One of our 13 artists to watch in 2013, Mikkas delivers on that promise with his single “Finally” alongside hot in demand vocalist Amba Shepherd. Fresh off of sitting atop the Beatport trance charts for 40 days for his Emma Hewitt “Rewind” remix and Amba Shepherd enjoying similar Beatport number one success with “Apollo“, two duo bring bring “Finally” to Strictly Rhythm for a track that is bound to be a surefire success. Already seeing support from the likes of Dash Berlin, Porter Robinson, Nicky Romero and W&W, “Finally” blends electro house & trance in this hard hitting, melodic trance tune that blends Amba Shepherd’s stunning vocals with grinding saws, deft key work and well placed electro stabs. Also included is a remix from Botnek that turns this one more into an electro house track.

Another selection from Anjunabeats vol 10 (hope to see you guys at the launch party), Ukranian duo Nikita Bogdanov and Vadym Porotkov, better known as Ost & Meyer make their return to Above & Beyond’s powerhouse Anjunabeats label. “Here We Go” combines entrancing piano melodies, atmospheric pads and an upbeat bass line that at 128 bpm helps bridge the gap between progressive & trance. Anjunabeats continues to deliver quality tracks and with “Wayfarer” hitting Beatport trance number one, look for that trend to only continue.

Trance | Audien – Wayfarer

Posted by on January 14, 2013

With his second full Anjunabeats release (inspired by the sunglasses of the same name), Audien proves that he is without question someone to keep an eye on in 2013. “Wayfarer” premiered on the first episode of Above & Beyond Group Therapy — when Jono, Paavo and Tony dropped it live in Bangalore — and it’s easy to see why they chose it as their opening song. Bright gated synths and a groovy hook make this an indisputable feel-good jam, along the lines of what we’d expect to see from Arty or Sunny Lax. Audien may be a newcomer to the scene but I am definitely already loving his sound.

Preview, Trance | Ferry Corsten – Kudawudashuda [Preview]

Posted by on January 10, 2013

Ferry Corsten returns to his roots in his latest track — a play on “Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda” — which premiered to much fanfare on the New Year’s edition of Corsten’s Countdown. This is solid gold non-vocal trance that features a mesmerizing hook, heavy kicks, and incredible builds; aside from the retrofits of older tracks he’s been working up with Markus Schulz, “Kudawudashuda” is easily one of the best things I’ve heard from Ferry lately. It’s the kind of track that gets dropped at 4:30 a.m. when the club is still packed but things are starting to get weird and you’re moving without thinking and are utterly in the zone.

On a more general note, Ferry is one of the heaviest hitters in the game and a true master of the genre, and I am hopeful that this is an indication of the kind of trance we can expect to see in 2013 (I’m likewise encouraged by Armin’s “Who’s Afraid of 138?” campaign). No word yet on an official release date yet but look it for it to drop soon on Flashover Recordings.
