YOU ALREADY KNOW WHAT IT IS.

All the music that I listened to throughout the last 12 months enough to make me sick but somehow didn’t. The fields of music brought a bountiful yield in 2013 which allowed listeners like me to tune into more genres and artists than I could ever imagine. In order to cover all my necessary bases, I’ve drafted quite a comprehensive list (or two) missing prety much only anything Jennifer Lawrence related although if all the things she said this year were songs then they would 100% have made it on my list as well.

So, let the countdown, BEGIN!

2013 was a year of many momentous things. Including the insanely awesome above shot, which was taken by yours truly with a cracked iPhone (and it’s frankly still a mystery as to how I managed to pull it off. I mean, look at that thing. That thing is next level. Eat your heart out, Rukes). In keeping with all the seasonal nostalgia, here are my picks for the best tracks of the year.

Electro | Disclosure – Latch (Stwo & Phazz Edition)

Posted by on December 16, 2013

Phazz has to be one of my favorite musical installations in the industry in the last couple of years and his remixes really do it for me. This isn’t only funky, but feel good as well and the original Disclosure song has a run for its money with this Stwo & Phazz edition; “Was the other night with my bro @stwosc on skype and we suddenly decided to do this edition of Disclosure … Hope y’all like it folks.” -Phazz

House | Disclosure – Apollo

I’m about a month late in posting this but I ain’t even mad about it (and you shouldn’t be either). It’s no secret that I’m about as pro-Disclosure as it gets, especially after finally seeing them live for the first time last month, but even I was taken aback by the latest from the talented brothers from Surrey. In typical fashion, “Apollo” is deep and deceptively minimal but packs a serious punch. From the driving two-note theme to the low end industrial squelches to the incongruously (but perfectly) retro vocal sample, this track is a quietly brilliant standout.

Trap | Benzi – Girl Trapz (Volume Four)

Posted by on November 26, 2013

Benzi is baaaack with another one of his signature, highly acclaimed Girl Trapz mixtapes. This Girl Trapz is special not just because its tracklist is a stolid 10 or that it makes girls (and boys!) want to take their clothes off BUT because almost all of the featured songs were produced exclusively for this set. That includes contributions from the Girl Trapz remix contest Benzi held leading up to the release. So I raise my glass to you Benzi, not a single song disappoints. Snatch this free download and let it take you away on an hour-long euphoric, ass-shaking journey.

Bass, House | NVOY – Breathe feat. Jess Brinham

Posted by on November 4, 2013

With the return of deep house music, sometimes we get carried away with the trend and forget what actually sounds good. Luckily the boys from the Oxford-based duo NVOY have us covered. Their style of “music for beautiful girls” can be attributed to house’s roots in the Detroit and Chicago, as well as UK garage. Each track is numbingly good, hitting that sweet spot like a piña colada on a summer’s day. For those of you that are nearing the end of your infatuation with Settle, look no further than NVOY. Check out their most recent releases below in addition to their available free downloads via Facebook.

This first track is their most recent and was featured on Skream & Benga’s BBC Radio 1 show. I lose it at the 2-minute mark.

This next track, “Is It Good,” is in fact, very good.

Playlists | Warm Air Vol. 2

Well folks, it’s been real. Tomorrow, Sept 22, marks the official end of summer 2013. In honor of the change in season, I present to you the second installment of my very own Warm Air mixtapes. A mix designed to ease the transition of swimsuits to sweaters and piña coladas to pumpkin spice and peppermint mocha lattes. A mix to warm you up in the cool autumn breeze, to relive the sweet memories of the past few months, and keep your spirits up and motivated as you face challenges in school, work, and everyday life. So close your eyes, and let this mix take you back to that moment on the beach where you dug a hole in the sand with your toes as you watched the sun set, or when you indulged in the most amazing 4th of July BBQ of your life, or drove around recklessly with the top down and the radio up, or the night you watched an epic fireworks spectacle with your boo thang wrapped up tight in your arms.

Remember, just because the summer is over doesn’t mean the fun is. Oh no, 2013 can and will go out with a bang. With 3 months left to go, it’s time the real fun begins.

I’d also like to dedicated this mix to one of my most beautiful friends as she turns 21 today. Hope you enjoy this mixtape as you take your first legal swigs of alcohol today, take an extra big one for me <3
