Progressive House | Syn Cole – April

Posted by on February 4, 2013

Estonian producer Rene Pais, now known as Syn Cole or in the trance world as DNS Project, having ditched his Clashback moniker, is set to make his single debut on Avicii’s LE7ELS imprint with his track “April”. As one of our 13 to watch in 2013, Syn Cole combines gritty, complex electro, a quick alternating bass line, with strong synth play and pitch lead. The progressive mix takes a little of the edge off with a stripped back second drop for those of you who want a little more of an uplifting sound. Having already shown his prowess on the remix front and trance fans are already quite familiar with the DNS Project name, having played ASOT 550 in addition to numerous releases on Armada, Coldharbour etc, it should be no surprise that the quality will be there from the get go, as we see with “April”.

Trance | Armin van Buuren & Markus Schulz – The Expedition (A State of Trance 600 Anthem)

Armin and Markus

We’re about two weeks out from the launch of Armin van Buuren’s A State of Trance 600 world tour, so it’s only appropriate that the official theme song — which premiered a few weeks ago on ASOT — got a Beatport release earlier today. ASOT theme songs are always a bit of a marketing ploy — by design, they’re meant to drum up excitement for the tour — but they’re also frequently great in their own right. Armin and Markus’s “The Expedition” (which in some ways recalls the ASOT 550 theme, W&W’s “Invasion”) is no exception. A dark and dramatic vibe, punchy synth riffs, and a slightly higher bpm (133) ensure that this is something we’ll be hearing plenty of in the coming weeks. For more details on A State of Trance 600 and to see if Armin and the gang will be coming to a city near you, head to the official website.

In other trance news, look for Armin’s upcoming A State of Trance 2013 compilation to drop on Valentine’s Day. (Note: apparently it will feature a new Gaia track. Goodie!) This compilation is the 10 year anniversary edition and will likely (hopefully) be filled with a lot of great material. He’s also in the process of wrapping his next artist album, so, as always, many things to look forward to in the coming weeks and months.

Progressive House, Trance | Middy’s Top 12 of 2012

2012 was a crazy year. ASOT 550, Sensation, E Zoo, Inox, Prydz, seeing some of the best DJs in the world two, three, four, five times. It was fun. This was not easy at all and I could go back and forth on this at any moment, but these are those tracks that you could go back to at any moment and be more than happy. They are the ones that have a place in the timeline of the year. This is very separate of what is to come in the next few days — the official best and biggest tracks of 2012.

DJ-Set, Trance | W&W – Shotgun

Posted by on April 13, 2012

W&W were able to release single “Shotgun” on Tuesday after a few delays with Beatport (how surprising) and it is a massive track. With the new FNT 2.0 it has been rare for me to post trance tracks so you know this one is really good. This track is hard hitting from the first drop of short choppy bursts of bass and distorted synth to the last drop with the same progression except with big room synths. The build in between sets the stage for the massive drops in the latter part of the track.
Below is their set from ASOT550 in Den Bosch on March 31st, which in my opinion as someone in attendance was the best one there; even with that stacked line-up. Their set had an incredible amount of energy from the first second to the last and they were having a blast up on stage. The amount of unreleased tracks played was a bit absurd and shows the future they have ahead of them. Tracklist after the jump.
