Dubstep, Electro-House, Review | Seven Lions – Seven Lions EP

Posted by on October 16, 2012

People have been saying Seven Lions is very lucky to have been signed under OWSLA, I disagree, it is OWSLA that is lucky to have Seven Lions. This EP may be one of the most amazing things to release through the label. I want to cry listening to these 4 tracks, they are that incredible. Seven Lions, the man behind our bass filled emotions.

The first track, “Days to Come,” is absolutely beautiful. Despite the fact that he runs with the same producing strategy for his melodic work, his style is still one of a kind and no matter how many times he uses it on a track he will still dominate with tracks like “Days to Come.” “The Truth” is actually Electro-House which came to be quite a surprise seeing as Seven Lions is known for his Dubstep/Trance. It is awesome to see him go out of his comfort zone to come out with a cool track like this. Third, “Fractals,” which might be my favorite track on this EP. Again he went out of his comfort zone of Dubstep and delivered an Electro-House track, but this time he went hard, like, oh my god the heavy bass on this track made me poop my pants. In other words, he went H.A.M. His last track he actually gave away for free a few days ago, what a class act. Anyways, “She Was” is a Glitch-Hop/Break Beat track that I could easily compare to the level of Haywyre’s great Glitch-Hop productions. This is why this EP is one of the greatest things to release on OWSLA, because everyone expected to get an EP full of Seven Lions’ usual, clearly not the case. All in all, this EP is a must have, and I would go as far to say this is my EP of the year 2012. Simply the best.

Electro-House | Kaskade vs. Nicky Romero – Angel On My Stronger – (Nicky Romero Mix) [Kaskade FON Mash]

Posted by on October 15, 2012

Kaskade’s Freaks of Nature tour was one of the highlights of the summer, and if you were lucky enough to catch him as he traversed the U.S. you will definitely remember this track. Kaskade is notorious for throwing together awesome, high energy mash-ups that recontextualize the stirring vocals from his own original mixes and put a different spin on old favorites. His mash of the classic “Angel On My Shoulder” with the driving instrumental from Nicky Romero’s remix of “Stronger” by Kelly Clarkson is an instant winner and very much in keeping with this theme. This is basically a no brainer and an automatic download, so check it out and relive the memories.

Electro-House | The Aston Shuffle Vs. Tommy Trash – Sunrise (Won’t Get Lost) Tommy Trash Version

Posted by on October 12, 2012

Axtone has done it again with yet another dynamite release. Tommy Trash fresh off of his Beatport number one, “Reload” with Sebastian Ingrosso that Nervo proclaimed “Everything sounds small against it”, is back and switching Mafia member labels with his new release, The Aston Shuffle Vs. Tommy Trash – Sunrise (Won’t Get Lost). Combining the number one single in Australia from The Aston Shuffle with Tommy Trash’s signature grungy bass lines and eclectic pitched melodies, this track will leave a lasting impression on the end of 2012 and into 2013. The song also says it is the “Tommy Trash Version”, which could be a harmless label or it could mean there is another version of this to come.

DJ-Set, Electro-House, Progressive House | Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman – RADIO FG USA – 2012-10-05

Fresh off of the release of their single “Pieces Of Light” with Jonny Rose, Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman continue their weekly radio show on Radio FG USA, mixing together an hour of some of the hottest tracks at the moment, including an exclusive first play of Hard Rock Sofa’s remix of Nervo & Norman Doray’s “Something To Believe In“. The show also features a different, more edgy style of remix from rising dutch stars, Dubvision (look out for that Axtone ID), the ubiquitous dub mix from Nari & Milani of “Brohammer”, Otto Know’s uplifting remix of BURNS “Lies”, “Rage Valley” from Knife Party and many more. Tracklist after the jump.

Drum & Bass, Electro-House, House | Madeon – The City EP

Posted by on October 9, 2012

Madeon’s The City EP dropped yesterday, bringing us original and extended mixes of the titular track, a live version of “Icarus,” and some very fresh DnB remixes to boot. If you never once thought that Madeon’s distinctive brand of nu-disco would lend itself well to drum n’ bass — well, you’re not alone. I approached these remixes (specifically, Netsky’s remix of “Finale” and Fred V & Grafix’s remix of “Icarus”) with a fair degree of skepticism and found myself utterly blown away. Netsky achieves the impossible (in my humble opinion) and actually improves upon “Finale,” finding a way to milk even more drama out a track that’s already chock full of adrenaline. I always found the original unsatisfyingly brief, so I really appreciate the way Netsky draws out each build and adds new color by way of some wonderfully different chord progressions. Exeter duo Fred V & Grafix likewise breathe new life into an old favorite; they dexterously manipulate the tempo of the now-familiar “Icarus” and layer in fast, choppy breakbeats, which (perhaps surprisingly) have the effect of magnifying the punchy, bright synths we all know and love. In all, this is a tight and very savvy release from our favorite little Frenchman who continues to prove that he’s got this game on lock.

Electro-House, Preview | The Aston Shuffle vs Tommy Trash – Sunrise (Won’t Get Lost) [Preview]

Posted by on October 7, 2012

A track that has been staple of Axwell’s sets for some time now plus getting play from Thomas Gold, David Guetta, Arty among others, this Tommy Trash mix of The Aston Shuffle’s number one single on Australian radio “Sunrise” is a song that is going to continue the pedigree of outstanding Axtone releases this year. While it does have a similar bass line as his remix of Ladi Dadi, it is his signature bass line and there are still marked differences in the lead and overall melody of the track. No release date yet, but if the past serves as any indication with Axtone, we should see it released this month. UPDATE: It will be released October 12th.
