Every piece of work The Dean’s List release differentiates themselves more and more as artists.  Following the release of their last video for “Take Shape”, the Boston trio return with another take on their version of a club hit.  With assistance from Dani Ummel on the hook, Aziz (Sonny), Alexander (DJ Mendoza), and Mik take to their creative sides once again and venture to an asian temple to reenact “that night” (Ce Soir).  While The Dean’s List are in the process of rebranding themselves into The King’s Dead, a channel in which they will deliver all aspects of art through music and video, they are still gearing up for a tour kicking off later this month.  View the stops announced thus far.

Hip-Hop | Aziz – The 1990’s (One Love x Dead Presidents x Full Clip)

Posted by on February 28, 2012

Aziz, a first generation American, born to a Senegalese father and German mother, spent most of his life in New Hampshire before moving to Boston to study and play basketball at Brandeis University. Blessed with the gift of gab, Aziz ‘s ability to command a room became apparent at an early age, and from the onset, his older brothers pushed him to turn to hip hop as an outlet. The advice clearly paid off, as Aziz has become a budding star in the blogosphere. The video above is a compilation of three verses taken from his mixtape “TwentyOne” that’s set to drop March 12th. The mixtape takes a track from each of the 21 years Aziz has been alive (1990-Today). It includes 21 different artists and 21 different producers over that time period and he spits 21 verses over those respective beats. This mixtape pays homage to the hip hop that inspired and made him who he is today. Now this is what I’m talm’bout.

Hip-Hop, Pop | Hip-Hop: Lupe Fiasco, Mac Miller, Casey Veggies, Mann, Aziz, Chiddy

Lead singer & songwriter for Fall Out Boy, Patrick Stump, recently hit the booth with Lupe Fiasco to create what has potential to be Chi town’s new anthem.  Both putting on for their city, this video represents the windy city well and gives every Chicago-an(?) something to be proud of.  Chicago is not the only thing Lupe is publicly passionate about.  The politically controversial MC recently joined a Wall Street protest prior to shared his beliefs on the current economic condition and New World Order [read up on that here].

In lieu of reaching 900,000 follower’s on Twitter, @MacMiller dropped a new track titled “Willie Dynamite” in part of his ‘Road 2 A Million Followers’.  Young Macintosh keeps his pimp hand strong, dedicating this track to the 1974 flick famous pimp, Willie Dynamite.  Produced by Big Jerm, Mac keep’s it it true to his style with catchy yet insightful lyrics and even drops an autotuned bar for the K.I.D.S. Blue Slide Park coming November 8th!

Casey Veggies, who will be accompanying Mac on tour, also dropped his debut album, Sleeping In Class, today on iTunes.  I haven’t had a chance to listen to it yet, but I’ll update you all with the best cuts once I have a chance to do so.  For now, here’s the highly anticipated track off the project, featuring none other than the young Mac himself.

My favorite 5 1/2′ west coast cat daddy, Mann, dropped a nice new laid back bubbler track.  It’s been hit or miss with Mann, but the #BirthdayGang chief keeps it shaded up on this nice and easy beat, leaving us with a new track to chill to.

Since the recent release of his junior mixtape, Daydreams of A Spaceshot, my boy Aziz has dropped a few bonus tracks that didn’t make the tape.  This is not the typical sound we’ve grown accustomed to from Zig Zag, but I.L.O Productions flips the Yukon Blonde track for a smooth, slightly poppy track.  Sounds a bit like something we’d hear from Wiz, but I’m feeling this joint from Aziz.

I feel guilty posting this in a hip-hop update, but it didn’t deserve it’s own post, so here it is anyways.  VV Brown scooped Chiddy (of Chiddy Bang) for a verse off her newest pop hit, “Children (Keep On Singing)”.   Settle down, it’s not really the ice cream truck…

Hip-Hop, Videos | XV – Wichita (Music Video)

Posted by on September 13, 2011

Quite possibly the only substantial talent coming out of Kansas that I’m aware of, XV continues his recent tear, releasing the visuals for one of his most popular singles off his Zero Heroes mixtape.  Although the song itself is a bit dated, XV takes to his roots to show some visual love to his hometown people over the real smooth Just Blaze production.  XV linked up with FTS Creative for the video, who you may recognize from their work with The Dean’s List and/or Aziz, as this video once again does not disappoint.  If you’ve put off downloading Zero Heroes for the past 6 months or so, I’d advise you to move that mouse and download it here.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Aziz- Ode To Pete Rock

Posted by on August 5, 2011

I remember the first time I listened to Aziz. He was part of a group at the time, and he was featured on as song called, “Tic, Tac, Toe”. The song quickly became a guilty pleasure of mine. He doesn’t know this, but even today I’ll catch myself reciting his verse like a wanna-be-rapper in my car. Yes, I am a professional in car rapper. No, I don’t care what you think. Yes I’m feeling myself too much right now, pause.

Anyways, here is Aziz’s third single and second music video titled “Ode to Pete Rock” off of his new mixtape “Daydreams of a Spaceshot” which will release on Tuesday, August 23rd. The single is an instrumental that was originally produced by DJ Premier for Das EFX’s track “Real Hip Hop” that Pete Rock later remixed in the mid 1990s. The video for “Ode to Pete Rock” was Directed Calvin Scibilia and shot in New York City and New Jersey.

As always, follow Aziz on Twitter and Facebook. Special shout out to Maxwell Zotz, who’s behind the scenes of Aziz’s operation, and makes things happen on a daily basis.
