DJ-Set, Electro-House | Nicky Romero – Toulouse (Remixes)
Posted by Middy on March 28, 2012
What better way to start the first hour of the first day of Ultra than to have a set from Nicky Romero and to have him premier his new ID, which will be his first song on his label. The track is heavy so be ready.
Here are the the remixes for Nicky Romero’s massive hit “Toulouse”, a city that has been in the news lately for all the wrong reasons. The good people here are tough and will come out stronger than ever. We look forward to his show on the 5th. The Tommy Trash remix keeps much of the original track with the build remaining largely the same and then in the drop Tommy Trash adds his own flavor, stripping away the driving synths and adding his own percussive elements to it, perfect for the festival environment. Chocolate Puma keeps much of the original song as well because it was so good, but makes the build a little softer with some additional percussive elements and an added kick and a shaker sound to the drop. The original is a classic, but these two are still quite good, with Tommy Trash doing the best work on this massive track. His collaboration with David Guetta “Metropolis” will be released on Monday, April 2nd. After the jump is a superb half hour mix Nicky Romero made for Sirius XM during his time down in Miami during WMC with unreleased tracks “Nicktim” and the aforementioned “Metropolis”.

DJ-Set, Events, Progressive House | Avicii LE7ELS # 006 + US Tour
Posted by Middy on March 27, 2012
Avicii has released the 6th episode of what was supposed to be his monthly “LE7ELS” podcast today after spending the last 3 months feverishly touring. He commences the podcast with his own half hour of handpicked tracks, starting with his highly anticipated collaboration with Nicky Romero “Nicktim” and then moving through tracks such as “Troll”, “Calling (Lose My Mind) and Eric Prydz sublime remix of Midnight City. For the throwback track for the podcast he chooses the classic Axwell track “Feel The Vibe” with its funky bass line and groovy melody. Avicii & his manager Ash talk about various things ranging from their House For Hunger Tour to his upcoming tour dates including his live tour he will be premiering at Coachella and using all summer. Sebastian Ingrosso takes over for the second half hour with hits from SHM such as “Antidote” & “Greyhound”, as well as playing Michael Brun’s widely supported progressive bomb “Rise” and his upcoming collaboration with Alesso & Steve Angelo “Ecplise (Why Am I Doing This?). Overall a very solid mix with a good balance of electro and progressive house and not surprisingly a strong presence of Swedish producers. Tracklist after the jump.
Also if you have not already, get tickets for Avicii’s arena tour this summer where he will be doing a live show that Avicii has been hyping a lot. More info including dates HERE.
DJ-Set, Electro-House | Dyro & Jacob van Hage – EMP
Posted by Middy on March 26, 2012
Dyro has been on fire this year with release after release. While I think he may be over releasing a little and not taking the time to settle in on each release, there is no denying the talent in this young dutch DJ. He teams up with another Dutchman, Jacob van Hage, to create this massive track that may knock your lights out. This song starts with a big room synth laden intro with a steady clap that leads into massive drop with a pounding bass line, some growling and Daft punkespque synth and climaxes with high energy pitched synths. This track has a ton of energy and is the perfect get me up after a tough weekend.

Also including is an hour long mix from Sato Goldschlag with over 40 bootlegs and mashups consisting of some pop vocals and EDM instrumentals with well done transitions and great song choice. I am sure some of you saw Laidback Luke premiering his massive remix of Sato Goldschlag’s “Mr Mister” at UMF and it will be a must have on release day. Tracklist after the jump.
DJ-Set, Progressive House | NO_ID & Martin Volt – Zelda (Incl. Hardwell Edit)
Posted by Middy on March 26, 2012
As we wait for Hardwell & Dannic – Kontiki, Revealed Records has released these two tracks from NO_ID & Martin Volt with an edit from Hardwell to hold us over until then. The original is the more progressive of the two with a strong distorted bass line with a rising synth melody over the moving bass line in the break. Harwell’s edit is actually an edit, unlike the trend of tracks recently where the big name artist does very little and adds his name to it. He takes the song and strips it down to make it much more of a festival track, putting much greater emphasis on the bass line. He keeps the rising synth melody for part of the break but then drops it for his own signiature big room sound that takes this track to a whole new level.

DJ-Set, Electro-House, Progressive House | Walden
Posted by Middy on March 25, 2012
The 18 year old Australian Dj / producer, who many of you may know for his song “Brightness” that was supported by Tiesto and Pete Tong among other heavyweights, is back with some fire originals and upcoming tracks to get your ears wet. The first song “At Last” in the free two song EP is some fire progressive house using an acoustic guitar melody to create the build that crescendos into a break of driving synths and bass with a moving synth melody. “Mono World” is a bit heavier, going instead with some harder electro synths. The song has a hard steady bass line with the drop developing with some rising synths and a second drop that combines all of the elements of the track.

Also included is a preview for his remix of Marina & The Diamonds – Primadonna, which is going to be huge when it gets its final release. Above in the video is his remix for Michael S – Broke, which takes a poppy track and adds a progressive house touch to it, making it very club ready. Get it on Beatport or iTunes. After the jump you will find his March episode of “Brightness Sessions”, which includes some of the best progressive house songs out now as well as some unreleased originals from Walden.

DJ-Set, Electro-House, Progressive House | Alesso Essential Mix
Posted by Middy on March 24, 2012
Lost in all of the WMC and UMF madness was the fact that Alesso was featured on BBC Radio One’s legendary Essential Mix show. Alesso really makes the most of these 2 hours flawlessly transitioning from one song to the next making the 2 hours fly by. You will hear the best of from the past couple months including “Trio“, “In My Mind” and “Rise“, as well as the best songs he has put out in his career. He puts together some really good bootlegs, combining the old and the new. He plays a whole host of unreleased tracks from himself and others including Avicii – Silhouettes (could it be a sign of a release at some point this year?) and the electro bomb “Boss” from Jonas Torn on Le7els. He plays his collaboration with Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso “Eclipse (Why Am I Doing This)“, the radio world premier of the vocal mix of his upcoming single “Years”, Alesso’s remix of Keane – Silence By the Night that he has been raving about and a brand new ID from Alesso that is really something special (as seen above, ignore the “ID3” title, it is just an ID). This Essential Mix rivals Arty’s for early contenders as Essential Mixes of the year, so hit play and let Alesso take on a two hour EDM journey. Tracklist after the jump.

DJ-Set, Trance | Paul van Dyk ft. Arty – The Ocean
Posted by Middy on March 23, 2012
Now this is just one of those trance combinations that you dream about. Arty is back to work with the legend Paul van Dyk on his studio album “Evolution”, delayed once more and now set to be released April 6th. This is the trance we used to get from Arty and what you expect from Paul van Dyk with some amazing female vocals to top it all off. This shows that Arty still has it in the realm of trance and whatever track he touches will be pure genius. This Paul van Dyk album is shaping up to be very interesting conglomerate of tracks with the progressive anthem “Verano“, “Eternity” a poppier track and now this trance masterpiece. Should be interesting to see how the rest of it all turns out. Also check out this interview with Paul van Dyk where he talks about the album including a drum and bass collaboration with arty?, his radio show and tears top 40 music a new one in the most calm and measured fashion. After the jump check out Mat Zo’s set from Group Therapy in Miami last night.
