Electro-House | Don Diablo feat. Alex Clare & Kelis – Give It All (Don Diablo & CID Remix)
Posted by Middy on June 12, 2013
The latest from Nicky Romero’s Protocol Recordings, Dutch producer Don Diablo tabs rising pop singers, Alex Clare and Kelis to lay down some great vocals alongside his bouncy, booming instrumental, with CID helping on the rework. Are the vocals a little cheesy, yes, but they are really catchy and will get stuck in your head. After a decade-long career plugging away in relative unknown of the worldwide audience, Don Diablo is making his presence not only with this track, but also his upcoming single on Axtone “Starlight (You Could Be Mine)”. There is a trap VIP mix of this track set for release some time soon on Sony.

Dubstep | Sadhu – Say What (Addergebroed 2013 VIP Remix)
Posted by Sev on May 7, 2013
Addergebroed is an artist not many people have heard of. He has a pretty unique style when it comes to constructing tunes and his sounds. He had a remix done for Sadhu’s ‘Say What’ tune a few months back, but it was just all over the place. However this VIP absolutely blew my mind after the first listen. It has a weird rhythm to it that just latches in your mind forcing you to play it on repeat all day.

Electro-House, Review | Knife Party – Haunted House EP
Posted by Mach on May 6, 2013
A lot of people have been highly anticipating the next Knife Party release. Knife Party had stated that their “Haunted House Tour” was not related to an EP, but as you can see that’s not the case. I do like this EP, but it is further proof of how lazy the duo is when it comes to producing. My take on this EP is positive and negative, just to warn those of you who will take offense or disagreement to my opinions of each track.
“Power Glove” is a fun, hard hitting Electro-House track that I am sure is a blast in a live setting, but half the time I feel like I am listening to another VIP of “Internet Friends”. “LRAD” isn’t my style of House, I know it is a lot of fun in a big room with a good sound system, but I can’t get over how repetitious this style is. I like to be kept interested in a song, this just sounds like a track meant to please the tasteless festival attendees who are on countless drugs anyways. Speaking of an “Internet Friends VIP”, I am a bit disappointed that Knife Party included the actually VIP in this EP. I will not lie that I have been dying to get my hands on it, but seeing as “Power Glove” already sounds a bit like the original in the drop, I can’t help but think they could have picked a better original to include instead. Finally we get to the only track on the EP that actually sounds like a lot of effort and time was put into its creation. “EDM Death Machine” starts out with a kicking beat and light use in samples, it sounds like they learned from over sampling in “Internet Friends”. I love the progression Knife Party uses, my first listen was exciting, they managed to keep me on my toes the entire way through.
To those of you who are thinking “What are you talking about? This EP is amazing!” I do think it is good, amazing is a little far considering how less creative this EP feels as a whole. I would however recommend this to everyone. Knife Party has always made it their job to help you rage, even if they appear to be extremely lazy at times.

Dubstep | Nostalgia – The Hero VIP
Posted by Sev on May 1, 2013
Nostalgia might not be one of the most well known artist, but man does he know how to write some sick tunes. ‘The Hero’ was the first tune I heard from him, taking the Zelda theme and giving it his own heavy spin. Now releasing the VIP, he showcases just how much his production has grown as an artist. Listening to the original, then this VIP we clearly get to see the progress dubstep has made. In the original he showcases that old school one wobble/Nero sort of drop, but in this VIP he goes all out with a new crazy synth and melody. The kick and snare in this VIP have a much more punchy transient as well compared to the original, which helps add a more thunderous impact.

Dubstep | R Rated #65
Posted by Sev on March 7, 2013
First up on R-rated this week is a heavy remix the fans have been waiting for from Getter. After coming through with a great EP release he decided it was time to release this remix of 50 Carrots – Wiz Kid. The track starts off with a chiptune vibe and some Wiz Khalifa vocal samples slowly working its way into Getter’s riddim-esque drop.
Mantis just released a monstrous EP on Play Me Records, and thought why not give away a free VIP while we are at it. So they took one of their older tracks and revamped it to a more heavy hitting beast than it already was. Everyone loves a good free VIP download after an EP release, am I right?
We might have posted this track from Rekoil a while back when he first released, but he decided that the mastering and mixing just wasn’t close to the level he wanted. So he went through and revamped the whole thing also adding a few new things here and there.
Last, but not least is a banger from the one and only, Figure. When have you known Figure to let you down and not come through with a beastly track. This one is a heavy one over some Aesop vocals which add a nice twist to the usual doom styled tracks Figure releases.
Events | EDC New York Venue & Dates Announced
Posted by Middy on January 31, 2013
On the road to Insomniac’s flagship event, EDC Las Vegas, Electric Daisy Carnival will return to New York for its second year, but this time with a change of scenery. EDC New York will move from Metlife Stadium at the Meadowlands to Citi Field, where people suffer through Mets games. It will take place Friday May 17 and Saturday May 18th, a departure from the 3 day format from last year and what is usually seen with EDC. Not sure why there was the change, but it is pretty disappointing seeing as Friday will probably start late and both dates will almost surely end at 11pm, so you really only have 1.5 days. Insomniac knows what it is doing, but the parking lot at Citi Field is not as big as it is at Metlife Stadium, so it will be interesting to see the layout of the stages. Tickets go on sale February 8th at 12pm EST and will be $159 for GA two day passes and $299 VIP two day passes. More info at the EDC website.
Moombahton | Craze – Selekta! (VIP)

World famous, DJ Craze decided to jump in on the Christmas spirit and give away his VIP of his release, “Selekta!” I am not one to be bumping out to Moombahton, but this track really hits my funky bone. Yes, I mean funky.
