Progressive House | Steve Angello & Third Party – Lights
Posted by Middy on October 26, 2012
As seen on “Until Now“, Steve Angello’s new track with fellow Size label mates Third Party, “Lights” sees its full release. The track has been heavily supported by Pete Tong and others with its soaring melodies and explosive entrance to a drop of powerful synths and alternative bass lines. Steve Angello with this track and “Yeah” is giving us a glimpse of what we will see from him post SHM, which is quite a departure from Steve Angello pre-SHM and that may be good or bad depending on your tastes in dance music.
Electro-House | Steve Angello – Yeah (2011 Version)
Posted by Middy on October 25, 2012
After releasing the newer version of “Yeah” that he felt was better for his sets earlier this month, Steve Angello makes good on his promise and gives away the 2011 version of “Yeah” for free. Size Records released a shorter version of the track yesterday and earlier today the full version was released. The song gives us the signature guitar riffs that became synonymous with this track and the “Yeah” chants that would control a crowd. Progressive House | Steve Angello – Yeah
Posted by Middy on October 5, 2012
I have mixed feelings about this track. “Yeah”, as many of you probably know has been in the works for a long time and has been a staple of Steve Angello sets for a couple years now. This version fits in with the current festival climate with its progressive melodies, however the original (as seen above) had a certain raw power to it with the commanding guitar chords and was stood alone in its unique qualities. In sets, you may not have known the track, but you knew when to yell “Yeah” and you knew those powerful guitar chords. It was intuitive and just came natuarally. It was like a rallying cry. The new version is not bad, it is rather quite good, but it does not capture the spirit and power of the original. Fret not, there is good news on this front. When you buy “Yeah”, 50 cents will be donated to the Size Foundation and you will receive a free copy of the 2011 version at some future date.
Albums, Progressive House | AN21 & Max Vangeli – People Of The Night (Album Review)
Posted by Middy on September 10, 2012
AN21 & Max Vangeli released their long awaited artist album “People Of The Night” this week after months of delays and teasers of tracks on the album to some mixed reviews. AN21 & Max Vangeli themselves have put out some very successful singles and blossomed into world renowned DJs in their own right, but the next step of an artist album was something they still had to accomplish. This album takes steps, but does not take the leap that we had hoped for from these two talented DJs. The listener is finishes the album not totally satisfied and left wanting a bit more. We have to wonder what were some of the other tracks that did not make the cut for the album and maybe the selection was not the best.
That is not to say that this is a bad artist album by any stretch of the imagination. The first time through you may feel that their were only a few tracks that stuck out to you and the rest were generic fillers. While there are a few tracks that do sound a bit generic, on further examination of this album, you begin to like this 15 track album a bit more. Read on to dive in to the rest of the album.
Electro-House | will.i.am ft. Eva Simons – This Is Love (Afrojack Remix)
Posted by Middy on August 7, 2012
The Steve Angello produced single “This is Love” from will.i.am and Eva Simons was bound to have to have some heavy hitters come to the rescue and elevate it to its full potential. The original was a pop song through and through and served its purpose as a radio friendly song, but that is not Steve Angello’s calling card. Afrojack brings his heavy dutch / electro style to the track, mixing flawlessly high pitched dutch bleeps and grungy electro stabs. Coming off of hit track “Rock The House“, Afrojack is showing that despite unleashing the monster that is Paris Hilton onto the dance music world, his legacy will remain unblemished due to his prolific output of great productions. Also check out the James Egbert remix that takes a more complextro spin with big room interludes.

Events, Review | Global Dance Festival Colorado Recap
Posted by CHAZZZ on July 28, 2012
*Guest post from the FreshNewTracks’ Intern Zoe
One week ago marked the 10th anniversary of Triad Dragon’s Global Dance Festival. First known as Rave on the Rocks, Global Dance Fest started in 1999 at the legendary Red Rocks amphitheater featuring The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim for a mere $20 ticket. Since its early days, Global has been well known for showcasing up and coming artists on the brink of chart-topping popularity. As the festival has grown, pioneers of electronic music such as Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Tiësto, and Deadmau5 have helped give Global the reputation it has today.
This year’s lineup was no let down for the big celebration. Headliners including Steve Angello, Above & Beyond, Wolfgang Gartner, Excision and Zed’s Dead kept the festival alive from start to finish. On Friday, Hardwell, Knife Party, and Steve Angello tore up the main stage with nonstop crowd pleasers and confetti cannons while Krewella, 3LAU and Felix Cartal started fist pumping and shuffling riots at the Global Bass Stage.
Things escalated even more when Manufactured Superstars sent hundreds of inflatable astronauts into the audience and Above & Beyond led an hour and a half long session of group therapy. Wolfgang Gartner. However, remains the most memorable, taking the crowd on a derpgang roller coaster with tracks ranging from “Flexxx” to Notorious BIG’s “Hypnotize.”
