Hip-Hop | Spencer Joles – Long Nights
Posted by mimada on April 17, 2014
I’ve got this sort of, hip-hop-fairy-godfather type of best friend that drops in every now and then to enlighten me with only the best underground hip hop on the rise. For the past few years, he’s been the one to introduce me to everyone from Afu-Ra to G-Eazy, Blue Scholars to Logic, Black Element to even Aloe Blacc. Need I continue? So recently when he told me one of his own cousin’s picked up producing, I knew it had to be good. Everyone, meet Milwaukee’s own, Spencer Joles. “Long Nights” is a v trill track to get lost in, with mellow vibes and steady rhymes throughout. I’ve also included his newest release, “Cosmic Dialect,” which demonstrates this guy’s commitment to steady releases as well as testing out all different production styles. This young rapper already has a pretty stacked selection of * free * original work and covers on his Soundcloud so take a minute to dive in and check it out.
Trap | Aloe Blacc – The Man (Clinton Sparks Remix)
Posted by BIGLIFE on March 20, 2014
Clinton Sparks has been quietly lately, but that doesn’t mean he’s not working hard. He’s been busy touring and prepping his forthcoming “Disco Ball & Chain” EP that’s rumored to have names on it like Snoop Dogg, 2-Chainz, T-Pain. Releasing on Island Def Jam / Photo Finish, “Disco Ball & Chain” is a project we can’t wait to hear. This afternoon, Clinton put his trap spin on Aloe Blacc’s The Man” to tide fans over until the big drop date. And yes, that’ s a young Clinton Sparks in his gentleman’s jacket looking like he’s about to deliver the news. As always, GET FAMILIAR!

In 2013 West-coast hip hop label, Dirty Science gained instant notoriety as one of the the genres premier labels when they birthed Denmark Vessey & Scud One’s album Cult Classic. Now in 2014 Dirty Science continues this habit of dropping dope full lengths by blessing us with the album E&J, by rapper Johaz and hyper-prolific producer Exile, who together form the group Dag Savage. For those that are familiar with Exile’s prowess on the MPC, you already know to expect, soul-laden, head-nodding beats that will leave you feeling like Sunday morning. For those that are just getting up on this music then Blu, Fashawn and Aloe Blacc will help serve you up a great introduction.

I might be late to the party with this one, but if you haven’t heard this record “The Man” by Aloe Blacc I strongly suggest you press play below. I heard this track a few days back on the Beats by Dre commercial, and it’s been on repeat ever since. If you’re looking for a pick me up, and some inspirational music from the man who brought you “Wake Me Up” with Avicii, “The Man” is that track for you, and you can tell everybody! You’re the man, (or the woman)! This is a must listen!

Albums | Avicii to Release Debut Album TRUE September 17th
Posted by Middy on June 21, 2013
You thought it might never happen, but barring no setbacks or delays, Avicii’s debut album #TRUE will be released on September 17th through PRMD Music and Island Records. The Swedish megastar shocked the world at Ultra Music Festival this past spring when he played many of the selections on the album live that had a very different direction than what people were used to hearing from Avicii. But it appears he is tired of just being associated with “Levels” and wants to go in a different direction and show his diversity as an artist.
Disruption is good when a scene is half stuck
His new single “Wake Me Up” with Aloe Blacc has hit stores in Europe and will go on sale and the radio in the States June 25th. I am really looking forward to hearing the finished product and the new direction he is taking with his sound with the whole host of collaborators he has on the album. The most interesting thing may be the fan reaction, which thus far has been very luke warm, but I think many will come around September 17th. The one downside is that the hashtag in the album name is a tad cheesy.
Update: There will be no hashtag in the name album title. Good call Avicii.
