whole, the EP is a musical journey with uplifting builds and cadences of flutes, piano chords, and dew drops that send you soaring like a leaf wistfully falling in the breeze. In accordance with the theme, each track plays out a motif that strikes a different chord of your heart strings, from the early stages of butterflies and passing notes to the all encompassing feeling of true, uninhibited love. *swoon*

And it seems Cashmere Cat has a complete grasp of his artistic vision in every possible sense, as the visual pairing for the leading single compliments the track in the most compassionate of ways.

Now, according to a Pitchfork review by Nate Patrin, the innovative and “fundamental” nature of the EP marks a turning point in the direction of electronic music, and even more importantly Cashmere’s skyrocketing career. But I beg to differ with Patrin’s claim that it is difficult to develop any sort of “emotional connection to the cuts” as instilling that type of emotion in his listeners seems to be at the top of his artistic agenda. While Patrin argues that these melodies create more “agitation than elation,” I think that’s what causes us to enjoy the EP more and more. There are those moments of slight unease that with a second listen, evolve into strong feelings of adoration, like taking yourself of your listening comfort zone and discovering a whole new appreciation for the sound.

If you haven’t already, you can purchase the Wedding Bells EP via iTunes, and consider saving some money on chocolate and roses tomorrow and burn a copy of it for your significant other as well. That’s when the real magic happens =^.^=

House, Interviews | Lars Allertz: Sweden’s Next Big Thing

Posted by on February 12, 2014

2013 has been the breakthrough year for Sweden’s new DJ/producer talent Lars Allertz. His hit track, “Make You Mine” has scored in the Top 10 of the Swedish iTunes chart, been aired on Swedish national radio, and played during his first arena gig at the Swedish electronic music festival, November Lights. As things are looking bright for the 21-year-old, our guest blogger Rebecca made a trip to Stockholm to talk to him about his progressing career.

It’s classic Swedish winter weather and the traffic is slow, just as it is every year. I never learn that the road workers seem to always forget how to handle the snow. My bus is late, and I’m late to my meeting with Lars Allertz. Shit.

After a ”refreshing” sprint in my not-so-sprint-friendly combat boots from the bus station to Uppsala’s central train station, I throw myself on the train to Stockholm. I arrive fifty minutes later, stressed out and therefore very nervous. But Lars Allertz greets me with the kindest approach, and I realize that his down to earth personality is forgiving, even for my stupid mistake to clean up the apartment after last night’s raging after-party instead of choosing the early bus.

Allertz suggests we take a short walk to his studio located in the prettiest and nicest area in Stockholm – Östermalm. It’s the kind of area where I, in my dreams, imagine myself buying the perfect turn of the century apartment when I, in the future, am ridiculously successful and perfect (fingers crossed).

During the walk we get into a relaxed conversation. Allertz tells me about the studio, how it’s in the same building as the DJ duo Nause, and that he in facts spends most of his time here “where the magic happens.”

Hip hop legend LL Cool J hops on Kid Ink’s “Main Chick” featuring LL Cool J, Chris Brown & Tyga, and you have Kevin Hart to thank for that! The story goes, funny man Kevin Hart was live on DJ Whoo Kid’s “Whoolywood Shuffle” on Shade 45 and when asked which MC he wanted to hear first in the celebrity guest-mix, his answer was “LL Cool J’s I Need Love.”  This brought Whoo to reach out and dare LL live on the air to write a verse to Kid Ink’ single. 3o Minutes later, LL sent over his verse and the remix was played live on the air, proving that the veteran still has it! This is a must listen!
