Justice Skolnik’s “Where You Belong” is one of the freshest The Weeknd remixes we’ve heard to date. The Chicago-based producer from San Francisco shows poise for a dynamic combination of synth and melody in this track. Classically trained on the guitar, Skolnik’s transition to electronic music is recent but very promising. The 18-year-old producer is primed for a huge breakthrough this year. Local DC resident Matt McGhee has released a steady output of music over the past couple of months, and today I have to share with you “Crystal”. While it won’t be a part of Matt’s upcoming project, “Crystal” is a soft-spoken, simple, but authentic song that tells the story of Matt’s struggle with a mystery girl.
If this is just a loosie to tide people over, I can’t wait to see what is coming off the project.

As the Chicago music scene continues to bubble and expand we get a new offering from Drew Mantia, assisted by the serenading of Hologram Kizzie. Originally from St. Louis, Drew went to school to study music and has since been building his own brand and performing alongside some exciting acts in St. Louis’ finest venues.
“Kill Yo Ass” sounds like it comes from a very real place, which can be attributed to the fact that it is self-produced.
The raspy voice atop jazzy, drum-heavy instrumental makes for an exciting and relaxing combination all in one. Listen to the introspective song, and get to know Drew Mantia as it won’t be the last time you hear the name.

Kojey Radical – Bambu
There’s something about a deep-voiced British accent that is soothing to listen to. Which in this case is quite surprising once you grasp how destructive Kojey Radical’s lyrics actually are.
The London-raised emcee uses a spoken-word delivery, and accompanied by the dark and beautiful video makes a 4 minute story and movie worth watching.
Ravyn Lenae – Blossom Dearie
Once again we venture out of the confines of rap to bring you a new release from the 16-year-old Ravyn Lenae. With a poise, sound and talent far beyond her years, Ravyn chirps her sweet melodies atop Monte Booker production in “Blossom Dearie”.
A strong follow up to her first ever release, it seems that Lenae is on the fast track to break from the Chicago bubble and take things to a new level.
Daye Jack – Easy (Live)
Although not the official music video, Daye Jack dropped a one-take accompaniment to his stand out hit “Easy” via Kinda Neat. He displays the true artistic ability he possesses and uses his rapping as a tool to highlight the catchy and full choruses.
Billy Chambers – Followers (ft. Solomonilla)
Hometown favorite Billy Chambers has returned with yet another bouncy track assisted by Solomonilla. Billy continues on his roll of exciting new music and pushes the boundaries of each genre he dabbles in.
With every song it seems there is a new development in artistry, and still a young kid Billy has plenty of time to continue honing his craft.

Frank Leone – River Beat
Currently residing in Chicago, Frank Leone is wise beyond his years. He conveys that wisdom along with a newly developed knack for singing in his latest release “River Beat”. The song is meant to tide us over until visuals from Frank’s latest project Enter Wild are ready for the world. At the rate that I’m playing this song on repeat, I’m not sure if it will be enough to keep me from wanting more.
Love at First Sound – Songs Written About Girls
Sometimes it’s best to simply play right in to the cliches that everyone can relate to. Love At First Sound knows this and crafted just another “Song Written About Girls”. What might appear as surface level at first listen, quickly reveals itself as a personal ballad about some of the women in everyday life as well as in Love At First Sound’s past. Monotone and melodic, this one is undoubtedly worth the listen.
Witty Rock – Benzo
Hailing from Baltimore, Witty Rock released a chilling new video for his song “Benzo”. The drugged-out rap hints at something deeper, and begs a second listen. Enjoy the visuals which are self-/edited by Witty himself.
Nicx – Indo
Nicx is a talented young gun from Atlanta who manages to fill every pocket every track with intrinsic and meaningful rhymes. While “Indo” doesn’t dive quite as deeply in to his story-telling as usual, it gives listeners a good sense of balance coming off of his aggressive “Merk” Remix.
