Hip-Hop | Asher Roth – Pop Radio x Pearly Gates
Posted by admin on June 24, 2013
Asher Roth is back to offer up some new knowledge, first for his original single “Pop Radio”, followed by a freestyle over Mobb Deep’s legendary “Pearly Gates”. The former of the two is classic Asher, packed with assonance and witty rhymes that lighten up the more serious message within the song.
In “Pearly Gates”, Roth discusses his struggles within the industry thus far.
“Rick Ross can be a cop, Drake ‘started from the bottom’? No offense, I don’t wanna start a problem but come on, all I ever did was tell you I was a champ at beer pong.”
There is no doubt that Asher has to battle everyday with the image that his hit college music shows him in, however, as soon as people start opening their ears to how much substance is really behind each line, it will only be a matter of time before Ash takes off.
Be sure to download Asher’s new mixtape The Greenhouse Effect Vol. 2, out tomorrow!
Electro-House | Dada Life – Boing Clash Boom (Remixes)
Posted by Middy on June 5, 2013
Dada Life‘s album “The Rules Of Dada” has already seen remixes from the likes of Tiesto and Dillon Francis, and now can add the Bingo Players, Major Lazer and Pierce Fulton to the list. While the two bigger names are somewhat expected and add their own unique character to the track, Pierce Fulton should be no surprise, since he recently was a performer at the Dada Life compound in San Francisco a few weeks ago. It is cool to see Pierce getting picked up for such high profile remixes, he deserves it.
The remixes are all quite different and each brings something unique from each other and from the original. Major Lazer go for a slower trapped out stylistic change, while Pierce adds his own chunky bass line in place of the traditional Dada Life electro drop, and the Bingo Players add a jarring acid fueled drop that takes a little while to get used to, but really works in the context of the song. If you are in NYC this weekend, Pierce is turning 21 on Saturday, so come to Lavo and get weird with him as Pierce has his first drink ever and potentially shotguns a beer with you after the show. Events | Ultra Music Festival 2013 — Weekend 2 Recap (Or, If I Never Hear “Clarity” Again, It Will Be Too Soon)

“You know, the mainstage doesn’t look that awesome this year. In fact, it kind of looks smaller than it did last year.”
I was sitting on a friend’s couch drinking a lukewarm Bud Light and watching Nicky Romero’s Weekend 1 set on a Macbook. We didn’t have the good speakers plugged in because someone was napping upstairs, so the sound was tinny and easy to talk over. The TV mounted to the wall was tuned to NCAA basketball with the volume off. It was early on Friday evening and I was in the process of getting over bronchitis. A bag of Doritos was making the rounds.
“Shit guys. This stage is bullshit.” I grabbed a fistful of Doritos and gestured at the computer. “Look at it. It’s just sitting there, being purple. God, the mainstage is going to effing suck this year.” My friends nodded sagely. I leaned back, satisfied that my point had hit home, and turned my attention to the basketball game.
Of all the things I’ve been wrong about in my life, this has got to be top three.
