NYC via FLA emcee Vulkan The Krusader has been locked away in his studio hard at work for the past year. The spoils are set to drop on Feb 14th, Valentines day in the form of VX13, featuring a 13 original joints that range from future boom bap to dream-wave chill, with collabs from Sean Price, Kyle Rapps and Spaceman and more.

Vulkan tells me that “Echo Chamber” was written from the perspective of a love struck homicidal maniac whom he read about in a newspaper article. Ranging from purposefully slightly off key vocals to his on-point, punchy delivery, this track serves as nice cross-section of his talents, but there is so much more, stay tuned.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Accent — Just For Tonight (feat. Jitta On The Track) [Lyric Video]

Posted by on December 15, 2013

We’re all a part of a moment in hip-hop history during which artists who self-identify as “rappers” range drastically in regards to how they define that role, the kind of music they create and label as “hip-hop”, the kind of technical skill they possess. The aesthetic sound of rapping has become a ubiquitous part of pop radio, and with this change most of the rappers who strive for mainstream attention work harder to try to fit the mold of simplicity that generally regulates what becomes a hit or doesn’t. Within such a concentrated industry, there are limited outlets for the fan both of technically skilled rappers and melodicism; rappers who can really spit, but also who’ll experiment with club-ready production (hence the rapid success of artists who occasionally fit this mold: Kendrick, Macklemore, etc.). Tonight we bring you a record striving to do just this—simultaneously satisfy the tastes of both those who love the kind of melodic, synth-heavy trap beats that Judge (who—if you’re a Mike Stud fan—you’ve likely heard the work of on multiple occasions) so expertly crafts, and also appease those who listen to hip-hop for the advanced lyricism; the kind of alliteration, wordplay, and rhyme schemes that have become synonymous with Accent’s work. This is the kind of song that you can enjoy for whatever it is that makes your head bang, though I certainly hope you’re the kind of people who listen to lyrics. Accent’s new mixtape, The Last Lyricist, drops this winter.

Danzfolk - The Other Side EPCanadian house duo, Danzfolk are fresh faces to the scene, but they have the makeup to become the progressive stars from Canada. The duo just released a 4-track EP “The Other Side” for free that shows the wide range of styles they can put together in one body of work. The EP combines big progressive melodies, blaring horns, and even a funky, disco track “Bring It Back“, to finish out the EP on a nostalgic note.

The EP contains 5 songs that range from chill R&B/Hip-Hop beats, to extremely chill ambient jams. His music is soulful and puts out all around feel good vibes. The project showcases his production strength and range, as well as being an entertaining listen. Fans of Grimblee, MiMoSA or the like should eat this up, but I highly recommend that regardless of your musical taste you at least give the 10 minute sampler of the EP (below) a listen.

Adrian Lux Webster Hall 2

Prinz Adrian Johannes Hynne aka Adrian Lux has had a long, winding road to where he is now, rising to his well-respected status in dance music. First getting into music around the age of 16, he started as a hip hop DJ before moving into the more underground realms of dance music that were popular at the time in his native Stockholm. He eventually found his sound, becoming heavily influenced by indie pop and a wide range electronic artists in Sweden from Andrew Beyer, to Axwell, to Eric Prydz.

We had the chance to talk about his tour and his show last Saturday, his early DJ life, moving to America and what he is in store for the future. Having just released his debut album last spring, and another on the way soon, it will be very exciting to see everything he has in store for us.
