FYI | Will.I.Am ft. Chris Brown “Let’s Go” Steals Mat Zo & Arty’s Rebound

Posted by on April 16, 2013

I was seriously debating on giving this song any pub at all because it deserves to be relegated to bottom of the music totem pole without anybody noticing. But that is the problem, nobody notices and nobody cares that such a great song from two of the best up and coming producers was so wantonly stolen by will.I.am and his band of merry writers. But why this one, Pitbull “samples” songs all the time, Flo Rida the same, it is really nothing new in this climate of heavy sampling in modern pop music. But, when big money is tossed around to shut people up and the threat of big label lawyers coming down on a “small time” artist like Arty or Mat Zo, they are almost surely going to settle on this, instead of facing the reality of going after Interscope and all of their legal might.

Anjunabeats DID NOT clear the sample so there is a case against will if they want to fight him. Maybe it was another producer who snuck this one in there, but I really don’t see how a large sample like this could have snuck by everyone at such a large label on a release as big as this. They either felt they could get away with this, or thought they could bully Mat Zo and Arty out of their own music. It remains to be seen if that will happen, but as the day continues, it seems as though a fight is brewing and there may be some high powered lawyers joining the side of Arty & Mat Zo. I can see exactly why Mat Zo deleted his twitter account yesterday because would have gone apesh*t on will.i.am. Stream both tracks to hear the obvious theft and then after the jump hear ANOTHER theft of Sandro Silva & Quintino’s “Epic”, which is sadly kind of old news by now because it has been done so many times.

Events | EDC New York Lineup Phase 1

After releasing the trailer yesterday, Insomniac has finally shed light on some of the artists who will be gracing the stages here in New York on May 17th & 18th. Some may be wondering why there are so few compared to other festival announcements — remember it was shortened to two days, so 1/3 less DJs required. Some of the notable names on the list include Carl Cox, Steve Angello, Dirty South, Arty, Porter Robinson, Eric Prydz, Nicky Romero, Dash Berlin and Cosmic Gate. The lineup also sets itself up for at least 4 artist lead stages, Carl Cox & Friends, Steve Angello’s Size Matters with Thomas Gold, AN21 & Max Vengeli already on the bill, a trance stage of some sort, possibly led by Cosmic Gate if Armin does not show up in the second wave of artists, and another repeat of last year with Afrojack’s Jacked Stage with Quintino, Bassjackers and R3hab all on the bill. The lineup is very promising and seems to have plenty for all tastes. It will be interesting to see what comes out of the second wave of artists and judgment should be withheld until then. Get your tickets here.

Progressive House | Ferry Corsten – Rock Your Body Rock (Arty / Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike Remixes)

In celebration of its 100th release, Ferry Corsten’s Flashover Recordings has tagged hot and in-demand producers to remix his 2003 classic “Rock Your Body Rock” – fittingly on the track’s 10 year anniversary. Arty brings back his “Rock N Rolla” styled remix, with the kind of vibes he put to use on his remix of Ferry Corsten’s “Punk” to great effect (and which was a launching point for his career). This remix features the similar hard snares and kicks as “Punk,” adding Arty’s own flavor to the track and carrying the timeless sound of the original to now. The “MainStage” mix from Belgian duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike has been the version that Ferry himself has played most lately, giving the track a modern day festival energy thanks to a tantalizing build and a hard-driving minimal drop that totally flips the script on the original. They both take very different approaches and have their own unique strengths, so take a listen and decide for yourself.

Electro, Trance | Ummet Ozcan – Here & Now

Posted by on March 25, 2013

You could not go an hour without hearing his collab with W&W “The Code” on the various stages at Ultra across the two weekends and with his previous single “The Box”, still meandering its way into sets, it is fair to say Ummet Ozcan is here to stay. “Here & Now” represents the harder, more in your face sound we have heard in his hits lately but still remains true to his trance roots with bombastic synths, a driving bass line, distorted key play and soothing progressive trance interludes. “Here & Now” is already picking up support from the likes of Porter Robinson, W&W, Arty, Sander van Doorn and many more, so do not miss this one.

Progressive House | Arty – Together We Are (Remixes)

With the original mix finally getting its release last month, Arty tabs some some hot in demand up and comers to remix his colossal single. Audien switches up the reverbed piano for a more synth laden approach, not straying too much from the melodic structure of the original and adding his own spin on the track. Norwegians, Carl Louis & Martin Danielle continue to display their strong progressive talents with this remix, adding their own synth line to the track, making it their own. Coming off of their epic 6 track “Metropolis Pt. II” EP, The M Machine provide a very different style of remix that you can only expect from them with a jarring low end, while still remaining true to the melody of the original.

For you purists out there, the instrumental mix is also included in this batch of remixes. Coming up next for Arty is the release of “Grand Final” on Ministry of Sound this April or May and also hopefully sometime soon the original mix of “When I See You” because Alesso butchered that track.

It is that time again and you need these mixes to push through the weekend and to get you through spring break. We start off with Avicii’s much talked about Diplo & Friends mix that is more funk and old school than what you would expect from the Swedish superstar. In celebration of Anjunabeats Volume 10, The Drop has put together an all Anjunabeats episode with tracks old and new in the mix. Listen at 3pm on Tiesto Club Life’s channel on Siruis XM for their entry in the College Invasion radio contest. Next up we have the March edition of Hysteria Radio from the Bingo players that includes an exclusive first play of the Dada Life remix of “Out Of My Mind”. Forging on we have a mix from Cazzette for Liquified Radio and Magnetic Festival that includes a host of their own tracks from their recent three part “Eject” album. After the jump are more mixes from Walden, Avicii, Arty and Armin.

Progressive House | Arty feat. Chris James – Together We Are

Arty just doesn’t make bad songs. It has taken him over a year to finish this song since he first premiered it two New Years Eve’s ago on Pier 94 in NYC and hearing the final product makes it worth the wait. Arty is already on off to an outstanding start to the year with his collab with Armin “Nehalennia” having staying power atop the Beatport trance charts and now with probably his most sought after ID being released, Arty is quickly making his way into the dance music elite. “Together We Are” combines everything you want from Arty and more — a subtly complex bass line, heavily reverbed piano creating a sublime melody, ethereal strings, atmospheric pads and vocals from Chris James that fit the song like a glove. Look for more from Arty soon with a remix package for “Together We Are” in March with the instrumental mix, his single “Believe In Me” coming on Anjunabeats Volume 10 and he hinted at the release of “Grand Final” in April or May during his Mixify Set.
