I’ve said this before, but King Deco is an incredibly special talent. Too rarely do I come across a pop songstress who has all the vocal power and polish of a radio heavyweight, yet with a thoughtful aesthetic and resonant lyrics. Building off the success of her last EP, Tigris, Deco released a lyric video for “Ocean”, my favorite song from the project. It’s a heartfelt and thoughtful song that addresses her choice to leave her family in Jordan, where she was raised: “Am I really wrong now?/My family condemns me/But it’s empty in that city of sand.” As a writer, aided by the assistance of NYC writing/production team Kinetics & One Love, she has that essential skill of turning her personal stories into something accessible for others, and extremely poignant. The song was produced by Cobra Starship guitarist Ryland Blackinton and One Love, and is equally mesmeric and cinematically produced as anything we’ve seen come from her camp thus far. Cobra Starship, known to many for their pop radio hits, venture into big room production with their massive remix on Icona Pop’s “I Love It”. The remix is actually their first major label, production only, remix from the group and gives us a fresh new perspective to look at the group. I can’t exactly place my finger on what genre the remix but one thing is for sure, this remix is designed to crush the dance floor. Reminds me a bit of Crookers’ famous remix of Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘N’ Night” a bit.

Cobra Starship’s album Night Shades dropped this past August, and a few days ago so did his new official music video. Like the title of the track, the video reflects how much they just don’t care what everyone thinks. Not exactly an original subject, but what is anymore? I was already hooked on this track, considering how catchy it is, but this video is awesome. Best part is when Mac Miller ditches the old lady on the side-walk and she gets owned by a puddle, haha.
