Melodic progressive has been exponentially growing for the past few years, finding support recently from Cosmic Gate, Jaytech, Above & Beyond and Armin Van Buuren. There are no surprises here that as the electronic music industry becomes saturated with the same rise-drop formula-driven tracks, a demand for music that embraces a reversion to luscious synths and smooth transitions with such therapeutic elements has become this popular. After months of planning, the patience has paid off as Perplexity Music introduces itself to the industry with this stunning 4 track EP headed by prodigy and label co-founder Alex Humberstone. This is only a sample of what to expect, but with music of this quality and consistency, I have no doubt that great things are upon the horizon for their team. Grab a seat, relax and listen to the rest of the EP below:

Trance | Audien – Iris

Posted by on July 3, 2013

audien irisIt has been a big week for Audien. First he released his followup to “Wayfarer”, that saw support from artists all across the dance music spectrum like Above & Beyond, Cosmic Gate, Armin van Buuren, Knife Party & Madeon, and now today added to the already star-studded Electric Zoo lineup. “Iris” carries that Audien sound with sweeping synth chords, atmospheric pads, delicate key play and a subtle, grinding low-end. Expect to hear this often on trance stages and throughout festivals during the summer as it creeps into artists sets and up the charts.

After releasing the trailer yesterday, Insomniac has finally shed light on some of the artists who will be gracing the stages here in New York on May 17th & 18th. Some may be wondering why there are so few compared to other festival announcements — remember it was shortened to two days, so 1/3 less DJs required. Some of the notable names on the list include Carl Cox, Steve Angello, Dirty South, Arty, Porter Robinson, Eric Prydz, Nicky Romero, Dash Berlin and Cosmic Gate. The lineup also sets itself up for at least 4 artist lead stages, Carl Cox & Friends, Steve Angello’s Size Matters with Thomas Gold, AN21 & Max Vengeli already on the bill, a trance stage of some sort, possibly led by Cosmic Gate if Armin does not show up in the second wave of artists, and another repeat of last year with Afrojack’s Jacked Stage with Quintino, Bassjackers and R3hab all on the bill. The lineup is very promising and seems to have plenty for all tastes. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the second wave of artists and judgment should be withheld until then. Bootleg, Electro-House, Mashups | Nicky Romero vs. Green Velvet. vs. Cosmic Gate – Analog Flash (Omnia Mashup)

Posted by on February 4, 2013

green velvet flash

A nice Monday afternoon freebie from Omnia, who has mashed up Nicky Romero’s famed remix of Green Velvet’s “Flash” with Cosmic Gate’s 2007 tech-trance classic “Analog Feel.” The kicky bassline, dark melody, and off-beat hi-hats on “Analog Feel” are a perfect counterpoint to Nicky Romero’s minimal but hard-hitting reboot of “Flash.”

It also (sort of) bears mention that I tweeted “camera’s ready, prepare to flash” for no discernible reason this morning (wasn’t even listening to the song), and now this is here. Weird. It’s like I have ESPN or something.

Trance | Cosmic Gate & J’Something – Over The Rainbow (Remixes)

Posted by on June 6, 2012

If you’ve been following trance at all recently, you’ll be very excited that the remix package for Cosmic Gate’s euphoric gem “Over the Rainbow” has finally dropped. W&W’s lustrous rework of the German duo’s track has seen a great deal of airtime on Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance radio show, while the treatment from Jquintel, Jeziel Quintela and Manufactured Superstars features a big, energetic house build and a slightly more stripped down vibe. Preview the package below and head to Beatport to pick up this exclusive release.

Progressive House, Trance | Cosmic Gate Remixes

First up is Cosmic Gate’s massive remix of Emma Hewitt’s single “Colours”. The single was already given remix treatment by the legend Armin van Buuren, the German trance duo gives it a go with this incredible uplifting, energetic remix, utilizing Emma Hewitt’s stunning vocals to perfection as only they would know coming off of their smash single “Be Your Sound” together.

Somewhat lost in the fact in the release of Cosmic Gate’s remix of “Colours” was the fact that they also released their remix of “Wild & Perfect Day”. They make this track a little more trancey, taking out much of the uplifting synth and piano melody and replacing with a harder trance melody that works just as well. The catchy vocals remain and the bass line becomes a bit more developed.

After jump I included another Cegor remix, which is a great smooth progressive track with a quality piano lead and an uplifiting synth melody.
