Electro, Freestyle, Hip-Hop, House, Rap, Throwbacks | Snoop Dogg and Soundcloud: A Love Story

Posted by on March 20, 2012

A few days ago, Snoop Dogg was handed a slip of paper that would change the face of the modern world forever. On it were the username and password to a Soundcloud account — an account long forgotten and gathering dust, an account more unloved and underutilized than so many Myspace pages of yore. We don’t know how this account came into existence (from the looks of page 7, it was set up by his management team about a year ago), but these details are unimportant now. Because for whatever reason, on this fated March morning, Snoop Dogg set out to make his Soundcloud the greatest effing Soundcloud on the planet.

I’m not kidding when I say that. This is one of the most epic and entertaining things I’ve come across in a long time. My running theory is that Snoop Dogg hit 47 js and then parked himself in front of his computer for 15 hours, just uploading without so much as a bathroom break. I’ve been sitting at work going through this thing and it’s literally a goldmine — there are rough cuts, studio outtakes, instrumentals that are far from finished, remakes of some of his older tracks, and then total curve balls like this hour long disco-funk-electro-tinged-slow-jam-heavy mix that I can’t even do justice to in words. It’s a weird but wonderful insight into his creative process, and the best part is that everything up there is a free download. If you’ve been in need of a good Snoop Dogg fix since 2004, this is your moment. And even if you haven’t been, do yourself a favor and check his stuff out anyway. All the major musical foodgroups are covered: “SNOOPADELIC MIXX,” “BLOWFLY G SHIT,” and, of course, just…”GOOD MUSIC.”

Snoop, we’ve missed you. Welcome back to the game.

SNOOP DOGG’S SOUNDCLOUD: 5+ Pages of Straight Up SC Gold

Edit: goodness, he just uploaded like eight more tracks in the past 20 minutes. Snoop Dogg, what are you up to over there? Is this a livestream of your life? Whatever, I dig it. His SC is about to blow up like the puppy cam.

Throwbacks | Throwback Thursdays!

Posted by on September 15, 2011

This week’s TBT was planned around one thing..raging. It was a bit hard to find electro and dubstep tracks that match the energy of Lil John’s I Don’t Give A F***, but you can’t really go wrong with the Bloody Beatroots.

THROWBACK CRUNK: Lil John – I Don’t Give A F**k

THROWBACK ELECTRO: The Bloody Beatroots – Anacletus (Original Mix)

THROWBACK DUBSTEP: Dubba Johnny – UKF Dubstep Tutorial

Throwbacks | Throwback Thursdays: J-Kwon, Deadmau5, Bassnectar

This week’s TBT is all over the place. It’s shocking to believe that we didn’t bring back J-Kwon any sooner. If anyone knows where this guy has been lately please let us know in the comments section.

THROWBACK HIP-HOP: J-Kwon – Hood Hop

THROWBACK ELECTRO: Deadmau5 – Some Chords (And Some More Notes FixD Remix) DOPE

THROWBACK DUBSTEP: Bassnectar ft. Nelly Furtado – Magical World

DO SOMETHING

Throwbacks | Throwback Thursdays – Sam Adams, White Panda, The Killabits

Posted by on August 25, 2011

In lieu of everyone being in party mode since they’re heading back to school, this week’s TBT is a bit more upbeat than usual. Just about all these tracks should be good for you to rage to this weekend. Remember to leave some suggestions for next week’s TBT in the comments section!

THROWBACK HIP-HOP: Sam Adams – Tabs Open

THROWBACK MASHUP: The White Panda – Wired To The Systems

THROWBACK ELECTRO: The White Tie Affair – Better When I’m Drunk (Strobonic Remix)

THROWBACK DUBSTEP: Major Lazer – Never Good Enough (The Killabits Remix)

Throwbacks | Throwback Thursdays – Big Sean, Bassnectar, Mike Posner, Laidback Luke

For this week’s Throwback Thursday we have a few timeless jams that should definitely set your weekend in the right direction. The first is off Big Sean’s mixtape Finally Famous Vol. 3 featuring Chiddy Bang. Sean absolutely murders his first two verses in this track about coping with the downsides of fame.

THROWBACK HIP-HOP: Big Sean ft. Chiddy Bang – Too Fake

Here’s a track from a close counterpart of Big Sean’s who rose to stardom thanks to music blogs. With a sample from E.L.O.’s Evil Woman, Posner couldn’t go wrong with this one. I think I speak for a majority of people when I say that I wish Mike still made songs like this.

THROWBACK POP: Mike Posner – Evil Woman

It’s HARD dub tracks like these that make everyone wish they had long hair to headbang with.

THROWBACK DUBSTEP: Bassnectar – Wildstyle Method (Radio Edit)

THROWBACK ELECTRO: Laidback Luke ft. Kid Sister – Do! Do! Do!

Throwbacks | Throwback Thursdays – Drake, The Boogaloo Crew

Posted by on July 21, 2011

Due to the fact that he has so much good older material that many people have never even heard before, Drizzy is a natural Throwback Thursday contender. You Know, You Know is, in my opinion, one of Drakes greatest  tracks. His lyricism  and flow are on point, and with a beat produced by No I.D. and Kanye, how can you go wrong? How this track didn’t make the cut for Thank Me Later is beyond me.

THROWBACK HIP-HOP: Drake – You Know, You Know

This track is a straight up heater. The build up is long but hang on till the 1 minute mark.

THROWBACK ELECTRO: Raaban & Evana – Realize (Raaban Extended Mix)

With artists like Rusko and Skrillex making what I like to call rage dubstep, its always nice to hear a dub track that you can justsit back to.

THROWBACK DUBSTEP: The Boogaloo Crew – Days Go By

Speaking of Skrillex, here is an old remix to an All American Rejects track courtesy of your boy Mach. The song is a little more on electroish than what you’re used to hearing from present-day Skrillex, but it’s still dope.

THROWBACK BANGER: The All-American Rejects – The Wind Blows (Skrillex Remix)
